What makes your parts so special that we would buy your "like new" over Amazon's "brand new" for the same price? I could just get a brand new 6600K on Amazon for $220.

Building a PC (obviously) and getting some mixed results in regards to two different CPU's. I'd like opinions on which ones to choose from.

The Intel Boxed Core I5-6600K was my original choice, but I've had some people try to convince me to get AMD FD6300WMHKBOX FX-6300 instead. Obviously there's a big price difference between these two CPU's, but I'm hearing a lot of "intel marks up their prices way too much" and "the amd can do everything intel will do and has two more cores anyway" and other stuff like that which, to me, just sounds like AMD fanboyism trying to discredit the other CPU, but I also admit I don't actually know that much and that they could be right. Also, the fact that there's multiple of them.

So I'd like some input from you guys!

tl;dr: Intel Boxed Core I5-6600K or AMD FD6300WMHKBOX FX-6300

u/kyledawg92 · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

MSRP is only $243, so probably. The other Skylake i5's have been pretty close to their MSRP.

Edit: Amazon price chart. It's been $240 several times now. Probably will be soon again.

u/ItWasDumblydore · 2 pointsr/bapcsalescanada

Wrong it's pricing against i3's but has single threaded performance is around many lake per GHz the r3 1300x will be 150$ with the power of an I5 6xxx/7xxx at 3.5ghz stock clocks.

R3 1300x is 4 physical cores at 3.5ghz unlocked. Prob could push it to 3.8 to 3.9 GHz with the stock cooler.

A series Mobo can't overclock though but B series are only 30$ more from 50 being around 80-90$ for the 2 ram slots version. So cad prob be 210$ with mobo for something that compares to the stock top tier i5 for the 6000 series. 250$ if you want to Overclock

So it's competing with this

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B012M8M7TY/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1500513913&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=i5-6600k&dpPl=1&dpID=41qV0dbcgOL&ref=plSrch

For around 150$.

Here was my attempt, came in about $40 over if you have Amazon Prime. Decent build - definitely a great home to drop a GPU into later. glhf!

Instead of upgrading to another budget build, why dont you just save your money until you can make the jump to i5 and 1060 6gb? You’ll end up with more power and more money since you wont have to upgrade again. You can get a i5-6600k with any 1060 6gb for a very solid 1080p 60 fps build.

i5-6600k , dual fan 1060 6gb

It’d cost you around $500 total for both parts, 1060’s are almost back to msrp.

I’m not sure if you need to flash your motherboard in order to use the i5-6600k but just in case i would. how to flash motherboard , you’ll need a usb and can do it pretty fast.

u/Craycoala · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I'm a tad confused, is this a new system build or do you already have the CPU and motherboard? If you already have the CPU/motherboard definitely don't upgrade to Skylake, just get a 4790k if you're looking for an upgrade.

If the above is true and you already have the CPU/mobo disregard this. Now, if you are doing a new build I would really recommend getting a Skylake CPU. While Haswell is still a very powerful and viable generation, there are no more upgrades beyond the 4790k so it will go obsolete faster than Skylake, as Kaby Lake and Cannon Lake are yet to be released for the Skylake generation. As for Haswell outperforming their Skylake counterparts, the i5-6600k and the i5-4690k perform basically the same with the 6600k being slightly better (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gs2RKt0MS9w). They also cost pretty much the same (6600K: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012M8M7TY/?tag=pcpapi-20 and the 4690k: https://www.amazon.com/Intel-Core-i5-4690K-Processor-BX80646I54690K/dp/B00KPRWB9G/).

For the i7-4790k and the i7-6700k, again they perform more or less the same with the 6700k being slightly better (https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Haswell-vs-Skylake-S-i7-4790K-vs-i7-6700K-641/). As for cost, again they cost about the same (4790k: https://www.amazon.com/Intel-i7-4790K-Processor-Cache-BX80646I74790K/dp/B00KPRWAX8 and the 6700k: https://www.amazon.com/Intel-Unlocked-Skylake-Processor-BX80662I76700K/dp/B012M8LXQW). Since the release of Skylake, 1151 motherboards and DDR4 RAM have come down in price and more or less equal in price when compared to 1150 motherboard and DDR3 RAM.

u/Rancorip · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Both are fine, I believe the 6600k is like 10$ more expensive, for the extra .3GHz. If he doesnt plan on OC'ing now, but may in the future, its probably worth spending the extra money. Bonus: Explain it to him so he can decide to learn for himself =D

Dude do the fucking research, it's right here in front of you. No one has paid $399 for an i7 6700k since like a month after it came out. The article is comparing inflated MSRP prices to Microcenter sale prices. It's clickbait bro. Yes $250 is a crazy good deal but this is about clearing inventory, not Ryzen shitting on Intel before it's even released.

Now, I have a few questions.

  • How will I know if the cooler is going to fit and not be in the way of anything?

  • I can't seem to find any small cases that have the features of the larger ones (vents, top and side fans). Should I just stay with a larger case?

  • I need an s/pdif optical for my speakers. Should I get a pcie card or external usb?

  • How will I know if the video card hangs over the spare pcie slot?

  • WiFi - USB vs Pcie?

EVGA 500W Non Modular PSU $36

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 G1 $409.99

MSI Z170A-Pro $107

Vengeance LPX 8GB DDR4 DRAM 2400MHz $45

i5 6600K $235.99

TP-Link AC600 Wireless High Gain Dual Band USB Adapter $24.99

Thats a total of: $859. That still leaves you with some room for your case and a hard drive or a solid state drive. If you have Prime, you'll get everything in two days for free (Student Prime, Trial). Dont forget the CPU FAN! Coolmaster has the 212 for $27 or so!

EDIT: I had posted it as a comment to your post again instead of as a comment to you reply, but I fixed it hopefully before people saw it!

That's because it was likely different vendors, for example this shows everybody selling the i5 6600K. If you're worried, then only buy from Amazon or when it's fulfilled by Amazon.

u/nvidia_gtx · 1 pointr/buildapc

With what you want to do you can get an i5-6600 with a MSI z-170-A and some G.Skill DDR4 and you'll have newer hardware for the same if not less. GPU wise WAIT FOR PASCAL to drop it will be worth it. Even if you won't buy a 1070 the prices for the 900 line will drop in price. Also maybe invest in a higher quality PSU. Cheap PSUs just cause problems down the road.

Those 3 are in my current set-up and i am gaming in VR with a GTX 970. The 960 will do though for most games, i haven't seen it run anything less than 60fps.

lol, you need to do more research or your gonna buy stuff your gonna end up regretting. dont get the network card you absolutely dont need it. dont get the sound card you dont need it. you could get away with a cheaper power supply, around 600-650 watts. with that you could save enough money to buy an i5 6600k for 235 which is light years better than that AMD chip. youll also need a different motherboard socket lga 1151 and ddr4 memory. and like i said you dont need 32 gig. most people dont. get 16.

Will be able to play any game at 1080p, you can get windows for free using the guide at the top of the sub, if you want a non watermarked version you can replace the i7 with a i5 7600k or 6600k.

Also for about $100 more you could pick up a GTX 1070 that will outperform the Rx 480 by a notable margin.

This build would work great, but if you really don't want to pay that i7 price, you can always get a solid i5 (i5-6500k/6600k). They support DDR4, and you won't really notice too much of a difference when gaming (unless you're playing some hardcore MMOs), but streaming will probably be different.

It's the part of getting into firefights and going below 40 frames I can't handle. When I'm far away sniping my kills are clean and I can do running headshots all day. Something Has to change. How much different could the game run once BF5 comes out?

From what I've found, the i7-6700k is only available from outer retailers, but is it worth 360 plus, for my build at least? (I've recently seen a boost in pc part prices so I am concerned)

Also, is the water cooler(corsair hydro H115i), worth it? favoring the coolermaster cosmo2 case or may use a rack build for possible 4x LAN design for all recording pcs in singular location, and hoping if the parts are worth the attempt (hoping to start stream team/lets play group, but need a beta test with this build).

Thanks for the help.

Ya, im using a samsung S24D590L which is 1080. Do you have any recommendations for a 1440p monitor?

After checking tom's hardware PSU tier list, I did a search for something available in China for around the same price. I found the Season G-650, tier 2 on the above list, for only about 15$ dollars more.

I also upgraded to the 6600k

I also do have a version of windows 8 on my old comp but its water damaged and won't start. I might still have the box back in the states, but I'm not certain on that.

Yea it's like a $50-60 difference between the old 2nd gen used and a brand new i5-6600k on Amazon.

If you want to stick with your current MOBO your best choice would be the i7-2700k. However, I would recommend you to upgrade to Skylake, which means new MOBO, CPU and new RAM.

> I heard the 6600 has a 10% performance increase over the 6500 and I'd gladly pay an extra $30 for that.

Less than 10% increase. Single digit percentage. If you want 6600, get 6600k. Same price anyways, and a real increase. Plus OC option.

As for using the 8 cores, any program demanding CPU time can split itself in "threads", to a degree, and distribute those threads among CPU cores, so several things get done at once. Some programs do it better than others and can use a high number of cores. Others, not so much, and games tend to fall in the "not so much" category. So it's quite possible you're gaming and half your cores run at 100%, while the rest is idle.

That's not how you should allocate the money. Get an i5 or an i7, something like this, a compatible motherboard - this is a nice one compatible with the CPU I linked, and an 8GB RAM stick or two - the specific brand doesn't really matter, Kingston/Corsair/G.Skill are all good.

So what would be some good CPU's to base a build on?

The i7-6700K @ 4.0 ghz for LGA1151 architecture -
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B010T6DQTQ or i5 alternative

The i7-4790k @ 4.0 ghz for LGA 1150 architecture -
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KPRWAX8 or i5 alternative

and the i7-2600K @3.4 ghz for LGA 1155 architecture -
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004FA8NOQ (Can't be bothered to find an i5 alternative).

I'd love to see a proper break down of FPS for difference CPUs

Edit - see a great response from /u/randonneur16

Any feedback on this Build? Going to be used mostly for Adobe suite illustration and pc gaming (WoW, Overwatch, League)

Hi buddy. Im wondering why you have the i5 3570k selected, this processor is over 4 years old now? Here is what you should be looking to get. Paired with a z170 socket lga 1151 motherboard and ddr4 ram would be MUCH more modern and cheaper than finding those legacy parts.

u/Nikalus · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

PC parts don't get price cuts like the xbox does though, IIRC the 2500k still goes for like 20 bucks under retail if bought brand new. that's a 6 year old processor. your xbox started at 400 or something (excluding tax and xbox live) and is now being sold for 40% less than when it came out. source for the price, i'm not sure what launch price was but that's 40 dollars more than the new 6th gen 6600k.
