Hey bro. I also yoyo at EDM shows and have been doing so for about 3 years. I also spin poi and double staff. I go with the beat and people really like watching me. I've tried everything, from LED kits to glowstick kits. I've looked for fiber optic string, and unfortunately, there isn't really anything you can use for string at this time, except for blacklight string which looks awesome in a blacklight venue. I've even been asked to perform on stage a few times. I've been on the search for a perfect dark club yoyo for years.

Honestly, I got a little excited when I saw your post haha.

So yeah, I've tried it all, and here is the best setup I've found so far:

Dark Magic 2 Yellow Neon Color (I'm actually going to get the special edition clear white one soon and try that, but I have 3x DM2 yellow neons.)

Cheap LED fingerlights from Amazon

Learn 5A counterweight yoyo, and use cheap LED fingerlights from amazon. They are lighter than the dice people normally use, but you will get used to them. The LED counterweights add a new dimension, and blow peoples minds. Plus the fingerlights are very cheap and replaceable, and they use the same batteries as the shinwoo light kit. So out of a 40-pack of LED lights from amazon, ytou will have many that are defective and you can crack them open and save the batteries for your shinwoo light kit.

I know you are probably more focused on making the string stand out, but unfortunately, I hate to say this, but to the average observer, all string tricks look the same and they can't tell the difference. You will get much more positive feedback in a crowd learning 5A and using an LED counterweight. One thing I especially enjoy doing is yoyoing for a brief time normally, and then all of a sudden turning on my counterweight LED and doing 5A moves. I love the reaction people have never seen anything like it before.

I am still searching for different throws that fit the shinwoo light kit, but it is made perfectly for the dark magic 2. I use 3 dabs of hot glue to keep it on there, and no sidecaps. I get all my stuff from www.yoyoexpert.com. Buy several shinwoo light kits because they are only 5.00 for a pair and kinda disposable. You will lose one.

Here's a pic of my setup.

This might sound crazy, but I actually bought a portable battery powered wearable black light to have to make my string show up better, but that's just trying too hard and I don't bring it anywhere. I've been on this journey for awhile.

Nighttime party kit:

LED blinky rings or fingers http://www.amazon.com/LED-Finger-Lights-pcs-Generic/dp/B0045H0L1W

earplugs

piece of candy

I have no idea what else would go in there.

I like the mini cocktail in a tin plan.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, friend of midnighteskye!! Here are some gift ideas that fit your criteria:

Dark Chocolate Red Rose made with Chocolate Liquor

LED Finger Lights

Set of 10 Animal Finger Puppets or Set of 6 People Finger Puppets (both together cost only slightly more than $5)

12c Syringe-shaped Pens

Rear View Spy Glasses

Pad of Fake Parking Tickets

I'm not submitting these as part of the contest, but in case you're willing to get him a) add-ons or b) things slightly over $5, look at these:

Dark Chocolate Edible Shot Glasses - $7.94, Add-on

Dark Chocolate Liqueur Filled Bottles - $15.95

Google Eyes Drink Markers - $5.69

And if I by chance win, I would very much like this decal for my car (off my "Miscellany" wishlist). It's terribly appropriate for my bitty Scion xA!

Thanks for the contest!

For those interested in the parts:

I ordered 1 inch Polycarbonate tubing from here: http://www.tapplastics.com/product/plastics/plastic_rods_tubes_shapes/polycarbonate_tubes/276 cut into 2 four foot tubes.

Each tube has 4 of these light sticks, wrapped with packing tape for durability.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004GB5YJQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And they are capped top and bottom with finger lights: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0045H0L1W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s03?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I drilled small holes all along the tubing to lock in the light sticks with small machine screws, then drilled larger holes over the buttons so I could turn the lights on, off, and thumb through their various settings without having to remove them from the tubes.

All to avoid paying 200+ for poi sticks.

Seeyall at the burn!

FINGERLIGHTS! You can buy them in bulk on Amazon for really cheap (40 for $5.50 - http://www.amazon.com/LED-Finger-Lights-40-pcs/dp/B0045H0L1W)

They're fun to play with, hand out to make new friends, and the white ones make for useful flashlights around camp. They're pretty low quality which is why they're so cheap so there's always some duds in the bag, but you'll still get your money's worth. Amazon has a killer selection of other rave toys, and I know for a fact you can get diffraction glasses there too.

Ummm... no one could resist a tickle attack with these.

I love the smell of napalm in the morning

Depending on how much exactly you have to spend and the amount of time you have before the event maybe you could use something like these? The ones linked seem to be hit and miss according to the reviews but it might be worth looking into. You can also find these kinds of things in some dollar stores (if you're in the US). Depending on how many kids you need them for each kid could get 1 or 2 to use. You might also need to be careful since some times these can be a bit bright and it'll be dangerous if pointed directly at someones eyes (though the same could be said about any LED lights).

Just a single N Cell in the holder; there's more than enough room in the head to fit something like a finger light. I'll probably magnetize a mount for the light and the right-hand side of the head; less effort than wiring a switch down to the base, and an LED will run for dozens of hours off a few button cells.

Relevant. They come with little silicone bands for aforementioned pencil mounting.

Glowsticks aren't allowed so stash them well. Fingerlights are allowed so you can bring them without worrying about them being hidden. Fireworks glasses don't glow, but they enhance all other glow toys and stage lights.

For stocking stuffers I bought a ton of finger lights:

http://www.amazon.com/LED-Finger-Lights-40-pcs/dp/B0045H0L1W

All I did was use one of the blue ones and light painted.

I actually was going to do a more elaborate streak but it was hard enough doing that without knocking down or moving anything.

u/Franck1048 · 1 pointr/StartledCats

Maybe a bunch of Finger Lights stuck together?

u/AxiomNor · 1 pointr/MLPLounge

lots of these. No real reason why.

u/famousGOAT · 1 pointr/Gunpla

i have some of these lying around http://www.amazon.com/LED-Finger-Lights-40-pcs/dp/B0045H0L1W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1374815782&sr=8-1&keywords=led+finger+lights
was thinking of creating some sort of led mod with them basically same thing as your vid except they use 2 smaller but taller batteries as a power source... thoughts? possible? or would it be easier to create a series circuit and go 4AA battery packs like ive seen? was thinking of using my zaku 1/100 mg as a tester

These things are pretty fun. They can go in water, too. I use them for trails and just lighting scenes: Shitty Example 1

Doesn't apply to everyone, but LED drumsticks are pretty fun: Example 2

I have some awesome trails photos but apparently haven't uploaded yet.

I don't know which kind of glasses she had but these were the lights

u/NotButtHurt · 1 pointr/MDMA

Idk how much room is in your kit but head massagers are pretty great. This is 2 of them for $5.

Fireworks glasses are incredible. It's just a special lens and these glasses are just decent plastic ones. They make them on paper frames like 3D glasses too and they're pretty cheap in bulk if you want to hand them out.

Fingerlights are cool but I don't like how they die so quickly. 40 for like $12

http://www.amazon.com/LED-Finger-Lights-40-pcs/dp/B0045H0L1W/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1346343609&sr=1-1&keywords=LED+Finger+Lights+%2840+pcs%29

u/her_nibs · 1 pointr/whatisthisthing

They are not, but they remind me of, LED finger lights. If you just want things that size that light up, and don't need to blink, they're in dollar stores everywhere.

u/3no3 · 1 pointr/techsupportmacgyver

LED finger lights. Stupid cheap. That link there is 40 for less than $2.
