My top recommendation for an intro is Patrick Cheng’s Radical Love. It’s a really easy to read survey of queer theology, and the best part is it has a thorough bibliography, so if you find anything else interesting, you can easily look it up. My second recommendation is Linn Tonstad’s new Queer Theology (2018). It’s less of a survey, and more of an intro from Tonstad’s perspective of what queer theology is/can be. It’s newer than Cheng’s book (2011), so it’s pretty cutting edge when it comes to contemporary queer theology, but nonetheless pretty accessible. I’d say that Tonstad is leading a “second wave” in queer theology, so she’s worth following. And finally, if you’re looking for a really classic text, Robert Shore-Goss’ Jesus Acted Up (1993) is solid. It employs liberation theology to argue for gay inclusion in the church, especially given the context of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, prior to marriage equality, and in the wake of Bowers v Hardwick, which reaffirmed the criminality of homosexuality.
