If you're getting a knife for defense, you're better off with a fixed blade or a manual folder with a "wave" feature that allows you to open the knife as you pull it from your pocket in one quick step. It's faster than an auto that you can't open until after you remove it from your pocket.

Something like this Kershaw I just got:

You aren't gonna get much better than 8cr13mov for under 50. Especially in a good defensive blade. The Emerson wave is probably the fastest way to deploy a knife other than a fixed blade. If you want a folder I'd suggest one of these

Kershaw CQC-7K, $32 right now. I have the 6k model, same knife but with a clip point blade and it's badass. Highly recommended for EDC.

The Endura4 looks pretty good! I know this might be a stupid question but what would be the main difference between this and one of the cheaper knives like this Kershaw Emerson?

Is it steel type? Handle materials? Sharpness?

Also, what do you think of the Spyderco Resilience and Tenacious

Understandable. It took me a little bit to completely trust the hollowness of the handles. Once I actually used the knife though (cut up an apple), it felt more comfortable and sturdy. I certainly don't mind the overall light-weightedness of the knife.

You gotta code for the $15 Emerson? I'm seeing it at $30: https://www.amazon.com/Kershaw-Pocketknife-6034T-High-Performance-Stonewashed/dp/B00I0RQ0AO
