My surgery was last Tuesday so it went like this"

Day 1-2 - I feel great! I could climb a mountain...after this nap.

Day 3- 4 - I feel pretty good! I think I need another nap.

Day 5-6 - Wow, why am I so sore? Why do little things like washing my hair and changing my bandages exhaust me so much? I'm going to bed forever.

So yeah, I think I over did it in the beginning when the pain meds were still strong in my system and I think I cut back on the pain meds too soon and now I'm paying for it. I really felt invincible those first couple of days but now I'm itchy/tingly/prickly a lot. Sometimes it feels like fire ants or jellyfish are stinging me all over my chest. I'm guessing it's my nerves making new connections and waking up.

My advice: If you can, get a bidet that attaches to your existing toilet, because twisting and bending the muscles that cover your ribs can be very painful. Buy at least three bras that are a size larger than the size you're reducing to and make sure they're stretchy. My favorites are this one and this one. Sleep in a recliner the first week. Laying on your back is more uncomfortable than you'd expect. And if you're anything like me, you'll be hot for 20 minutes and then freezing for 20 minutes. You'll also feel bloated and nauseous like you never want to eat again and then 20 minutes later you'll be ravenous.

Most of the pain is under my arms where my doc did lipo and around the nipples. Be prepared, most of your boob will look normal but the nipple is a nightmare. The biggest problem I had with changing the bandages is when the tape was directly over incisions covered in surgical glue. The tape would fuse with the glue and when removed would take the glue with it which would cause pain and bleeding. So now I use very minimal tape and just use big gauze pads to cover almost my entire breast and then tiny pieces of tape just to hold it in place until I get the bra on. The compression from the bra holds the bandages to the incisions and I don't have to worry about the tape sticking to the incisions or making my skin itch (I'm allergic to most bandage glue).

I get up and walk a lap around my living room every couple of hours, eating a lot of protein (kefir, yogurt, cheese, meat, nut butters) and drinking a lot of water and cranberry juice (because you'll have a catheter and you don't want a UTI) to promote healing. All in all, it's not a terrible experience if you follow the instructions your surgeon gives you. Feel free to ask if you think of anything else.
