Did you get a portable one too? Like that one.

>quote from Kate Moss; "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels."

I like the quote, but I'm slightly wondering if she is talking about the 20-25 BMI range when talking about skinny?

I have a travel food scale that I keep in my lunch bag.

I use these. They fold up well, and when folded the buttons etc are covered so no risk of switching on in a bag. Only problem with them when out might be the lack of bowl/plate, but it's easy enough to use a side plate or the lid of your lunch box or whatever.

I know it does sound excessive to bring the scale with you but at one point when I was in college I felt the exact same way. I wish I would have had one to bring with me, or even measuring cups. My suggestion, besides learning to visualize how much is a cup/half cup etc, is to get a more discrete scale. Something like this. Then when your by yourself you can measure how much your school's plates and bowls weigh to be able to deduct that from the total in the future. I know it might not help if your trying to measure each ingredient on it's own and you've already made yourself a mixed plate, but say you get a bowl of broccoli or a plate full of chicken, it could be helpful.

It looks like it was made by the German design house Pro-Idee, but it looks like they aren't selling it anymore. This article (from 2009) has a link to the product page, but it seems to be dead.

But I did find another one that has a similar design, and gets decent reviews: Amazon link

Collapsible food scales like https://www.amazon.com/Joseph-40071-TriScale-Compact-Folding/dp/B0091QO41U aren't all that bulky

This is the one I have. Folds up so I can stick it in a bag and carry with me. It will also zero out with a plate or anything else on it.

I really like this scale I got at Amazon: Joseph Joseph 40071 TriScale Compact Folding Digital Kitchen Food Scale, White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0091QO41U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_yZ82DbNHXF8W9

It zeros, you can change the measurements (grams, ounces, etc) and for me, the best is that it folds up. So I can keep it in a drawer and it takes up very little space.

Get a cheap folding food scale to measure your portions, (and tell all the lookey lous that you're documenting the freshman 15 by the gram.)

Something like this would fit in your backpack:

Or this

https://www.amazon.com/Internets-Best-Accurate-Measurements-Backlight/dp/B06Y2LYTP8/

Or an "upscale" one like this:

You could give something like this a try, although I can't personally vouch for its accuracy or usability: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0091QO41U/. If you fold it up, people probably wouldn't even know it's a scale.

This might sound weird, but if you eat out a lot and want to keep an accurate log of your intake, having meals at fast food places might work for you. They tend to have comprehensive nutritional information either right on the menu (which is required by law at least in the US and Canada) or you can look it up on their web site. You might not be able to weigh the food yourself, but you can at least trust that the big chains have done their due diligence to comply with the law.

All of the ones i see being linked here are great for at home use, but i bought this one for travel/office use. it is pretty accurate and helps me make sure im not dropping the ball whenever im not eating at home.

it folds up really well, the battery lasts forever and it has several units to choose from.
