I use this with a GTX 1060 6GB, and I am very happy with it. A GTX 1080 would make it even better for that butter smooth gameplay with 144hz. It is also an IPS panel which is great.

u/StayFrosty7 · 16 pointsr/buildapcsales

144hz is a huge step up. If you don't have the money, then this is fine. But if you can drop the cash for a 144hz monitor, then I'd definitely go for it. It might even be worth it to check out a 1440p 100hz ultrawide.

Monitors to look at:

1080p 144hz TN

Ultrawide 1080p 144hz IPS

1440p 144hz TN(you might not be able to hit 144hz with all games on this one due to the resolution being so high)

EDIT: TN, not IPS

It wasn't that hard to get them close enough for me, but someone more picky might go insane trying to get it perfect. I spent my insane points on getting it to line up perfectly instead lol.

Had I planned it out, I probably would have just done 3, 34 inch screens, but in the immortal words of Bob Ross, it was a happy accident.

Heres a link to the screens I have.

I personally think that UW is good for serious gaming, as it is an advantage if 21:9 is supported, and if 21:9 is unsupported it isn't a disadvantage.

To answer your question that monitor will suffice (and curved is GOOD) but I'd highly recommend any of these monitors.

I recently got this monitor and it's great. it's 2560x1080 but you're already on 1080p so you won't notice a difference, and your 1070 will power it beautifully. 144hz, and ips as well.

You're in luck! There are several 34-35" 1080p 144hz ultrawides out there!

Examples:

LG 34UC79G-B 34-Inch 21:9 Curved UltraWide IPS Gaming Monitor with 144Hz Refresh Rate

Acer Predator Z35 35-inch Curved Full HD (2560 x 1080) NVIDIA G-Sync Display, 144Hz, 2x9w speakers, HDMI & DP

Edit 1: These are curved, will see if i can find flat panels

Edit 2: They all seem to be curved, but honestly I love a curved ultrawide. I own both a flat ultrawide and a curved ultrawide, and the curve is a must have. It's so wide that the flat panel looks distorted at the edges. The curve eliminates that distortion.

u/djrbx · 2 pointsr/Android

> curved computer screen

Speak for yourself. This is one of the best computer screens I've ever used and the curve on it makes it easier to use. (I've used both the flat and curved models)

u/Echoskull · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Yep. its broken. Get [this one] (https://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics-Ultrawide-34UC79G-B-LED-lit/dp/B01LW5CGIS) if you are getting a new one.

I strongly recommend this monitor:

https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UC79G-B-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01LW5CGIS

It's a 144hz ultrawide and if you look around you can sometimes find them for cheap

u/Crimtide · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Lowest I have seen it is $499. It was on sale on ebay a couple of weeks ago for 499 when I bought it. And on Prime day it was 499 on Amazon. Now it's back up to 549.

u/agentpower · 2 pointsr/RocketLeague

If you are going to drop the money for freesync or 144hz, consider bumping up and getting ultrawide. There was a recent post that showed the benefits of having one for RL. This is what I got. https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UC79G-B-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01LW5CGIS

u/zachchapter1 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

The only concern with an Ultrawide 1080p is your pixel density/size/DPI over an Ultrawide 1440p.. also because it seems most Ultrawides come in larger screen sizes than 16:9s. A 34" 16:9 1080p monitor is going to be pretty tall and may have larger pixels than a 34" 21:9 1080p. But... if your only debate is between 16:9 1080p and 21:9 1080p, go with 21:9, especially with the 2070. If you do anything other game 100% on your computer then you'll appreciate the extra screen real estate.

I bought this 34" 144hz LG Ultrawide 1080p - and I love it. I came from a 24" Asus 1080p 60hz, so even that was a huge upgrade for me.

https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UC79G-B-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01LW5CGIS/ref=redir_mobile_desktop?_encoding=UTF8&ref_=tsm_1_aw_swf_item_title

u/KingKoehler · 2 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

Not that I know of, but I haven't seen people complaining about motion blur with the IPS ones. The motion blur is mainly a VA problem I think. Only problem is I don't think there are any current IPS ultrawides capable of 144hz even at 1080p, and the 100hz one's are pretty expensive. Have to figure out what's most important to you..

Edit: NVM, there actually are some IPS that have 144hz, like this: https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UC79G-B-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01LW5CGIS

Only difference is it's freesync instead of gsync. But if you're consistently hitting high framerates (above 100fps or maxing out), then losing g-sync probably isn't that big of a deal anyway. If you've got an AMD card then it's obviously better actually. It's also cheaper than the BenQ since it doesn't have the g-sync tax. If you want 3440x1440 though that definitely doesn't go higher than 100hz atm.

So you just have to decide whether you want 1440p and 100hz/60hz (depending on budget), or 1080p and 144hz, then decide whether you need g-sync.

u/Erendil · 2 pointsr/Planetside

Assuming price isn't an object, I'd highly recommend these two for gaming monitors:

If you have an AMD video card: https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UC79G-B-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01LW5CGIS

If you have an NVIDIA video card: https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UC89G-B-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B0728JH3RQ

Both are 34-inch, 21:9 ratio, 2560x1080, 144Hz monitors with IPS panels. So they're large, wide, fast and gorgeous.

Trust me, once you play games on a 21:9 monitor, anything less feels like tunnel vision. 21:9 works flawlessly in PS2 and looks incredible.

Both monitors will also sync your refresh rate to your in-game framerate to minimize lag. But they are vid card brand specific. The first one will sync only with AMD vid cards, and the 2nd one will only sync w/ NVIDIA. But even without the frame sync they are extremely fast. Not quite as fast as the fastest TN panels, but VERY close.

Here's a good review of the AMD-tailored monitor so you can get a good idea of how it performs. It's what I use (I own an Nvidia card but it came out 1 year earlier than the Nvidia monitor and I couldn't wait). http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/lg_34uc79g.htm

EDIT: To answer your questions:

  • Yes, 144Hz is important, it's one of the main reasons I chose the monitor I did. It was the first 34-inch, 21:9 ratio, 2560x1080, 144Hz monitor with IPS panel. Although anything above 120Hz is "good enough" for most people.

  • Response time and input lag are both important. Read the TFTcentral review for more info on why.

  • IMO 2560x1080 is the sweet spot for gaming. You get the 21:9 ratio but the hardware requirements to run 21:9 at decent framrates is much lower than if you went with 3440x1440.

  • Panel type comes down to TN vs IPS for gaming. TN is the absolute fastest but IPS is right on its heels. And IPS panels have better colors and wider viewing angles. They just look better.

  • Nvidia G-Sync / AMD FreeSync are important since as stated above they sync your refresh rate to your in-game framerate, potentially greatly reducing your input lag.
u/stewie410 · 2 pointsr/battlestations

I've got a few ideas in mind so far, the Acer XF270U or the Acer XB271HU in mind.

The XF270U has

  • 27"
  • 1440p
  • IPS
  • 144Hz
  • 4ms response time

The XB271HU has the same specs, but with a max refresh rate of 165Hz.

There's also some "cheap-korean" monitors that come up on ebay frequently that apparently fit most of my preferences, too. LTT did a video on one such example.

From what I can tell, though, I'll have to falter on the response time...which, really, 4ms of lag is basically indistinguishable from instant for me personally. One of the games I'm super into right now will show you the amount of input lag you have at any given time when you have the FPS count visible. I've tweaked every setting I can to get that number to hover around 0ms, usually sitting at 0.1-0.5ms...but even when it used to sit at 4ms, I couldn't tell that there was a lagging in any capacity.

But uhh...I'm sure when I find whatever I want to go with, I'll post about it somewhere. I'll try to keep you informed. :P

Edit: Just found the LG 34UC79G, which ticks all the boxes, but is bigger and curved...So, there's def options out there somewhere.

I'm not OP, but I got the same monitor about 2-3 weeks ago. I paid $590 through a 3rd party on Amazon, but for Prime Day it was $499 directly from Amazon.

The lowest price is $590 3rd party now again. I'm not too bothered that I paid $40, I love it.

Great for games, especially FPS, love the ultrawide, the 144 hz. The only backdraw is really bad backlight leakage which bothers me because I watch a lot of movies on it. It's not an issue in any game except Resident Evil and other dark games.

What resolution do you plan to get that 32" in? 1080p? 1440p?

I personally have a 34" curved Ultrawide 1080p 144Hz monitor (https://www.amazon.com/d/Monitors/LG-34UC79G-B-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/B01LW5CGIS) and while I can see pixels (if I'm squinting) when I'm less than half a meter away from it, its not apparent in games and I'm usually sitting 50cm+ away from it. I have a 23.8" and a curved 27" 1440p to compare to and while both of these are crisper, I still like the huge 34" panel in games especially because of its aspect ratio.

Sure a great option to consider is the LG 34UC79G-B 34-Inch 21:9 Curved UltraWide IPS Gaming Monitor with 144Hz Refresh Rate .The FreeSync that comes with it allows you to experience seamless, fluid movement throughout hi-res, fast-paced games. FreeSync nearly eliminates tearing and stuttering that can occur because of differences between a graphic card’s frame rate and a monitor’s refresh rate. Also it has a game mode for optimal gaming conditions. There are 3 modes, 2 First-Person-Shooter modes and a RTS pre-set mode so you can choose the best mode for your games and the IPS display would be great for photography

I've been looking into some ultra wides and came to this sub to get a few questions answered if u guys don't mind.

  1. Is this monitor good for gaming and worth the price? LG 34UC79G-B 34-Inch 21:9 Curved UltraWide IPS Gaming Monitor with 144Hz Refresh Rate https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LW5CGIS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_1qzGzbTYYHQP1

  2. I've been reading about how YouTube content and some games are not supported with ultra wides. Is there any way to watch videos and play games with a true 21:9 aspect ratio?

  3. If not, would watching YouTube non-full screen be the equivalent of watching it in a 16:9 panel?

  4. Would playing games in windowed mode 1920x1080 be fine while gaming(over watch), would it be the same as 16:9 so the game wouldn't be zoomed in?

  5. Do all recent movies online support 21:9?

  6. Would u guys recommend 21:9 monitors, what are some good and bad qualities of these monitors?

    Thanks!
u/zenlighten · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

Hey, a little late to the party here, but the LG 34UC79-G, as already said, sounds perfect for you.

Even better, it recently dropped from $590 USD to $530 on Amazon!

  1. WideFullHD: basically 1080p resolution but streatched out to a 21:9 format, so its 2056 by 1080. There are ultrawides with better resolution, but if you want that coupled with high Hz you will pay a lot more.
  2. The screen that I bought a couple of month ago : https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UC79G-B-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01LW5CGIS
It used to be at 500, and I thought the price would have gone down by now .

Are you looking for 2560x1080 or 3440x1440?

But if you want 3440x1440, then it gets more complicated. First, the displays are more expensive, like https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LW5CGIS/ref=psdc_1292115011_t3_B01BMES072 (but that is an ultrawide 144Hz IPs panel, which is pretty much ideal). If can hold on until you have a slightly bigger budget I would recommend this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LW5CGIS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_NhLUBb59N8Z4B

u/blarrick · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

For those unaware, this monitor is 75hz

This is the monitor he is referring to, currently almost $600 and it's only 1080 ultrawide unfortunately, but you won't find a 1440 ultrawide over 100hz yet.

I bought one of these a few months ago: LG Ultrawide

You don't get the ultrawide benefits in OW but it's nice to have the option for games that support it.

u/4ever1der · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

if you're truly sure that you don't care about 1440p, then this is the [best option] (https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UC79G-B-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01LW5CGIS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1494961055&sr=8-3&keywords=ultrawide+gaming+monitor), g-sync is not going to be in your budget unless you fork another couple hundred over.

u/MinecraftAddict131 · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

There's this ultrawide, which I believe falls under your price point.

u/sagatman86 · 1 pointr/razer

Thanks so much for the insight. I will go with 2560x1080.

Leaning towards this LG 34UC79G-B, but I'm going to do a bit more research before I commit.

u/TheLastSnipper · 1 pointr/buildapc

Yes, looks great. Make sure to get this cheaper one. You’ll lose HDR but you get 144hz instead of 120 and it’s half the price.

Mhmm, what’s so weird about it? It’s the same ppi as a 27 inch 1080p.
https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UC79G-B-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01LW5CGIS
It was the best available here at its time, now the 950F is the same thing with the better specs

What is your budget?
https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UC79G-B-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01LW5CGIS

Just a suggestion. Note that this is a ultrawide 'FHD' @144hz.

But better go for 1 1440p@144hz and a GTX 1070. And buy later the second one.

Thoughts?

u/Texaz_RAnGEr · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

This'n rightchea. I think my comment was a little confusing. This wasn't a 1440. A 144hz UW for 315 though, I would've been all over that.

u/SushiIsLifeBro · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

Just got the monitor off Amazon for $256.

Might have to pay a bit extra, but they do make 144hz Ultrawide monitors.

D2 looks so good in ultrawide! I use an LG 1080p 144hz.

Currently mine is about $2500. Bear in mind that i slowly upgraded this computer over the years (2013-2017). I have a 4790k @4.5Ghz, a msi gtx 1080ti, 12gb of ram, and about 3tb of hdd space. The monitor is this one https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UC79G-B-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01LW5CGIS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1524244549&sr=8-3&keywords=lg+ultrawide+144hz

This or the LG 2560 x 1080 144hz?

I'm using 1070 so I don't think I can push 3440 x 1440 at 75hz.

u/inmytaxi · 1 pointr/Monitors

you could spend anywhere from $100 for a cheap 24" 1920 x 1080 to $950 or so for a 49" 3860 x 1080. There are a bunch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0755KJ56W/ref=sspa_dk_detail_0?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B0755KJ56W&pd_rd_wg=UKv1S&pd_rd_r=KT9SATDFY51XDH8AFYZ7&pd_rd_w=zRkzJ of 32" for $200 at 1920 by 1080. If you want faster refresh rates 144 hz and 2560 x 1080 can be had for $500 from time to https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UC79G-B-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01LW5CGIS/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_sims?ie=UTF8 time at 34".
