I use a projector, but I get that not everybody has a projector or HDTV they can use for D&D.
Have you considered printing your map to scale, then cutting out individual rooms? You could spray the backs with repositionable adhesive so they'd stay affixed to your table, then peel them off as needed.
Search for "low tack adhesive". This was the first result I got, and it looks like it will do the trick.
Spray on Easy Tack.
Used to do alot of stenciling.
I finally got all 110 playing cards for the Red Clearance edition finished. The instructions that come with them absolutely suck. Even special non-warping glue for paper warped the cards. So here's what I settled on.
some folks are using plastic as a mask but using a tack spray "makes things sticky" found at art stores to place plastic on shirts. http://www.amazon.com/Krylon-10-25-Ounce-Repositionable-Adhesive-Spray/dp/B000A8AYO4
You can also try light spray adhesive, like Krylon Spray Tack.
I've never tried it myself, but most people use use a repositionable spray adhesive. Here's one that Krylon makes: http://www.amazon.com/Krylon-2-Ounce-Repositionable-Adhesive-Spray/dp/B000A8AYO4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1394748738&sr=8-2&keywords=removable+spray+adhesive
3M also makes one, and I'm sure a couple other companies do as well. It might leave the shirt slightly sticky right after you take it off, but any residue should come off in the wash.
