I use a CD phone mount, that's the sturdiest one I've used. Obviously you need a CD player, and don't have reason to use the CD player, and then it works great. I have a iPhone 7 Plus in an Otterbox case and it fits just fine.

That's too low to be useful. You can't glance at it without taking your eyes off the road. I use a CD slot mount. It works very well and fits just about any phone.

u/illmonk · 3 pointsr/4Runner

I'm using one that mounts in the CD slot, no complaints

u/commiecat · 3 pointsr/subaru

I have this mount that sits in the CD slot. I only use it on trips and it's been fine so far. Had a Nexus 6 which barely fit and my Pixel XL fits fine.

You can orient the phone horizontal or vertical. It's easy to set up or remove. Only minor complaint is that my phone covers a bit of the infotainment screen.

Here's what I installed on my factory unit on my Mach to play tunes via my iPhone X + Spotify:

iSimple PXDX universal aux input + iSimple PXHFD3 harness for Ford + Mpow Bluetooth receiver/adapter + CD Player Phone Mount

I did upgrade the cig adapter from the Mpow unit to a double Anker unit so I can charge my phone at the same time.

All of this was super simple to install.

For some reason peripherals plugged into my cig adapter will stay powered on even if the ignition is off, so I have to plug/unplug the socket. I have to plug the lightning cable to keep my phone charged anyways, so this works seamlessly for me. Just hop in, plug in and my phone automatically connects to Bluetooth + my phone is right above my shifter for easy access/swiping.

I got this CD player mount when I got my N6, but it obviously works with my 6P, as well. It doesn't block any vents, but it might block some buttons on your dashboard, depending on your car. You can also supposedly play CD's while it's in, but I've never tried.

I got this a week ago and its pretty sweet. A gave a friend a ride with my iphone 6 plus as GPS and he complimented how awesome it looked.

Maybe combine this with a nice car/usb charger? I'm assuming he drives though. If not, I would recommend an armband for exercising? I'm assuming he exercises. If not, then your idea sounds nice!

A few things I recommend:

  1. CD Car Mount. They seem to hold the phone better than air vent mounts

  2. Power Bank

  3. Tempered Glass Screen Protector

  4. Spiggen Rugged Thin Case

  5. USB Type A to Type C for laptop/other chargers

Sure thing! I have the Koomus CD-Air.

I can't compare it to any other ones as it's the only one I've tried, but it has been working fine for me with the Rhino Shield Bumper and it's been pretty stable. It'll bounce a little bit sometimes, but not enough to really affect the readability of Google Maps/Waze navigation or anything like that. Neither the phone or the cradle have never fallen off either. There are probably cheaper ones but this one has pretty good reviews, so it's what I went with.

I have a 2016 Ford Fusion for reference. It totally disfigured my little CD dust curtain thing if you care about that. I am leasing my car and I don't really plan on ever removing the thing to play a CD, so I'm not too bothered by it.

I use this http://www.amazon.com/Koomus-CD-Universal-Smartphone-Motorola/dp/B00HRKI5V2/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1426458468&sr=8-4&keywords=phone+mount+cd

Edit: fair warning, when I used a case it was a tight fit to the point where it wasn't worth the hassle, but naked I can use it one-handed

Can't recommend this enough, been using it for almost a year, with 6P and my 6 before it. Fits my 6P with no problems, even with a case on, and its easy to stick the phone in it one-handed. Seems secure, hasn't fallen out yet, and we have some really shitty, bumpy roads around here lol.

Does your Accord have a CD player? I used one of these in my Civic:

I don't use CDs much anymore so I really liked this mount.

u/ajs2294 · 2 pointsr/technology

Exactly, with Bluetooth you don't even have to touch your phone. It can sit in your pocket. If you need GPS is easy enough to be a dock for your phone that essentially does the same thing (http://www.amazon.com/Koomus-CD-Universal-Smartphone-Motorola/dp/B00HRKI5V2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1393863763&sr=8-1&keywords=koomus+air) However, I'm glad Apple is putting something on to the market I feel like their designers will help speed up the modernization of built in head units across the board. Some cars look pretty archaic.

Your best option would probably be the holder that goes into your CD tray. Something like this or this.

u/atharluna · 1 pointr/prius

I have not tried a magnet cellphone holder. I might change it up one day, but so far this one still works pretty good since I bought it 4 years ago. It holds my phone securely and I can adjusting whichever way I want.

Check out the CD player mounts as well, I have one and with the position of the CD player in this car right above the infotainment center, it's amazing. See for yourself! (Sorry no phone in the picture because I was using it to take the picture lol) In landscape mode it doesn't cover any of the touchscreen, as you can see in the picture, besides the Pandora button, and who uses that anyway? :) Besides, there's still room under the mount to reach under and press it anyway, you just can't see it.

Also, the top part of that mount retracts and grips the phone, so even if you have a larger phone it won't cover any of the touchscreen. It's sturdy enough for the phablets too, I've used it with my Nexus 6P and it works amazingly. It does rotate around as well if you prefer the portrait mode.

Not specific for the Nexus 6P but I struggled a lot during my N4 and N5 days with suction mounts, etc and even tried the Air Dock. However one thing about the Air Dock caught my attention and it was the CD player mount.

Since then I've been using the Koomus CD mount for my phone. CDs are seldom used nowadays and the position is better. It's far easier to reach my phone if I need to quickly move the GPS a bit or whatever without having to reach to my dashboard.

With the 6P you just need to make sure it grabs the bottom half of the phone.

If you have a CD tray you don't use, get the Koomus CD mount, http://www.amazon.com/Koomus-CD-Air-Smartphone-Android-Devices/dp/B00HRKI5V2/ref=pd_sim_107_1?ie=UTF8&dpID=512x4RXhzBL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=1DYKS4K9G7CFV8KSZ81P#

the thing is great! fits my 6P with a case, grip is tight on the phone, but easily removed. it fits very securely into your cd tray, not at all worried about it falling out of a big bump or something. and it doesn't block your air vents. ;). Of course, you can't use your cd player anymore but I use AUX so it doesn't matter. I prefer these to magnet ones since no one else can use the mount in your car but you.

u/Lt_Pickle · 1 pointr/ft86

I would reccommend this one. I use it in mine and it is amazing and out of the way. Never had one problem with it.

u/apexhunter2 · 1 pointr/ft86

I use this CD slot mount. It's worked well for me and even held up on track days.

Blocks my clock but I love this mount.

Has never dropped and it swivels in every direction

u/DisconnectedChild · 1 pointr/GalaxyS7

Bear in mind that there may be differences in terms of how well one mount will fit in one car stereo, versus how it will fit in yours. (Obvious, I know, but felt I should mention it anyway).

That said, I've been using this one in my Nissan Rogue with my Galaxy S7 Edge and it's worked very well for me: https://amazon.com/Koomus-CD-Air-Smartphone-Android-Devices/dp/B00HRKI5V2?ie=UTF8&ref_=pe_1763890_145073390_tnp_emaildp_i1

It's quite easy to insert the phone into the arms of the mount, the mount has held onto the phone very well, and it's simple to remove the phone from the mount. It also leaves the power and volume buttons accessible when the phone is in the dock.

I've been very happy with it overall.

I've had this one for 4 months or so and I absolutely love it.

The pieces that actually hold the phone aren't super bulky, which I like, so it maintains a relatively stealthy visual (about as much as you can get with this type of holder anyways).

I also like that it doesn't fully cover up a vent which should be nice as it starts to get hotter in the next month or so.

u/xipseki · 1 pointr/subaru

I use a CD slot phone holder. It does not block the top display, but it does block the stereo screen. For me that is not an issue since I rarely use my stereo screen, I usually use the steering wheel controls to answer calls, change songs, increase volume, etc. Only time it is a hassle is if you want to see the rear view camera, but you could get by just going old school and use mirrors.

Side note: I have a Galaxy Note 4 with a case and this holds it very securely.

Here is the holder:

The light had just turned green, and had to wait for a good angle. But, you're right. My phone is always in the CD holster.
