Go ahead and pull the trigger on the 32gb one. If you are really in need of more on hand non cloud based storage, check this OTG option out. Works great with my N6 and the size of it is amazing:

Use it with an app like ES File Explorer and you'll be fine.

Those are pretty neat actually. I have this one.

I agree, OTG is very under rated. Thanks for this! I use an OTG cable for my Samsung GS3 and My Nexus 7 2013. But I didn't know they had Micro USB Flash drives. Learn something new everyday.

I found this Kingston MicroUSB FlashDrive on amamzon. I'll probably purchase. It's only $13.95 for 32GB

Granted, but the cases that people are citing (e.g. movies to bring on a long flight) don't really require having it plugged in at all times. There may be other use cases for large amounts of storage that require constant connection, but I don't think they apply to many people at all. Plus, there are better options than a cable and big USB key, like this little device (which I use).

Besides, if you do need a lot of internal storage (or an SD card), there are plenty of Android phones out there that offer that. They're just not Nexus phones. Google's priorities with Nexus are obviously not about offering a ton of features. They provide good performance at a reasonable price and leave their partners to fill in the many gaps they don't.
