There are covers you can get.

They'll protect against scuffs, but obviously if you smash the thing hard enough you might just snap the plastic. I find the best way to avoid this sort of stuff is to just not go completely wild with my movement. There's also an application called [OpenVR Advanced Settings] (https://github.com/matzman666/OpenVR-AdvancedSettings) that lets you customize chaperone boundaries. It lets you adjust chaperone height, which might be helpful in giving you an idea of how high the ceiling is. .

I use these

I use these, they won't protect against anything too intense but they are better than nothing and are pretty comfortable to use. I also got the HMD skin as well to match.

They come in different colors too just look for them on Amazon

As a heads up, I use the Hyperkin silicone thingamajig and I still have this exact issue

I have Hyperkin GelShell controller skins. They're ok. I don't know if they'll help with the grip button problem, but they seem to add a bit of grip for your hands. They also come in different colors.

I've never had this problem. I'm using these grips. Do you have any skins/grips on your controller? Also, are you using the wrist straps?

The protectors I got are here: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LEZO1ZO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and they work great, comfortable etc.

I picked up the Hyperkin silicone shells. here They keep it from getting scratched and absorb a small amount of the shock from contact.

I knocked over my display (my desk faces the play area) and scraped a controller against the wall hard. No serious damage but...

I was having so much fun, I didn't even care. I just laughed.

You might want some gel controller covers though. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LEZO1ZO

Don't think it would stop ribbons from coming loose, but I use these and they at least stop scuffs and scratches both on my walls and on the controllers as well. I'm sure they absorb a little bit of the impact in larger hits, but I doubt its anything substantial.

They are a great product though. I got them in white with for the HMD to match, and they both fit perfectly and look dope too.

I have these in white

You have no idea how many times you'll bang them together trying to pull the pin out of a grenade. Just buy them. Much less frequently I hit myself in the HMD, these are perfect for softening those blows as well. I also don't recommend any other brands as I've never tried them and these had the best reviews when I got them.

Thanks for sharing

I was printing the cups, but on about 70% it broke (Y axe not calibrated properly, moved the whole part from the spot so i had to stop)
I have to recalibrate my printer and try it again.

I suggest using duct tape. Its what im using for my current stock. Or buy those silicone covers, should work great too (heard from Protubevr creator he tested and they work as good as the ones with it).

I wish they were cheaper. Already had to buy two replacements after killing my original two controllers with sweat damage. Tip - check these out. I got them a few months ago and they do a great job of protecting the controllers from sweat and scratches.

People buy floor mats so they can turn the Chaperone off. If you're okay with a grid popping up in front of you when you get too close to the boundaries of your play space, then you don't need a mat.

As for padding the walls, people buy those after they've destroyed their first controller from punching a wall. If you are able to turn off that animalistic part of your brain that convinces you what you're experiencing is real, then you don't have to worry about padding your walls. But almost nobody is able to do that right away -- especially when they're new to VR -- so I'd recommend buying some skins for your controllers (and possibly headset too).

Does anyone with the GelShell controller skins have a comment on whether they improve gameplay (i.e. feel better, controller easier to grip, etc)?

I don't care about looks and I'm not worried about my controllers getting scuffed, but I would consider buying if you think tactilely they feel better than original controller?
