Question for the Realtors: It's 2019. How come lockboxes that you can control via your cell phone aren't the norm? Obviously do some research on the features, etc, but example 1 and example 2.

I would even go farther, and use something like calendly to let buyer's agents schedule. Shared outlook calendar for "123 Main St" with calendly, listing agent, and homeowner. Homeowner can book up any time they don't want the home to be shown (I use calendly IRL and if I don't want anyone to book 2 pm because I'm going to lunch of w/e, and not near my outlook, I just book a time with myself on my cell phone), and once a day the listing agent tells the lockbox to unlock (only to those with the combo from the MLS) 10 minutes before the scheduled times. You're also creating a digital record of which Realtors showed the house and when, so if something goes missing it's not hard to narrow it down.

Let's say you're a top producing agent with 5 listings at once. That's one time <$1000 for 5 digital cellular lockboxes and then $13/mo for calendly. Each address has their own calendly (or similar) and outlook (or google, etc) calendar shared by the listing agent with the respective homeowner. If you're selling 3-5 homes a month, you can afford it.
