Definitely buy a protector then. If glasses make contact with the lens and there are bits of dirt/grit between the lenses, you're gonna get scratches.

I used these https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BUJ354I/ back before the Hyperkin ones came to market, they are wet application so in my experience are easier to apply without dust /air bubbles underneath.

I gave them a quick trim with some scissors before applying as well and now I can't even tell they are there.

Its probably better to put the protectors on the Vive rather than your glasses, as if you ever let someone else with glasses use it, their glasses wouldn't have said protectors on and would scratch your vive.

Sure. The one I got was this one upon a recommendation someone else mentioned here. I actually applied them a couple hours ago. There's no noticeable change in color or clarity. A few things to note:

  1. Even though the Index lenses are 50 mm, there's a rubber lip around it that means the accessible portion is slightly less. After trimming off the nose angle, I still had to trim about a millimeter off of about half of the remaining circle to get the film to fit. I recommending doing this while the film is still on the sheet it comes attached to. You can use the original plastic protective film as a guide.

  2. Application is messy. Make sure to follow the instructions given including wetting your fingers with the included solution. I was worried about getting liquid into the headset, but it appears to not have seeped around the rubber lip. Be very careful with where you get the solution though, and definitely don't store the headset front down for some time after (though you should never do this anyway).

  3. Supposedly, the film needs 10 hours to "fully set and heal" and "any streaks or mini bubbles you see will disappear within a few days." I was really thorough with getting those out anyway. There's some slight cloudiness when you look at the lenses from a distance that seems to have cleared some over the last couple hours, but I can't see it with the headset actually on my face which is what matters in the end, so I'm happy with them.

LENS PROTECTORS:

I bought these for my and my wife's Vives in 2016 and they still are fantastic.

I've CRaMmeD my glasses up against the lenses, wipe them with my t-shirt ALL THE TIME to scrub them clean, they still look perfect.
I will be ordering this style again once we get a confirmed lens diameter.

Please consider these.

Same, custom cut KlearKare watch lens protectors at launch. No issues and worry-free. Plan to do the same with the Index.

I have an even worse prescription than you, around -10. I wear my glasses in my Vive and it works just fine.

Just make sure you adjust the lens distance all the way back before you put it on! You can pop out a dial on each side where the strap system connects, and then turn it to bring the lenses closer and further. I didn't realize that when I first put it on, and I think I put a scratch on the inner side of one of the lenses, thankfully where it's completely invisible when wearing the headset...

If you're worried about scratching the lenses with your glasses, I ended up picking up these watchface screen protectors that fit over the lenses quite well and don't disrupt the image quality (it's a 2-pack, so you don't need to buy two packages): http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BUJ354I

I was worried about scratches as well so I bought and installed these KlearKare protectors (comes with 2) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BUJ354I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I fidgeted with it quite a bit installing them and the edges still didn't look the greatest but wearing the Vive it looks absolutely perfect and I can't tell there's a screen protector. I believe the lenses must be slightly larger than they need to be to accommodate the screen size. Oh, and don't forget you have to cut them to size. The 50mm is a misnomer; you basically get flat sheets and have to trace the lens then cut it.

i tried both of these, http://www.amazon.com/KlearKare-Invisible-Protector-Military-Protection/dp/B00BUJ354I and http://www.amazon.com/Healingshield-Watch-Protector-Guard-1-97in/dp/B00SJ22D1K after messing around with them a bit the Healingshield one works best, they both wrap around the curved lense but the klearkare is a wet application and you really have to squeegee out the water well to make it clear. IMO the healingshield works best and is much more clear, looks close or exact to the vive without any screen protection.

If you or anyone you will be demoing to wears glasses, these work great to protect the lenses. Really reduces the stress about the whole thing. My lenses got a bit scratched from a friend using them and forgetting to click the lenses farther away, and I found these from some other users link.

They do degrade the picture quality a bit, but noticing that fades quite quickly.

I tried KlearKare first. They require a wet-application which allows you to move it around a bit during application, which I thought would be helpful... this was a mistake. They are VERY soft and grippy, so they can actually snag on your glasses if your glasses touch the protector. They were also more foggy and hard to get the bubbles out of. I went with Healing Sheild and those are much smoother and easier to apply. You can look at reviews to see what size to buy for your headset. you don't necessarily need it to go ALL the way to the edges, so some people just get the largest circle that can fit on the lenses. I just cut mine down with a pair of scissors slowly and carefully until I was happy with them before applying. Put them on the Index day 1 and haven't noticed them on there since.

O thank you so much, that is a great heads up.

From the links you provided a few people suggest some screen protectors, I might give them a try. They said it doesn't affect the video quality to bad.

For the future try these! Great invisible screen protector. They work great and do not alter visibility. Just had to cut a little off to fit right.

Do these fit right on the Vive? Are they worth buying?
