I asked for and received a lighted makeup mirror for christmas, sadly it came shattered so we have to return it and get a new one. I now have a say in which one we get, so I thought I'd ask for advice.

I know "natural light" is recommended so my mom grabbed the [ott-lite] (http://amzn.com/B004DN8F4S) and it seems nice, but the mirror seems to spin on it's own between the 5x and 1x (reviews say this is a pretty common problem...) I can deal with it, but I also saw the [jerdon] (http://amzn.com/B0000AFUT3) for around the same price and thought it might be better.

Anyone have any experience with both? Which lighting is better? The Jerdon is quite ugly, but I can hide it away if it is amazing :) The ott-lite isn't much nicer on the eyes, but I can deal with the spinning mirror if it's the best in that price range.

Got mine from Amazon - very similar to the OTT one but a lot cheaper. I have had it for a year and a half now and couldn't be happier. $32 on Amazon.

I have this [Jerdon mirror] (https://www.amazon.com/Jerdon-Tri-Fold-Two-Sided-Lighted-Magnification/dp/B0000AFUT3/ref=sr_1_10_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1510602870&sr=8-10&keywords=lighted%2Bmakeup%2Bmirror&th=1) and since Amazon is telling me I've had it since 2014 and I haven't had any issues I would recomend it. It's not pretty, but it works, and I like that there's an outlet on the mirror if you want to use a heat styling tool.

I have this one. I have had it for easily over 4 years. It has a magnifying side, different light settings, and a really handy outlet on it for when I need one (hair tools, a mini fan, or charging my phone). I use the mag side for my eye stuff (lashes, liner, brows) and the non-mag side for my face application. It shouldn't change how you apply makeup, though.

I life having the side panels--especially with lashes I like to make sure they line up perfectly from all angles with my natural lashes. It is nice to see different sides of your face without having to turn your head.

I do wish the mirror was slightly bigger but it is sturdy and serves its purpose. Also like that this one folds down to about 4 inches thick if I ever had to travel with it.

Could not recommend this mirror highly enough. The light is super bright so if your makeup looks good in that light, it will look good anywhere. And you can angle the side mirrors to see how your makeup looks like from the side.

I have my makeup desk set up by a window, but I still don't get as much light as I'd like, so I use a lighted mirror in addition to the natural light I get. This is the mirror I use, and I really like it. It's not the most attractive thing in the world, but it gets the job done, and the additional mirrors on the side make it really easy to see everything I'm doing. I will say that the light is not bright enough if you are looking at that to be your only source of light while you're doing your makeup. But in addition to the sunlight (or ceiling lights at night), it works great. It also has different light settings depending on where you are/what time of day it is, and that really helps too.

My parents bought me this one last Christmas, and I love it! It comes with different light settings too. It's a little small but I don't have space in my room for those instagram worthy trifold mirrors so this does the job :) you can find it cheaper in Walmart or Target though

I just bought a desk I liked at a yard sale and bought one of those 80's tri-fold mirrors my mom used to use:

u/kbiering · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I use this. It works pretty well.

My ex's mom got me a makeup mirror seven or eight years ago (hooooly shit it's been that long...) and I love it. The light settings are pretty awesome, it's a double sided mirror, and I haven't had any issues with it yet. Here's a link to it on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Jerdon-JGL9W-Tabletop-Two-Sided-Magnification/dp/B0000AFUT3/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1370799226&sr=8-2&keywords=makeup+mirror

(Sorry, on my iPad >_< )

u/Whimsy515 · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

The lighting surrounding the mirror makes my skin look bad. Have you ever looked in the mirror at home before going out and thinking you look good, then you use a public restroom or a friend's bathroom and see yourself and think "WTF?? I look terrible!" Lighting is everything. I'm thinking about getting this mirror so you can play with the different lighting settings to make sure how your skin really looks.

Anothe thread told me about this lighted mirror. The sucker that I am just got it today. Didn't use it yet as I am in process of setting my new battle station (I know some people don't like this expression but I find it quite exact as I need it to prepare myself to tackle the day!)

u/SEXPILUS · 2 pointsr/AustralianMakeup

This mirror is apparently amazing.

I added it to my cart and the shipping was about $20 to Melbourne.

Here's a thread about it on /r/MakeupAddiction. If you scroll towards the bottom, OP has done a blush test in natural light and the natural light setting on the mirror and it looks pretty good!

u/Jenzyme84 · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I have this Jerdon Mirror and I love it. The light works well for me. It's not my only light source but in an otherwise dim room it works well.

I had the Simple Human Mirror (8" round) for about a week before it broke and never turned on again. I also found it VERY bright and personally I like having a 1X magnification option. So, for the price I ended up just returning mine when it broke rather than getting it exchanged at Bed Bath and Beyond.

I got it from Amazon, and I know Ulta has a really similar one. I really like it, but it can be a bit bright some mornings and the stand in the back makes it so it does take up more space than you think.

u/girkabob · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

I use this one because the lights are so BRIGHT. The lighting can be a bit unflattering but I prefer that over the other mirrors on the market that are too dim.

u/Draganess · 1 pointr/RandomActsofMakeup

I don't have a wall where I could put light up so instead I got this lighted mirror and I've been really happy with it.

u/zebratwat · 1 pointr/muacjdiscussion

I actually have one of these and I keep the light set halfway between daytime and office and I'm pretty pleased with it. I do my makeup at 6am when it's still dark outside.

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

I got it off of Amazon here:

I've had it for 6 months so far and I love it! The daylight setting is perfect for color accuracy.

u/alreadyincognita · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

This isn't what you asked for but, I recently bought this mirror on Amazon and I love it! It's got four different light settings. I really recommend it :)

I bought this one from Amazon and I’ve been really happy with it so far. The different light settings are very helpful.

u/dressup · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

I use this one and the light is enough with a ceiling light going. I love it.

u/ldamron · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

I LOVE my mirror. It provides a trifold mirror experience and a magnified and normal mirror as well. It shifts between daytime, home, evening, and office lightings with the shift of a switch and it even has an outlet in it for me to plug in my curling iron. It's superb. http://www.amazon.com/Jerdon-JGL9W-Tabletop-Two-Sided-Magnification/dp/B0000AFUT3/ref=sr_1_1?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1404695287&sr=1-1&keywords=jerdon+mirror

u/ecureuils · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

I actually used to own one of those old-school lighted mirrors. It was a Remington with 4 different light settings, 2 mirror magnifications and was easily adjustable in the back. Looked like this -- I think it would be perfect for you. :)

u/jaburke · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

I have this Jerdon makeup mirror for on my desk and I absolutely love it. It has a daylight setting, as well as an office, evening and home setting, which is great for when you want to see how your makeup which translate all around, especially for a nighttime going-out look.

u/shimmerdust · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

I got this [Mirror](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0000AFUT3/ref=sr_ph_1_s_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1467672167&sr=sr-1&keywords=Jerdon+Tri-Fold+Two-Sided+Lighted+Makeup+Mirror+with+5x+Magnification%2C+White+Finish
) on Amazon for $25. right now it's 30, but you can wait for the price to drop. i love it and i love that i can see all the sides to my face..really helps with applying my winged eyeliner.

u/Rufus_Reddit · 1 pointr/explainlikeimfive

It would look different. I don't know that much about makeup.

They do make stuff like this for applying makeup.

How about this

Hands down, my biggest priority right now is this desk that I want to use to set up a makeup battle station with. I have so much makeup, and I've always struggled with self-esteem so it's not much of a surprise to say that wearing makeup and making art with it gives me the biggest confidence boost I've had in years. I subscribe to MUA and I'm constantly jealous of their beautiful stations, so that's what I want!

There are other things, like this chair to go with the desk and these organizers, mirror, styling tool thingy, etc.

Basically anything to make an awesome battle station of my dreams because I'm working on losing weight and makeup makes me feel good on a daily basis while I do this big journey.
