I was lucky in 5th grade to be assigned this book to read that drove this point home very strongly. I recommend it.

It's very common to demonize the entirety of Nazi Germany these days. It's really bizarre to have people look at you blankly when you tell them most people in Nazi Germany weren't evil.

You may be right, it might be I Was There by Hans Peter Richter.
