The best value laptop in my opinion is the HP 15 for $430. It has great spec for it's price that will work very well for multi-tasking with a skylake i5 processor, 8gb of ram and a 128GB SSD (upgradable if you wish). It also has a decent battery life, a lightweight for a 15.6'' at 4.65 pounds, and a 1080p display.

In the 300s, my best suggestion is the Acer E15 for $330. It has a new Kaby Lake i5 processor, 4gb of ram and a 1TB HDD. It would still work fine for multi-tasking, but if you want to heavy multi-task it would be worth buying another RAM stick and upgrading the ram. It also has a 1080p display and a backlit keyboard.

And Above the $430 range, my best suggestion is the HP 15 for $585. It has even more powerful specs with a Skylake i7 processor, 8gb of ram and a 256gb ssd. It also has a full 1080p IPS display, and a pretty decent battery life (advertised up to 6 hours).

None of them are that great. What about something such as this?

Just seeing that you said any size, so I will recommend the standard 15.6. This HP 15-ay018nr 15.6-Inch Laptop with the powerful i7 processor, 8 GB RAM, and fast 256 GB SSD will be perfect for you. It way surpasses the requirements of the manufacturer which is very good. You are looking at a laptop here with not only good performance, but durability and certainly you can look to COREL Draw, possibly Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop and even newer versions of these applications in the future.

The differences between displays affects most users more than almost everything else. If not about screen quality worry about resolution and screen realestate. The 15.6" 1366x768 in the HP doesn't let you fit much onscreen, and forces everything onscreen to be rather large. Coding will see a specific benefit from having more space onscreen, but it affects everything else too.

If you're going for the HP, I'd go with this one: https://www.amazon.com/HP-15-ay018nr-15-6-Inch-Laptop-Intel/dp/B01GFYP8II/

If she can hold out until friday , I would suggest this HP 15-ay018nr because it comes with 15.6-Inch diagonal full HD IPS uwva bright view wled-backlit (1920x1080),
Intel Core i7-6500U, 2.5GHz, dual-core Processor,
8 GB DDR3L SDRAM Memory(great for multitasking),
256 GB M.2 Solid-State Drive(great for faster booting and loading), Super Multi DVD burner,
Windows 10 home.

The reason I asked for your country is because it'd make it easier to search for something. I found this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01L8PDMO6/ref=mp_s_a_1_37?ie=UTF8&qid=1483019918&sr=1-37&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65 but this sale isnt probably going on in your country.

This looks on your budget: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01EXQHRMK/ref=mp_s_a_1_45?ie=UTF8&qid=1483020052&sr=1-45&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&dpPl=1&dpID=51Ir14BRrtL&ref=plSrch

An i5 is still a very great processor.

This has an i7 but not a lot of storage (256GB SSD), but you could just carry around an external HDD (1 TB HDDs go for 60-70$, last time I checked): https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01GFYP8II/ref=mp_s_a_1_70?ie=UTF8&qid=1483020183&sr=1-70&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65

This one has a small ssd only. In my opinion you should make the ssd part a requirement. The boot time is so much faster. I curently have a similar model running fedora 26. Only had one issue with the screen flipping due to the accelometer. Highly recommended this line.

I like how affordable the 510 is. Sucks I missed when it was only $400

I am looking at the HP 15 and the Acer E5

Edit: Im considering the lenovo 510 for its graphics compared to the HP- 15 even though its got an HD. So of the three....

which do you think is better for video chatting?

If you want to go a tad bit over this is a solid one:

Another decent one that's cheaper is an Acer Swift 3 for its IPS screen
or the Acer spin 5 ($400)

Sorry i wasn't able to locate a price for the Acer Spin nor locate links as well.

I went with this one - just tested it out - fast, fast, fast rendering!!! beautiful screen also. Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

The HP 15 linked above though has the i7 and SSD, no? I'm just unsure whether I really need the SSD or not, considering my somewhat reluctance to depend on an external hard drive.

u/SeafoodDuder · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Hi :)

There is this Acer Aspire which looks like it meets most of your requirements. Comes with a i5 + Video Card + Backlit.

This HP with a i7 + M.2 SSD + IPS Screen (Better Screen than the Acer), but no Backlit Keyboard.

u/ELEVENTY_THREE · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

I somehow misread the screen as 13.8 not 13.3 - and thought it might just be big enough. You're right, that would be too small though.

What do you think about this ASUS vs this HP? I had the first HP Envy and did not like it. It was plagued with fan problems and poor build quality. Has HP gotten better in that regard?
