Honestly, ear plugs are going to be your best (and cheapest) solution. You can get 200 pairs for $20.

These ones will block out practically all sound. For me the problem is that they are a bit uncomfortable and they also block out audible alarm clocks.

These are the ones that I settled on. They are perfect because they are low density, so I can't feel them at all when I am wearing them. They block out 90% of noises, but still let my audible alarm clock through.

When I use the first earplugs I linked, I use this alarm clock that vibrates the bed, that way I don't have to worry about hearing the alarm. It also works wonders.

(Note: If you think you can't sleep with earplugs in, please try the green ones. I need everything to be very specific/comfortable or I can't fall asleep, and I don't notice that I'm wearing the green ones at all.)

I use them multiple times unless I drop them on the ground or something. They do a really good job when you get them in right! Read the instructions that come with them and you'll have no problems.

Absolutely love these for track and street, you can reuse them alot and are so cheap you don't mind losing them. I think I reused a pair for a month or two once. They hold up well and don't bother your ears.

I buy Howard Leight disposable earplugs for about $20 for a box of 200 pairs. I replace them every few days, maybe as long as a week. There's no reason to keep using a single pair for 3 weeks when they are so cheap.

I have worn earplugs every night for at least 10 years without issue.

After much trial and error, the very best plugs you can use for long periods are the Howard Leight LPF-1 (http://www.amazon.com/Howard-Leight-LPF-1-Uncorded-Earplugs/dp/B000RMFGGY). LPF stands for 'low pressure foam' which means your ears will not hurt after wearing them all night.

I re-use these for about a week before I move to a new pair, so a 200-pair box lasts about 4 years. Highly recommended.

I wear these earplugs with my SMH-10 and they actually balance out the sound really well as well as blocking out wind noise.

I was thinking about buying a better helmet, but for 17 bucks, it's hard to argue with that price.

I use these and theyre great. They are "low pressure" so are comfortable for long rides, sleeping, flights, etc and are very easy to insert properly. Less than $20 for 200 pairs and you can use them a few times each before discarding if you have something clean to keep them in.

I know I've seen sample packs where you get a dozen different kinds to try. That might be the way to go before buying a couple hundred pairs. But definitely buy in bulk, so much cheaper that way.

We wear these earplugs at my factory and they will definitely help with dogs and birds.

I wasn't sure how much i'd be into this hobby, so I didn't want to spend a bunch of money on noise-cancelling electronic muffs. I sorted by highest customer rating on Amazon and they are awesome for the price. Come in a protective sleeve.

Got them for everything - motorcycle riding, shooting, needing peace and quiet. If you don't like hard foam plugs or they are uncomfortable, I highly recommend these.

I'd just like to point out that I ordered the Surefire EP7 earplugs that have the same forfactor and these do not bode well with my current helmet, the Scorpion R-2000. It is extremely painful to put on, wear, and remove my helmet with these eaprlugs unfortunately.

If you cannot fit a pair of earbud headphones into your helmet comfortable, these will likely not work for you. In that case just order a pack of disposable earbuds.

I use these every day at work. as long as you get the little "wings" in the right spot they work and feel great.

Russia is quiet, but I don't think you'll like it there otherwise.

As a temporary solution, soft foam in-ear earplugs combined with over-the-ear headphones (construction or noise-cancelling) bring the noise to more tolerable levels for me. When the inside of the ear get's too irritated, replace the in-ear part with soft silicone putty earplugs for swimmers. I usually use silicon putty overnight, and foam plugs during the day, because they have 10 dB better protection rating.

I think people become deafened by this noise over time and after that they can only scream.

I don't know about curtains, but these are amazing. Just make sure you can still hear your smoke alarm. I'm not joking - make sure you can hear it loud enough that you would wake up.

I'm a new rider and I'm aware of the hearing risk so I've tried earplugs.. but am I the only one who thinks the entire riding experience is ruined by wearing them? I guess for me a large part of the enjoyment on the bike is hearing the bike accelerate. I actually find riding boring with earplugs in. I can understand if you are going on a freeway trip.. But I would probably just take the car anyway.

I have a giant box of these in my closet. Maybe they are too quiet? I've even tried to put them in my ear rather shallow, but still it takes the enjoyment out of riding for me.. I'm open to suggestions.. What do you guys wear?
