This is a good book, check it out

Tie ins are insignificant to the main story so for Batman you buy Batman Vol 1, Batman vol.2, Batman vol 3 and so on and that is the main story and all you need to read and then they have tie in books; which are easy to spot since in the description it lists what issues are in it and if they aren't all the main title then it is just tie ins and can skip them if you want. Then you have crossovers so Aquaman and Justice League crossed over for throne of Atlantis and if you look at the description for the Justice League Throne of Atlantis book then you will notice it lists Aquaman and Justice league issues because DC will usually put out a trade of the required issues to understand the story. It's one of those things that is simpler than what it seems and reading the issues including in the description goes a long way.
