Same price on Amazon.

u/likwidtek · 25 pointsr/Vive

LOL, come on HTC. I mean I love my Vive so much but either Valve should subsidize or HTC needs to lower their price. The Vive is amazing, but at $400, the rift is good enough. Tack on another $100 or so for an additional sensor and some wall mounts and extension cables or whatever and while you can't get 5m x 5m play area, you could at least get a real good 360 rug scale experience.

HTC needs to come down in price man. It's not twice as good as the rift. Better, but not twice as good.

Or you could, y'know, just go to Amazon and check the price for the Vive in USD ... which is gasp $799 USD!

There's literally 0 point in warping the math by starting with the already-marked-up-due-to-import-fees UK Vive and porting that dollar amount over to USD when the product can be purchased outright from a US retailer without converting a thing.

u/TheTurdFlinger · 8 pointsr/videos

Which is around the same price as an actual VR headset now too! You just need a computer that can run it, which is a lot more.

u/aronh1 · 8 pointsr/buildapcforme

If you have all this money to spare I would recommend buying a HTC Vive for virtual reality gaming it's the coolest things I've ever experienced

u/BullockHouse · 7 pointsr/HalfLife

Yeah, I don't actually recommend it unless you have a lot of disposable income. Valve was going for "highest quality VR experience available" and not "affordable". If you want a good VR headset on a reasonable budget, you probably want a Rift S($399), a used Vive ($400), or an Odyssey Plus( $349).

Vive and Odyssey plus have a better refresh rate. Vive is the hardest to set up, but has the most robust hand tracking, followed by the Rift S, followed by the Odyssey plus, which have progressively narrower zones of hand tracking. The Odyssey plus does have the nicest screen in terms of resolution of all three, so that's a significant advantage.

Oh, and don't get the Rift S if you have unusually widely or narrowly set eyes. The lack of hardware IPD adjustment really sucks for the far ends of the bell curve there.

You can add the Steam Controller to your cart and purchase through the Steam Application, which in turn allows reviewing. The HTC VIVE however does not have an add to cart feature on the page which is why you cannot review the product on the Steam Application. If you are looking for reviews of the HTC VIVE, head over to Amazon's website.

Welp lets roll the dice how about an HTC Vive

Looks to be about 799.99 on amazon.

Here is the Link!

Congrats on making bank OP!

u/FredzL · 7 pointsr/oculus

> neither is comfortable to wear for extended periods without needing to adjust or take breaks

I don't know for the Vive, but I can play Eleven for hours without a problem on the Rift.

> Oculus is a little bit cheaper

Oculus Rift + Oculus Touch Bundle is at $598 and HTC Vive is at $799.99 on amazon, that a $200 difference, not a little bit cheaper.

> it's a little bit better looking, and it's a little bit more comfortable. Don't exaggerate the differences.

It's $200 cheaper and by your own admission better looking and more comfortable. If we were talking about any other products like phones or laptops there would be a clearly superior product here. Funny how it does not translate to VR.

u/captroper · 7 pointsr/virtualreality

Not clear why you linked this. It only talks about the vive, the sole mention of the rift is that it can't do large spaces.

> it then has better occlusion resistance than vive as well as above

That makes sense to me, 3 > 2

> mirrors are one of the most common sources for vive tracking glitches, they can fuck with rift too, but only when you are actually near one, lighthouse can be bounced across the room by one

They absolutely are. I was responding to OP's comment "Can be used in dark room and bright room (Obviously no shining surfaces and or mirrors)" He says he isn't talking about mirrors, so that's why I didn't mention them.

> 200$, the rift has its headstrap with headphones included

The rift is $100 cheaper than the vive.

I got my Vive on amazon warehouse to save money. https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00VF5NT4I/ref=dp_olp_used_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=used&m=A2L77EE7U53NWQ

Really great prices for the Vive, and I would definitely recommend a vive. Fantastic for room scale and imo better than a rift because of it's roomscale.

u/Tangeranges · 5 pointsr/youtubehaiku

To expand on what the other commenter has said, both the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift have had a fairly significant price drop over the last couple of months.

The Vive now sits at a much more reasonable price of $599usd while the Oculus Rift sits at $399 although it's strongly recommended that you purchase a 3rd camera sensor for $60 with it to improve the tracking potential. Both come with tracked controller solutions, the Vive with it's wand style and the Rift with Touch.

Personally, I feel that the Vive is a better buy, considering several factors so I'm a bit biased.

-The Rift needs a 3rd sensor which lessens the price gap a fair amount, and takes up a whopping 4 USB 3.0 ports while the Vive uses only a single USB 2.0 port because of the Lighthouse tracking versus the Rift's camera based solution

-They both work for room-scale games, but the Vive is more purpose built for it because of the way tracking works

-This is pretty subjective but I prefer the Vive's display and optics. Neither are objectively better but I like the Vive's slightly larger field of view compared to the Rift's slightly better readability with text

-Vive is much better if you have glasses.

-This is purely subjective, but the Vive has nothing to do with Facebook. To me that's a major plus, but you might not care as much.

As much as I adore my Vive, the Rift has several advantages too

-First, it's outright cheaper, regardless of having to buy the 3rd sensor

-The controllers feel more natural in the hand when you're playing games where you have hands instead of tools (Vive is better if you're playing a shooter for example as the controllers feel like you're holding something like that)

-The Rift has a built in pair of headphones which are actually quite good, and light weight. I didn't think this was a huge deal at first since I have good headphones already, but not having to worry about that extra cable dangling from your head is a nice luxury to have

-The Rift's stock head strap is much nicer, and general ergonomics are better. The Vive has an upgraded Deluxe Audio Strap that you can buy now, but it's a hundred bucks.

-Access to a bunch of free Oculus funded games through Home. The Vive can play these too, but you have to use a middleware program called ReVive for it to work.

To finish off this wall of text, some minimum recommended PC spec's:

-At least an i5 from the 4000 series of chips (IE i5 4590 is what Oculus used to recommend as a minimum) or 3000 series if you can overclock (I have an OC'd i7 3770k at 4.6 ghz and it's working great) EDIT: Also a Ryzen r5 1500 or better would work. Gotta rep team Red!

-Standard gaming amount of RAM, 8-16GB

-Modern mid-range graphics card like an RX 480/580, or a GTX 1060 6GB, or a higher end older card like a GTX 970 or R9 380x (this would be cutting it close)

I wouldn't recommend using anything older than that, any kind of stutter can and will make you ill. Trust me, sim sickness is no fun haha

If you've got any other question feel free to ask!

u/Seth0351 · 4 pointsr/longrange

So you'll need a few things for the game, first is a decent computer. Second is the actual VR bundle, I would suggest either the HTC Vive or the Oculus Rift. There's a lot of good discussion on which one to get on various subreddits, /r/Vive, /r/oculus and /r/virtualreality.

Games:

Practism VR if you do IDPA or that type of stuff

Also, watch out for "Just Launched" sellers with deals too good to be true. I've had 4 orders where fake tracking numbers were entered. Amazon has refunded each, but because there's fake tracking, you have to contact Amazon and have them investigate.
Right now there's a new seller offering the HTV - VIVE for $599 with free shipping (from Mexico). While I don't know for a fact this is a scam it's $100 less than ANYWHERE else, and there's no way I'd order it:

u/OwThatHertz · 2 pointsr/HTC_Vive

It's in stock almost everywhere: Amazon | NewEgg | BestBuy | Micro Center | Microsoft Store. $499 USD at every one. Buy it from those retailers or any others. Don't buy from HTC; they're a nightmare to deal with, judging by the posts I see here and my own customer support experience.

u/TrefoilHat · 2 pointsr/virtualreality

Since both play the same games, you may want to look at the bundled software for each - what's better than games? Free games!

  • With Rift (per Amazon listing): "7 Free games included with purchase: Robo Recall, Lucky’s Tale, Dragon Front, Quill, Medium, Dead & Buried, and Toybox"

  • With Vive (per Amazon listing): "Included Content from Viveport: Everest VR, Richie’s Plank Experience" and from this IGN article: "Starting today, every HTC Vive will come with a free copy of Star Trek: Bridge Crew, the multiplayer spaceship simulator from Ubisoft and Red Storm Entertainment."

Bolded titles above are the bigger budget/higher rated games. Of course, some love the others too, but they tend to be more niche (like sculpting/art) or indie/"experiences" (e.g., Richie's Plank Experience, Toybox).
u/arbitrarytext · 2 pointsr/cm3d2

Those headsets have only been out for a month so it's too soon to say. They only just started Steam VR's beta for them yesterday. When supports for them becomes official it'll be listed on the game's update page(currently it only lists the Rift and HTC Vive.)

As for price, as of this writing the Rift is $399, the Vive is $599 and the Windows HMDs are between $399 and $499.

There'll probably be a black friday sale for the Rift and Vive but not for the new Windows HMDs as they just came out. One of the VR subreddits might be able to give more insight as just how much they're compatible with current software. For example, some users have been able to make games that work for the Rift only and the Vive only work on the other system so it's not too much of a stretch if a user might've been able to make code to help the Window's HMD's compatability.

u/PhysicsVanAwesome · 2 pointsr/beatsaber

If you spend $100 dollars more, you can get an unused original vive.

It is totally worth it to get the vive man. Far superior tracking and room scale is a hoot to experience. There are a huge number of games available now and if you already have a gaming PC, then you are set to go man. That is usually the biggest hurdle for people looking to get into VR. The cost of a VR system + a gaming PC is just too much for most to bare at once.

On PSVR, you don't have access to the huge library of custom songs that the community has built up. Not to mention all the other life-improving mods that are available to the PC players which aren't available to PSVR. The game doesn't automatically generate maps; every mapping you've seen was painstakingly done by hand by one of the many dedicated and talented mappers in the community.

I have had this game since launch and it has turned my gaming computer into a beat saber playing device; I've put over 400 hrs into this damn game lol. I've basically stopped playing other VR games because beat saber is my go to; it never gets old, especially with the constant stream of new content from both the devs and the community.

Great exercise too. I've lost a fairly large amount of weight. I think I was around 200-210 lbs before I started playing a bunch and now I'm down to like 170 lbs, so I lost maybe 30-40 lbs. My resting heart rate has plummeted too, it's crazy. The VR health institute found that players playing the OST songs (the songs that came with the game which are way more tame than the community made stuff) were burning calories at the equivalent rate as someone playing tennis. They did an experiment to get data on the custom songs too and I believe they actually measured oxygen consumption and the whole 9 yards for those tests, but they haven't published it yet. I'm certain that the results are going to be crazy if they ever release the data.

u/MorkSal · 1 pointr/RandomActsOfGaming

Congrats on the windfall and thanks OP! Hope it more than covers the cost of some of these super expensive ones!

Not as expensive as other ones here but I'd absolutely love one. I can't afford it, but could probably swing the video card upgrade I'd need, if a Vive fell in my lap.

Hey, congrats to your profit, I guess you were really lucky or really clever. :)

This is an awesome way to let the world be part of your celebration! I'd like to announce the wish I have for nearly two years now, and I'm still saving money for this: A VR headset is the future of gaming, I'm sure. I updated my computer part by part (when I had the money) to be compatible and powerful enough to control an HTC Vive, and now only the Vive itself is missing, but it costs like $800 (like here at Amazon.com).

If you won't pick me, I'll be able to scrape the money together next Spring or early Summer, I guess (Christmas presents will eat up all I can spare until the end of the year), but it would be super-awesome to be able to have it much earlier. Thank you for you wonderful idea and I wish you all the best.

I usually guilt myself out of buying things because of the price tag.

This year I've been eyeballing a new 4K TV. I watched the 65" I like come down from $1750 to $1150 just since October.

I'm also starting to get really tempted for an HTC Vive ($800). The careful spender in me wants to wait for the games and platform to improve before buying, but the kid in me really wants a cool new toy!

I'd also like to take my family somewhere beautiful soon.

Not sure of a proper way to post this buy if you go this this link, you can see availablity of Amazon Warehouse deals on HTC vive. It depends on your location, but they usually are at some discount. My area currently shows $399^90 "Used: acceptable"

Or you can just use the "departments" drop down, select "amazone Warehouse Deals" and Search for HTC Vive and it shows other things as well.

Samsung HMD Odyssey+ - $355.00 new on Amazon.com as of 7/3/2019

Pros:

  • Low cost of entry. This headset and controller bundle is regularly on sale for $299.99 new, and can be had for as low as $250-270 refurbished.
  • Uses the halo mounting method, ideal for larger heads and long-term comfort.
  • 1440x1600 resolution per eye, equivalent to the HTC Vive Pro.
  • Superior anti-"screen door effect" filtering gives arguably the second-best overall image clarity on the VR market behind the HP Reverb.
  • Uses OLED panels, which provide superior color range and depth.
  • 90 Hz screen refresh rate provides smooth head tracking, so most people with motion sickness won't have problems.
  • The spacing between the lenses can be adjusted for individuals with interpupillary distance (IPD) outside of the average range, making it more accessible.
  • Included headphones provide good audio quality.
  • Extremely easy setup, only two cables and no tracking sensors.
  • Can be used in conjunction with SteamVR tracking solutions that support the HTC Vive wands or Valve Index controllers, providing an upgrade path if you're unsatisfied with the Windows controllers and don't want to pay for a whole new VR set.
  • Windows Mixed Reality ecosystem allows for some optimized games to be played on a much wider range of hardware. Space Pirate Trainer, for example, is supported at a 60 Hz refresh rate on an Intel HD 620 integrated graphics chip if purchased through the Windows Store.

    Neutral:

  • 110° vertical field of view.
  • Uses inside-out tracking.
  • Controllers require user-replaceable AA batteries.
  • Customer support is adequate, but the serial numbers for Windows Mixed Reality HMDs can't be registered on Samsung's website. All service requests must be handled by phone.

    Cons:

  • Only uses two forward-facing cameras for controller tracking. This can have issues when you have to reach back over your shoulders for more than two seconds.
  • Traditional low cost Ni-MH rechargeable AAs don't output a high enough voltage to consistently power the controllers. Traditional disposable AAs or more expensive Lithium rechargeable AAs are necessary.
  • Does not support finger tracking, controllers are strictly wand-style input.
  • While compatible with SteamVR, not every SteamVR title supports the Windows Mixed Reality controllers. If support isn't stated outright on the game's store page, you will very likely have to do some controller configuration tweaks.
  • No driver support for Linux users.

    Oculus Rift S - $399.00 new on Amazon.com as of 7/3/2019

    Pros:

  • Low cost of entry. This headset and controller bundle is $399.99 new at all retailers. While refurbished SKUs are scarce, they will likely be available over the next few months, and the sale price for new units will likely be discounted later in the year for seasonal sales.
  • Uses the halo mounting method, ideal for larger heads and long-term comfort.
  • Uses six cameras for controller tracking, which supports a greater range of motion than the Windows Mixed Reality headsets.
  • Supports finger tracking with Oculus Touch.
  • Oculus ecosystem support with exclusive software.
  • Extremely easy setup, only two cables and no tracking sensors.
  • Universal SteamVR controller compatibility.
  • Superior customer service experience compared to most of its competition.

    Neutral:

  • 110° vertical field of view.
  • Uses inside-out tracking.
  • Controllers feature built-in lithium-ion rechargeable batteries.
  • "Screen door effect" filtering isn't as good as its competition in this price bracket, though still better than most.

    Cons:

  • 1280x1440 resolution per eye is inferior to its competition in this price bracket.
  • Uses LCD panels, which provide a more flat range of color compared to OLED.
  • 80 Hz screen refresh rate is still relatively smooth, though people more sensitive to motion sickness may have problems with it.
  • The spacing between lenses cannot be adjusted, so individuals with interpupillary distance (IPD) outside of the average range will not be able to use the Rift S.
  • Included headphones provide a poor audio experience, the bass is especially weak.
  • Incompatible with other controller tracking solutions.
  • No driver support for Linux users.

    HTC Vive - $480.41 on Amazon.com as of 7/3/2019

    Pros:

  • Uses OLED panels, which provide superior color range and depth.
  • 90 Hz screen refresh rate provides smooth head tracking, so most people with motion sickness won't have problems.
  • The spacing between the lenses can be adjusted for individuals with interpupillary distance (IPD) outside of the average range, making it more accessible.
  • Universal SteamVR controller compatibility.
  • "Lighthouse" tracking provides the best range of motion for controllers out of any VR controller tracking solution currently available.
  • Can be used in conjunction with SteamVR tracking solutions that support the Valve Index controllers, providing an upgrade path if you're unsatisfied with the HTC Vive wand controllers and don't want to pay for a whole new VR set.
  • Driver support for Linux users.

    Neutral:

  • 110° vertical field of view.
  • Controllers feature built-in lithium-ion rechargeable batteries.

    Cons:

  • High cost of entry. This is especially noticeable given that superior competitors have emerged at a lower cost since the HTC Vive's original release back in 2016.
  • Velcro strap-based head mounting solution is more uncomfortable than the competition.
  • 1080x1200 resolution per eye, the worst in its price bracket.
  • "Screen door effect" is very noticeable when looking at the panels for extended periods.
  • No included audio solution. You must either use your own headphones or purchase the Deluxe Audio Strap separately for $99.99 new.
  • Does not support finger tracking, controllers are strictly wand-style input.
  • More involved setup process than its competition. Six cables and a bridge must be connected between the PC and the HMD, and two Lighthouses must be plugged in and secured above head level in two different locations across a room diagonally for optimal coverage.
  • Infamously bad customer service that regularly breaks warranty law for EU customers and often charges for repairs for unrelated issues or problems that should be covered under warranty for worldwide customers.

Waiting on Amazon stock because I have a lot of GC saved up. Looks like they'll be getting some soon? (see: Bonus Offer)

The 5 best-looking VR games at E3 2016

Juegos como, RES7, Star Trek, Star Wars, Serious Sam, Doom (2016), FallOut 4.

Personalmente me gustaría un Alien Isolation!!! Ja!

E3 was secretly terrible for the future of virtual reality

Habla de lo mainstream que se está volviendo el tema de los VR, las guerras de derechos entre plataformas y la cantidad de gente que se descompuso usando los headsets en la E3.

> Unfortunately, we also learned that some of those games might make you sick.

>Even players who've spent countless hours in virtual reality (like our own Jess Conditt) found themselves on the verge of puking while playing Resident Evil 7: Biohazard -- and it wasn't because of the horror game's gory visuals, either. No, it's that the game is pushing the limits of PlayStation's hardware, barely managing to run at the minimum 60 frames per second required for PSVR. The problem? Every other VR headset on the market recommends that games run at a minimum of 90 fps.

Craigslist if your confident with it and that would get you the max amount for it (i live in Boston and can see a few of both around here).

Amazon also lets you sell stuff and i think video game related things they only take 8% vs Ebays 10%, but i dont even know if you can sell it on there right now or what restrictions they may have.

Edit: i guess you can on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/HTC-Vive-Pc/dp/B00VF5NT4I/ref=sr_1_44?ie=UTF8&qid=1462371985&sr=8-44&keywords=htc+vive

They are also putting Viveport subscriptions on sale for 35-63% off as long as the deal lasts (it ends some time on Monday). While the link makes no mention of Fallout 4 you can see that you get it for free if you go to the page for the VIVE itself. About half way down you will see that FO4 comes for free. The free copies of Fallout 4 VR are not limited to Black Friday/Cyber Monday but I do believe they will not be offered by the end of December.

The Occulus Rift and several other VR sets (Acer and Microsoft for example) are also going on sale for Black Friday but there is no Fallout 4 included so I can't make a post about it here.

What's going on with Amazon Canada? Their price for the Vive from the official source is $1700, whereas it's $1150 on Steam. What the actual fuck happened there?

u/Bencraft8 · 0 pointsr/Vive

There is a Like New going for $350 on amazon right now, what would you say about that?

u/minorgrey · 0 pointsr/Games

They're on Amazon

You can also get them from a microsoft or gamestop store.

Edit: just realized you're probably talking about the accessories. Right now it's just through HTC, and not for a couple of months. Vive is on amazon and in microsoft stores so I'm sure they'll sell the accessories there at some point.

u/Blaexe · -1 pointsr/virtualreality

Wait - which products are you talking about? Rift is $400 and Vive is $600. To achieve parity, you should add a sensor for the Rift and the DAS for the Vive - so the difference is more than $200.

Which will give you basically the same experience. Some prefer the Rift, some prefer the Vive. But neither is objectively better.

Regardless of its affiliate link status, everything past the product ID bloats the link and looks suspicious (especially the "ref=")

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VF5NT4I would be an improved and concise link.
