Hello hello, concerned wife here. My husband (29m) has been working out during his lunch break at work most days. He doesn't eat breakfast or lunch, but has a protein shake twice during the day, then he'll eat whatever I make for dinner. This is what he takes. Sometimes he'll complain of being so hungry when he gets home, or being light headed, or headaches. I feel that those symptoms are related to his not eating during the day. He insists that he's getting enough calories from the shakes. I'd just like someone else's input on whether he should be eating more than what he is. I don't want him to feel like I'm sabotaging him, I'm just concerned for his safety driving home from work if he's not eating enough during the day.

Thank you!

I'm gonna rant at HOW EXPENSIVE is to buy protein powder in my country.

I love Isopure's, in the US it cost $40 but the same size in my country is $100. If I buy it online, just the shipping and handling for customs will cost me more, plus the tax for importing foods. Next trip to the US, I will try to smuggle a few pounds through the airport.

I really like this one. 50 g if protein: Isopure Low Carb Protein Powder, 100% Whey Protein Isolate, Flavor: Dutch Chocolate, 3 Pounds (Packaging May Vary) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000E8ZJGS?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

I'd clean up the formatting but I'm on my phone.

My personal shake is 2 scoops of Isopure Dutch Chocolate, half a cup of heavy cream, and 8 ounces of coffee. Blend it and chill. If I need extra fat, I add a tsp of coconut oil. The macros come out to: Calories 627, Protein 54, Carbs 5.3, Fat 44.

I really love Isopure's low carb Dutch chocolate. I just checked the ingredients label and it's sweetened with sucralose, I'm honestly not sure if that's consisted a sugar alcohol though or if it's something that would bother your husband's stomach.

Ketostix cannot be used to monitor nutritional ketosis.

I like Isopure for protein powder. Lots of flavors, low-zero carbs.

u/TheMitchofEffingham · 2 pointsr/keto

This one is really good and zero carb. They also have different flavors if chocolate isn't your thing!

You need a blender. Shaking the stuff does not mix enough and leaves clumps like you described. Get a cheap Magic bullet. Those are often on sale. Not a terribly great blender but for protein drinks it works and the cleaning up after is so easy. Bought a real blender first and cleaning it ruined the thing for me and I only need one cup every time and it was just too big.

The Protein powder I am using (after many tries) is Isopure - Low carb - Dutch Chocolate. and I mix it with almond milk due to the less calories. But that is just me and everybody's tastes are different.

I try to eat as much whole foods as possible. Humanely raised meats and eggs and butter, wild caught fish, fresh veggies. I really try to keep processed food to a minimum. However, on days when I don't have the appetite to hit my protein goal, I will have an Isopure zero carb protein shake.

I've never used any of this stuff but I see this suggested a lot.

There is also this, which my keto cousin uses, and a quick google netted me these pre made shakes.

I usually haaaate protein powder, but I tried this Isopure one and it is actually pretty awesome: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E8ZJGS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The chocolate is the only flavor I've tried, but it isn't chalky at all and it blends really well with other flavors.

I was asked by a coworker what the real difference is between this product -- Isopure -- and Keto Chow. After discussing with him, he said in two servings, you have 100% of your vitamins and then you can add heavy cream for fats and calories like KC, and also salt for electrolytes. He wants to switch to KC, but isn't sure of the exact reason why it's different aside from the above product plus heavy cream plus salt.

I searched for isopure and found the following post -- link -- but it wasn't too detailed on the actual specifics.

Can someone who is smarter than me tell me exactly what this specific product is missing, that wouldn't be achieved by adding heavy cream and salt? Not protein powders in general, but this specific one?

I use the Isopure Dutch Chocolate.

Great with heavy cream and almond milk, or cold coffee.

I will occasionally allow myself a chocolate "cheat" Although it's not much of a cheat. Still keep it keto.
