The thermometer can be part of the issue. The stick ons can be highly inaccurate at times. The have been known to be of by as much as 20 degrees. These ate far more accurate. The problems with the stick ons are that they measure more of the glass temps which are affected by the outside air around it than the temps inside the tank.
