Leviathan wakes starts off like this, and retains a distinctly firefly-esque feel throughout what ends up becoming more and more like han and chewie getting sucked into the rebel alliance.
absolutely love the series for its fairly good adherence to hard sci-fi space flight (apart from some acceptable advances e.g. fusion torch drives, and the plot point alien tech)
also book 2 (caliban's war) is already out, and book 3 of the triology releases this week. all available on kindle as well.
Give James S.A. Corey's Expanse Series a go, I've enjoyed them so very much:

They're Hard Sci-Fi (up to a point) but very human and a bloody good read. Leviathan Wakes is the first one, the Audio books are well done too.
