Bobby Slone was the bass player for J.D. Crowe and the New South, whose eponymous release remains one of the most influential bluegrass recordings of its time.

He was also the fiddle player on the Kentucky Colonels' Appalachian Swing!, which also featured a 19 year old Clarence White on guitar and his brother Roland on mandolin.

i agree the vocals (aren't very good in general) and the piano aren't very bluegrass, and you're of course right that real appalachia music is pretty much all strings, but come on; surely you can recognize strong similarities outside of that archetype?

link me some tunes, i'd love to listen and find some new music (after i get back from the bar) one of my favorites right now is jim lauderdale, who i guess i could credit for my "blurred lines" of bluegrass genre classification (hoho)

this is the last time(i'm ever gonna hurt) (dat slide solo @ 1:20)

looking for a good place to land after a listen, try counting the bars on this one. pretty tricky

and of course, i met jesus in a bar
