You might want to look into picking up Legends & Lairs: Darkness & Dread. Although it was written for D&D 3.5/d20, it presents new base classes that feel very OSR and great ideas for monsters, magic, etc. In my opinion, the biggest problem with settings like Ravenloft is that D&D wants to provide the player with a power trip fantasy that ends up ruining the horror experience. This book did a good job of showing how to avoid that trap.
