Well for starters, their releases are easily some of the most expensive DVD/BD prices in the market.

The entirely of their Kara no Kyoukai collection? The used price is $400 for seven movies, only two of which are longer than 70 minutes. Bought used. Take that in for a second.

I don't know how they get people to buy their stuff, but apparently they do.

Good thing your favorite anime is actually cheap in Aniplex standard.
My all time favorite anime movie series Kara No Kyoukai, its blu ray limited edition costed nearly $900!
My fucking computer is cheaper than that!

I think Aniplex stuff in general has always held it's value pretty well. They at least tend to take the 'Limited' thing pretty seriously. Not only that, but Bakemonogatari is an incredibly popular series so it may be worth it.

Since I missed picking up the already-imported copies of it (which were probably cheaper), I imported the Kara no Kyoukai / Garden of Sinners blu-ray collection. I paid $460 for it and an addition $25 for shipping.

Perhaps even stranger, I then decided to import Black Rock Shooter simply because it has subtitles in something like seven different languages (including English.) (It was significantly cheaper at $35 plus the $25 shipping.)

That said, I don't consider those to be my more unusual pickups. I can't remember which DVDs they were but there were a couple hentai DVDs that were kind of hard to find and I ended up ordering them from some less-heard-of sites. A couple Night Shift Nurses DVDs come to mind. I think Ari Doll was similar?

I've also recently been picking up a couple strange items. Last week I purchased an Akira VHS (even though I already have it on VHS and DVD and am planning to pick it up on Blu-ray in the near future.) That was an exercise in obtaining a legitimate copy of the older dub, though.

This week is possibly the most unusual since I decided I wanted to pick up both Unico movies. As far as I can tell, they've never been officially released on DVD (Wikipedia mentions that a company back in 2007 might have said they would but they've since disappeared.) Basically, that means I intentionally bought what are most likely bootlegs (looks like they're using modified versions of the Japanese DVD packaging?) and what I'm hoping are the old official VHS tapes. (The reason I'm doing this is because the second movie, Unico in the Island of Magic, is one of my favorite movies from my childhood.) The DVDs arrived today so I'll probably take a peek at them over lunch.

Well you can get it for just 50 pounds on DVD or you can get it for 500 pounds on Blu Ray. You could also stream it on Crunchyroll.

/u/Cloudssj43 the likelihood is pretty much 100%, but you will have to wait years and it might be really expensive.

Legal options: UK DVD limited edition (cheap if you ask me), or grossly expensive JP BD import with subtitles.

Illegal options: Kissanime (don't read the synopsis, it's full of spoilers) or [Coalgirls] with MPC player. Like others have said, VLC is not very recommended.

They'll probably come out with a $600 BD box set at some point, it'd be idiotic for them not to.

I'm not joking about the probable price point, either. The recent Kara no Kyokai blu-ray boxed set cost 55,800 yen - almost seven hundred dollars.
