> Idk if i can get a good laptop for 400-500 bucks that can run this game at 60 fps on low-medium settings?

Here:

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834315713

Has a Nvidia GT 940MX with GDDR5 RAM. Will run Overwatch with around 60 fps on mediumish settings @768p. If you want to play on 1080p, you will have to spend a little bit more.

My best suggestion would be the Lenovo Ideapad 700 for around $600. It has some of the best specs you'll find for the price with a quad core i5-6300HQ processor, 12gb of ram, a 1TB HDD and a GTX 950M dGPU. It should allow for pretty heavy use of MATLAB and other similar software. The only problem is the trackpad is pretty mediocre, but it is still useable.

u/LonerIM2 · 3 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

I would recommend the Lenovo Ideapad 700

  • Quad core i5-6300HQ which is a great plus if you are going to play a CPU intensive game, or you are going to do other CPU intensive tasks like MatLab, AutoCAD,VMWare, audio/video editing.

  • 950M which is powerful enough for your usage.

  • 15.6 full HD IPS screen which is great screen for this price point (usually found on mid 700 laptops) and great if more than one person is going to watch a movie on the same screen as it has very good viewing angles.

  • It has a 4-in-1 card reader (SD, SDHC, SDXC, MMC)

Here is a little more in depth review :

  • The screen is matte/non reflective which should mean that it would work well outside or in well lit rooms but due to the low backlight it is not great but the IPS screen is very bright(when comparing others in the same price range) and you can take advantage of the better viewing angles to steer it away from the sun.

  • Speakers are under the screen (unlike most laptops where the speakers are under the laptop) so it sounds clear.

  • It has room for more ram and more storage (2.5 bay for hard drive and SSD).

  • Brushed aluminum lid, Trackpad has a cool feature where it automatically disabled when you are typing to prevent accidental movement, the "clicking" is a little shallow and quite so the feedback is not as firm as you might want or expect but you can get used to it.

  • It can get a little hot, but not to the point of throttling or hurting the internals, and only under intense work

The $609 Lenovo Ideapad 700 sounds like a good fit: https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-Ideapad-Notebook-Computer-i5-6300HQ/dp/B01MRTG0JF/

HQ-series CPU, more RAM than you're looking for, and a 1920x1080 IPS display (not the low quality TN kind where the contrast and viewing angles are poor).

u/elvinelmo · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

A quad core CPU is best for Photoshop an din your budget you can get the Lenovo Ideapad

  • Display: 15.6" Full HD IPS
  • Intel Core i5-6300HQ 2.3GHz
  • 12GB DDR4 RAM
  • 1TB HDD
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M 4GB
  • Backlit Keyboard
  • Bluetooth

While this system is lacking an SSD for quick boot and load time is has a powerful i5-6300HQ processor which sets it apart from the mostly U processors in this price bracket. This HQ processor is much more powerful which makes this laptop suited for gaming (the dedicated GPU aids in this greatly), video and photo editing

How about this?

u/WhitMage9001 · 2 pointsr/aggies

The Lenovo ideapad is a bit over your budget but may be what you're looking for.

To be honest you'd be hard pressed to find a laptop at those specs for $500. Just a cpu and gpu together would be half that entire price.

Thanks so much! Is there any laptop in particular you would suggest? I'm considering the Lenovo Ideapad 700. It's got 12 GB RAM, Intel Core i5-6300HQ 2.3GHz processor, and 1TB HDD. With the option of adding SSD.

Drop $10 and get this Lenovo Ideapad 700 .. You wont regret.. It beats the Acer laptops as well as the HP you have been looking at easily due to it's much more powerful quad core processor and of course, it has a more powerful graphics card in the gtx 950, you get that 12 GB RAM and it has a beautiful IPS 1080 display which beats all the options you have been considering so far..

This is the first computer that I found on Amazon, so you can probably find a better deal. Just look that it has i5-6300HQ and gtx 950m or better.

I just don't wanna spend all this money just for me to have to pay for repairs 1-2 months down the line or maybe sooner than that and have constant problems

Looking for some quick advice. just finishing up the refund process on an Ideapad 700 and am wondering if I want a replacement or my money back.

Unit was brand new, opened it up and put in the M.2 SSD, saw it was spotless inside. After opening and closing the laptop maybe six times the hinge on the right side implodes. It started making a plastic crunching sound then screws and bits of plastic started falling out the bottom. The hinge on the right side seemed to completely separate from the computer. Ive been using a completely plastic-ey $250 Asus for the past two years and havent broken that, I know I'm not ham-fisted with my electronics. I googled and couldnt find many posts related to this so should I just chalk it up to a lemon? Is lenovo build quality good?

I really liked the screens quality and it seemed to have adequate gaming preformance, do you think I should stick with the Ideapad 700 or spend an extra $200 and get something better ([this is the model I got] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MRTG0JF/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1), put a $100 SSD in it). The only thing the Ideapad 700 doesn't have that I would like is that thunderbolt 3 port some Alienware and Razer computers have for external graphics docks.

I'm adding these two parts:

This SSD and

These RAM sticks to

this laptop
tonight.

What do I need to do besides put them in?

Do I need to download any drivers before removing the HDD and attempting to do a fresh install on my SSD? Will my computer boot with those RAM sticks being brand new? (There's only two RAM slots on my MOBO)

I have my important files backed up on DropBox, along with a Ninite for the programs I'd like to start with.

I plan on fresh installing Windows 10 on the SSD, and then reformatting my HDD so it's clear, but do I need to do anything else?

Do I really need to temporarily disconnect the hard drive when performing my fresh install?

Do I need to migrate my Lenovo (D:) Drive files (it's filled with what looks like my hardware drivers, was on the computer when I bought it) myself before reformatting my HDD, or will that automatically install on the SSD? I think it's just a partition. Would I just right click-> format the Windows (C:) area and leaving the rest alone?

Lastly, I made a USB windows 10 install with media creation tool, will it automatically boot from this or do I need to change something on boot up?

Sorry for all the questions, it's been a while since I've done any builds, and I've never modified a laptop, or dealt with a SSD.

Ideapad with FHD IPS panel, 256GB ssd, 4 core cpu and gtx950

or cheaper version, with 1TB hdd, and you get to buy SSD for the price difference, and keep the HDD

I recently picked up the Acer Aspire R 15 2017 for ~$495 after tax at Bestbuy off a slickdeal that was going on. Im kind of having buyers remorse as im seeing these quadcore i5 laptops some even with dedicated GPU's (which isn't by any means necessary) but would be nice to have and I figure I could pay $100 more for quad care and potentially get some gaming out of it too I would.

Size wise I like it, im a college student but I wouldn't mind a smaller 13" laptop but still want to keep the 2-1 and touchscreen aswell as the 1080p IPS and SUPERB aluminum build quality and feel. SSD isn't an issue for me since I plan to replace it with my 250GB samsung 840 evo anyway. I still got till next-next Wednesday to decide wether to return or not and to see what else comes up. Im scared this dual core i5u processor wont hold up for the next 2-3 years which is why im looking into the quadcore lineup. Lighter would be nicer too around 3-4lbs if possible and gaming definitely isn't needed since its for college and I already have a gaming pc at home.

So a 13", 2-1 1080p IPS, quadcore i5/i7 (maybe or dual core? IDK), 8GB ram, HDD or SSD is ok (since ill be upgrading), longer battery life and nice build quality is what im looking for . Something on the lighter side. At most looking to spend $600.
Sorry for the long writeup but i've never really shopped around for a laptops until now. Also im assuming used and refurbished laptops bought on amazon come with no warranty? Also something with a nice feeling trackpad with good scrolling. Is lenovo good for these?

Also how does the Intel Core m3-6Y30 Processor compare to the i5 7200u or the like i5's?

These for portability is what ive narrowed it down too:

https://www.amazon.com/ZenBook-UX360CA-UBM1T-13-3-inch-Touchscreen-Convertible/dp/B01HZT6AR0 ($450 used)

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B01GHQOD8U/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all ($530 used newer model)

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Swift-i5-6200U-Windows-SF314-51-52W2/dp/B01LWZ7JB2 (better processor similar size $620)

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Touch-Windows-Convertible-SP513-51-55ZR/dp/B01M18YU9I (better processer $540 used)

Debating on these with GPU's:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MRTG0JF (ddr4, worse gpu than dell but seems to be better quality.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B015PYYDMQ (afraid of dell build quality)

Thanks for the reply with great advice! That laptop will run me about $640 with tax. I was curious if this laptop for only $20 more (because there's no tax) would be worth spending $20 extra dollars for. I'm actually very confused what the difference between these three are:

  1. https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-1920x1080-Performance-Anti-Glare-WLED-Backlight/dp/B06X8ZMK5Z

  2. https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-Ideapad-Notebook-Computer-i5-6300HQ/dp/B01MRTG0JF/

  3. https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-Ideapad-700-15-6-Inch-80RU00FEUS/dp/B01FJFN872

I'd be able to get #1 for $660 because there's no tax, but I was trying to find battery life reviews on it so I typed the name into amazon for more results and I couldn't decipher the results. Thank you I'll use your affiliate link btw! EDIT: Fixed the links!

Would the performance change if i buy this one instead of the one you told me to?
