I mean, there is a world of difference between looking at a physical object in the hands of a clock and a screen that is lit from the back. To tell the time of the analog clock you only need to get a general idea of where the arms are pointing. With a digital clock you have to be able to read the digits. If you do get a digital clock that needs to be visible from a far it will have to be big (expensive) and the brightness will have to be high (more energy use).

You are free to look up prices if you would like. 14 inch analog clock for ~$22 dollars. Most digital clocks are $15-20 and no where near that size. This $28 clock is 14 inches and is radio controlled to set itself. I doubt that they make digital clocks that big for less than $30. Consider that digital clocks also come with software and other features not necessary in many situations which raise the price of the clocks. Here is a digital clock with a 7 inch display. It is $300 (from the same people with the $30 analog clock).

Digital clocks have more moving parts and include a screen (which must be lit). I think there is no reason to believe that analog clocks would use anywhere near the same amount of energy as digital clocks.

You can verify this for yourself if you want. This small digital takes 2 double A batteries and this large 18" analog takes 1 double A and even includes a thermometer and hygrometer.

We have a clock from La Crosse Technology similar to this one and it sets to the atomic clock via radio signal. For an inexpensive clock, it's pretty nice. We've had it for years and whenever I check, it always matches time.is perfectly, to the second.
