Honestly, the seperate Keyboard situation is totally fine. The thing about the Keyboard case is, they get banged up so easily. I've seen a few reviews on them and most looked super rugged and used up after just a couple of months of usage. Personally, that bothers me given the price.
There are almost perfect replicas of the magnet case without the keyboard for 10-15$. I just got one of those and when i'm on the go i pack my wireless microsoft keyboard in the bag.
When i lay in bed i like to plop the Ipad out and just hold it without any casing around it, so the magnet cases are perfect for that.
