Use a gamepad with the legacy profile. Right stick will do suuuuuper smooth pans. As always though, refer to our Director Mode expert /u/mr-hasgaha.

Do note that the gamepad legacy profile from CIG has needed some love for a LONG time, so it's got several missing commands and overlapping ones now, and you'll need to tweak it to actually be able to fly/play with it. That said, it's stupid easy to hop into 3PV and pan the camera around.

Sadly, zooming in and out is still gimped by having to hold the STUPID F4 KEY (WTF CIG?) though you can get a simple USB foot pedal and bind it to hold F4 when pressed down. (or use any other device/button to emulate F4).

(Also CIG apparently hates us calling it "Director Mode" though I personally love calling it that even more because of the fact)

> I don't mind swapping inputs but I asked so if there was a way to just play it on the computer as if opening another game, it'd be a lot easier.

Like a shortcut on your desktop? Not really. I mean, it's still just starting the capture software. But it's a lot less steps to:

  • Push home button on your game controller to turn Switch on.
  • Press button on cheap HDMI switch to change input for your monitor.
  • Select game on home screen.

If you have a Logitech G633, you can have your headset plugged into your PC (USB) and Switch (audio jack) at the same time. If you setup a foot pedal you can additionally setup that up as your Push-To-Talk button on Teamspeak/Mumble/Discord on your PC for voice chat while you're playing.

Thanks for the advice. Is it possible to get a single pedal for cheaper? I just need 1 and 80 is a bit more than I'm looking to spend

Edit: would something like this work?

Cutting a hole through the cap and then using the Spintrak screw cap to keep it in place...could work, yeah...I was going smaller because my setup has a lot going on already, but 2-3", center of the deck, could be better in another setup.

I'm mulling over trying this - the wheel attachment, whether it's the Spintrak one or Wii wheel, is too big for my current setup, I'm realizing. Even if I flip the trigger stick and spinner positions on mine, the wheel won't clear the trigger. And moving the trigger far right, I can't cleanly install that with the current deck button holes. So I might actually try this 45 degree PVC setup, but below the control deck, like the Pole Position video I shared. I did buy a USB pedal, will let you know if it works!

Apparently, most Mame driving games default to a right stick throttle? Which is another interesting thing I'm going to try - have accelerate and brake work with pushing up or down on my current left stick. Going to try that today...

Edit: left stick for gas (down) and gear (up) in Pole Position is REALLY fun...can't believe i didnt think of trying this...

I have a cheap one off amazon. Its basically an optical sensor mounted between 2 small squares with a lever that breaks the beam. Driver wise, its essentially a 1-key keyboard. There's software (download from website, didnt come with it) that allow you to connect to the device and change which key it emulates. In order to avoid conflicts I map mine to capslock and then bind capslock as my PTT key in discord. That way if i key in while typing I onLY DO thIS.

Edit: before anyone asks its this one or a clone. Eventually when you start having trouble with it, figure out how to rock it off its axis pin (i cant explain it) and bend the light sensor a little closer and dust it. I've had to do this maybe twice when I first got it, and its been going strong with daily use for ~3 years now. I actually bought a nicer one to replace it when it started having iffy response after about 4 months, but ended up doing the bend fix before it arrive and have yet to switch out. Hard to beat for $15

I think /u/mwjt42's suggestion is best. If you can't find anything there another option would be an electric keyboard pedal.

I guess the real question is, what is your input method? Is it connecting to a computer? Were you hoping for USB? Maybe something like this, used for gaming it might be durable enough. Maybe look for something better, from a reputable brand in the gaming industry.

If you really hate the idea of push to talk because it fucks with your in game movements or whatever you can get a foot pedal for like $10 that you can bind to your push to talk key.

The device you want should do exactly that. I've seen some even cheaper ones on amazon that at one point I've considered getting for my left foot, but I have so many inputs now, screw it, no need.

mixed reviews but for 14 bucks who can really complain:

as for the after market cable to get pedals to work with PC without the steering wheel attached:

The cable ships from the UK took a week or so to get here if I recall correctly.

Found some pedals on ebay here:

at 50 bucks these are a steal!
