I have the same issue. What has helped me is using a razor bump and ingrown hair treatment gel from Kerah Lane available on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZYYXEO6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_MdyJ2LUvaaQkL
I applied it right after my morning shower and before bed for a couple days after shaving. It works wonders.
I also use an exfoliating scrub brush in the shower.

This!!

I had the same experience as the OP a few years back but tried again ~3 months ago and it’s different this time, for a few reasons, I think:

  1. Exfoliation - I use an oatmeal body scrub before I shave and it really helps

  2. Repair - I too tried so many things and this helped more than anything I’d tried - I use it immediately after shaving/showering.

  3. Mosturizing with the right stuff. I tried a number of moisturizers but this one from Nivea really helps reduce ingrown hairs for me. I use it after the last stuff dries and every night/morning.

  4. Time & Persistence - it feels like it’s quicker/easier with fewer ingrown hairs now and that started after sticking with it for a few weeks. At first I was feeling like it was an impossible task but now it’s annoying but manageable.

  5. Laser for my back - I can’t reach so shaving would be hard.

  6. About a month ago, I purchased a home IPL system made by Braun, sold under the Gillette Venus brand. It’s too soon to tell if it will make a big impact but I think it’s thinning/slowing things a bit.

I'm losing hope. I'm 32 years old and I've had acne my whole life, but this is much different than normal acne.

I've had two dermatologists wave my concerns away. Both only suggested hair removal, but that's very expensive. My skin is very sensitive and oily. I also have very thick curly hair. This hair also happens to bless my face and certain spots get horrible ingrown hairs. I know it's not really have acne, as each eruption won't heal until the offending hair is completely removed. There's usually lymph fluids as well as solid white materials when purged. As soon as the dark hair is removed, the eruption heals up. The skin around my mouth and chin is mostly effected, but my checks also get infected ingrown hairs.

I shave my face every day (I'm a woman and the hairs are very visible on my pale skin) with a sharp executive dollarshaveclub.com razor that sit in barbacide when not in use and a shaving oil designed to guard against ingrown hairs. I dip the razor into hot water in between strokes. I can't really shave with or against the grain as the hair grows in crazy directions. I change the razor blade weekly.

I tried using Head and Shoulders, thinking maybe it was a fungal thing, but that didn't really helped. These ingrown infections come on with no rhthym or reason, so I don't think it's hormonally related, also I have had several scans and tests that cleared me of PCOS. I've also used physical exfoliation, no luck. These ingrown hairs make me look terrible and have already seriously damaged my skin. After being turned away by the doctors, I found this sub and I'm hoping you guys can help. I've followed the basic skincare list and nothing works. I'm getting married in a few months and I really don't want to look like a pizza face. Please help!

Here's a list of everything I've tried recently:Kerah Lane Razor Bump & Ingrown Hair Formula

The Ordinary Peeling Solution 30ml AHA 30% + BHA 2% (this helped briefly, but the eruptions came roaring back after a week of clear skin and it hasn't helped since)

Glycolic Facial Cleanser

Retinol Serum 2.5% with Hyaluronic Acid

LilyAna Naturals Retinol Cream Moisturizer 1

Right now I'm just washing with Bronner's soap, using Thayer's Rose Witch Hazel and finishing with a Cevera lotion. It's also not helping, but I don't know if anything ever will.

I get ingrown hairs no matter what I try it seems. I've tried multiple types of waxing, I've tried cheap razors, I've tried safety razors and straight edge with different types of shaving soaps and creams, I've tried plug in epilators, I've tried nair and such. These all give me bumps.

As far as treatment and prevention I've tried exfoliating, washing more, washing less, this https://www.amazon.com/Kerah-Lane-Razor-Ingrown-Formula/dp/B00ZYYXEO6/ref=sr_1_7_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1525358840&sr=1-7&keywords=ingrown+hair+treatment, moisturizers, aftershave and serum.

No matter what I do, everytime I remove hair I get bumps in about 7 days.
