I used to make people us this guy:
Superpad

It actually wasn't that bad.

Don't think we're talking about the same this here it was way better than the 64 controller. Much closer to a modern design. Also had turbo. Also never came with the 64, not even Nintendo brand.

Had these and the control sticks last forever. They look a bit different, but functionally they are just the same except that they fit bigger hands better.

There were a few third party n64 controllers that were two handed and better than the original. I had one that although the left hand hold was huge it was way better, primarily because the control stick was high quality and didn’t grind and get chalky. It actually had a double hinge design, so it had vertical rotator inside a horizontal one to get the full 360 degrees of rotation, and it was buttery smooth and springy. Like a modern controller. It was also beveled in instead of out so it didn’t hurt your thumb.

Edit: here it is: https://www.amazon.com/InterAct-SuperPad-64-Controller/dp/B00000K4ST

People don’t like how it feels in their hands at first with the large left side, but you get used to it quickly and it is very comfy.

The plus version had things like rapid fire.

That kind has the metal joystick, but it's not as well built as the kind I was talking about.

Look for one like this: http://www.amazon.com/InterAct-SuperPad-64-Controller/dp/B00000K4ST

That's the type I have and I like it quite a bit. I've also heard that the Makopad 64 is essentially the same thing but with a clear purple body, although I haven't seen one in person to confirm it has the metal thumbstick.

for the 360/PC

Here is one for the 64, the Superpad 64, this one is quite costly however, but they do show up on eBay from time to time. You might want to also check independent game stores.

The other comments make a really good point in that controller paks really aren't necessary either (I somehow recalled them being needed much more often, but it seems I was wrong).

As for new vs originals, nah, only if you're OCD with your nostalgia (I kind of am, so I tend to go original). If you are going to get an original controller, even if the analog is worn out you can get a replacement part for a few bucks online. BUT- There is a controller I loved that most people hated because it was so fugly, called the InterAct SuperPad 64. I just personally prefer two handles on my controllers as opposed to three. If you see it at a flea market somewhere or cheap online, it might be worth picking one up...

I'm partial to these, the bottom of the joystick is metal so it doesn't grind away like the OG ones. Also it's made in mind for people with only 2 hands.
