I have been shaving my face for three years now, and I know the benefits of doing it very well. Because I have done this hundreds of time at this point, I do have a few pointers and do not really think that the woman in the video is using this technique well. (Sorry if I offended you Margery! It is not my intent to be rude, I just don't want any issues to arise.)

First things first, do not shave dry. Seriously. If you haven't heard of the oil cleansing method, here's your chance to learn. It's wonderful! Before I shave my face, I begin with rubbing my blend of oils on my face. (I use a mix of mineral oil and coconut oil because my face is dry. Mineral oil is 100% non-comedogenic but coconut oil is not.) I will then shave my entire face except my eyebrows wiping off the oil and hair after every stroke. If you don't feel comfortable with oil, use your moisturizer. Japanese women have been shaving their faces for a long, long time and everyone I have asked uses cold cream. If you shave dry, you will get razor burn. Maybe not at first, but once you miss a spot and have to return, you will see what I mean.

Second, because I have been doing this for so long, I have tried every razor available, and the brand she recommends (tinkle) is one of the worst, and the type (with "safety") is horrible! This is the best kind, hands down... I love them! Amazon link: http://amzn.com/B000FP3EJY

I had no idea that shaving had become so popular outside of Asia, looking through the YouTube videos on the subject. I strongly advise that you do not trust non-Asians on this technique, simply because they are novices. Here is the best video I have found. She also uses the best razors! :) YouTube link: http://youtu.be/rCxgCtD87kI

Again, I am so sorry if this comes off as rude, but I know there is a lot of bad advice out there and I just want all of you lovely ladies to be able to enjoy the benefits of this technique without all of the struggles of being a beginner. :)

So I can't wax because I am on Differin (acne treatment) so I actually shave my mustache! I use one of those little facial razors that are extremely sharp, kinda like a straight razor. In fact these are the exact ones I use.

No razor burn or ingrown hair in my experience. My little stache also doesn't grow in thick or dark like you would think. It's not even prickly when it's "stubble" it's usually as soft as it was before I started shaving. I use them on my whole face to make it smooth (I wear makeup for a living and it really helps my foundation apply smooth and evenly). Added bonus is it also exfoliates your skin by scraping off the top layer. I don't use any creams or lotions with it, just shave it down your face.

I definitely recommend it, but if you are unsure how your skin will react, I recommend testing on a patch you can cover up, like under where your "side burns" would be or under your chin. just to make sure you don't get razor burn or ingrowns or anything

I have these, which are pretty sharp and sturdy for facial hairs. It only gets worse with age. Double whammy as vision gets worse. I don't always seem the long chin ones you mention. I alteranate plucking and shaving.

No, removing vellus hair does not make it grow back thicker. You might feel a difference on your fingers just from the ends being blunt not tapered.

I use these to razor/dermaplane it away a few times a month. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FP3EJY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It makes for nice makeup application for a few days after.
