If I were you I'd look into the LG 34" UC88-B
Ultrawide is awesome for isometric games and you don't need 100-144hz for those games so you can go 75hz and get way better picture quality

34 inches, ips, 1440p, 75hz, high srgb, freesync $512

If the price is too high, look into their 29inch ultrawides!

I don't think we'll honor that student promotion. Amazon has it slightly cheaper. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01B9IDL4I/

Just did a google search and found this https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UC88-B-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01B9IDL4I

That it? If so then yeah that is on the cheaper side of ultrawides.

You can find it cheaper but Amazon is good for detailed info

Well, you have a few options. Depending on your price range, you can go with 2560x1080 which come in 25" (don't bother), 29" (sweet spot for ppi, same as 24"/25" 16:9 monitors), 34", or 35" (specifically the z35 for g-sync or xz35 for freesync). Benefit of 2560x1080 is being able to generally saturate the max refresh rate of your monitor, given the gpu you have and are going to buy. Only downside I can think of is with making such a long-term purchase as a monitor, you're "only" getting 1080p, but I don't really see that as an issue as others might. Also, most of these monitors only go up to 75hz, only the very high end cards reach any higher, and those are usually either g-sync for the acer x34 which goes to 100hz @ 1440p or the acer (x)z35 which goes to I think 144hz @ 1080p.

There are also 3440x1440 monitors and those usually only come in 34". I can't think of any other sizes, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, do you want curved or not? I don't have an ultrawide but I've been researching them for a couple years now and I think it comes down to the size of the monitor. I think 25" and 29" ultrawides are fine for being flat, since they're only so wide but once you get into 34" territory, it would be such a large screen that it is beneficial to have the curve, which is pretty much what the market really offers: no curved 25" or 29" and most, if not all, 34" are curved. The curve helps keep the same distance from each edge of the screen to your eyes the same. These do come at a higher price, though.

tl;dr Where is the best place to buy an LG 34UC88 ultrawide monitor?

I want a curved 34" IPS monitor with Freesync and about the only two games in town are the Acer XR342CK and the LG 34UC88/9. I bought the Acer from Amazon but sent it back as I was getting full screen flashes on the Windows desktop. Turns out this thing has an incompatibility with some AMD cards. Sigh.

So next I'll try the LG. I want a place with a good warranty / dead pixel return policy given my last experience, and because this monitor can sometimes be prone to image retention.

Would buy from Amazon but the LG is only available from third party sellers, so I don't get Amazon's amazing warranty. My Acer return to them was absolutely painless.

Newegg has it for a great price and in stock, but their return policy on monitors sucks pretty bad from what I have read on this sub.

Then there is NCIX. The 34UC88 is shown in stock at a not great price ($1099) and the '98 on backorder at an incredible price ($1112). They also have $60 Express Coverage that (in theory) ensures I get a perfect monitor. But the August Retailer Reviews are enough to scare anybody off of NCIX, especially back order / special order items.

No place in town has a new unit available to sell me.

So what is my best option? Right now I am thinking Memory Express. The 34UC88 is in stock for $949. Shipping is only $23 and the two year enhanced warranty (dead pixels, two way paid shipping, etc) is a pretty reasonably $100. I don't see much on Memory Express on this sub, but what I have read is good.

Suggestions?

Yup I have [this](LG 34UC88-B 34-Inch 21:9 Curved UltraWide QHD IPS Monitor with USB Quick Charge https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01B9IDL4I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Aa.yybDZ1XRM2) monitor

u/hab136 · 2 pointsr/KSPModDevelopment

I got an LG 34UC88, which has FreeSync. The non-curved LG 34UM88 is $170 cheaper; I like the curve but it's not critical. I've got a plain 20" Dell in portrait mode next to it for web browsing/spreadsheets/chatting/etc while I KSP. :)

I chose an ultrawide over a 4k monitor because there's no issues with text scaling. While the main KSP interface scales, most mod windows don't.

It's $731 on amazon https://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics-UltraWide-34UC88-B-LED-lit/dp/B01B9IDL4I

Update: My bad I meant the UC not them UM - Still a great price.

LG 34UC88-B

Price is all over the place, I paid less than $700 USD

u/polishgamer · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Thank you! The monitor is a LG 34UC88

u/mdd86 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

If you are willing to stretch your budget just a bit... I highly recommend this monitor. https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UC88-B-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01B9IDL4I/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=34uc88&qid=1555254382&s=gateway&sr=8-2

I just pick-up one myself. 3440x1440 with Gorgeous color. Plus, this is a freesynce monitor but with the recent updates on Nvidia cards it works as a G-sync monitor @75hz.

Probably the best bang for the buck with the best quality.

u/JoeyZasaa · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

Amazon has it for $699.

u/BombTheCity · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

The curved is also at Amazon for 699.

Thanks so much for your help. I just spent a few hours scrubbing through a couple retailers & sites. You were absolutely right about the 27" displays (among other things), the 4k unit was only about 12% more in price. In the end I just ordered:
21:9 34" 1440 + 16:9 27" 2160
I also got a 21:9 29" 1080 to pair up with the Dell 23" that I have, for the wife's desk.

I hadn;t intended to go all LG, the specs vs the price just worked out that way in the end. Plus I can tell Mrs. Nikuk that LG was having a year end sale...

God damn your build is going to look sick. The fans you mentioned look awesome, I'm also considering them down the road when I have more money. I'd love to see it fully built and you should post that on here when you're done. Best of luck! I'm still so stuck on 960 vs 850 myself, and ordering tomorrow but can't build for 2 weeks :(

Edit: also going to throw this monitor in because you changed to IPS: https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UC88-B-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01B9IDL4I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1492909662&sr=8-1&keywords=lg+34+in+curved (US amazon link). It's not great for gaming from what I've seen, but fucking gorgeous. I saw it in person today actually, and absolutely fell in love with the curved 1440p. But again, you're giving up a lot for that curve.

u/digitalgoodtime · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

There is the a curved version of this monitor (LG34UC88) with Freesync and 5ms response time. I own it..AMA.

On sale at Amazong for $549 link

u/lexacron · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

If you're happy with 60Hz, you can get 2 x 1440p 16:9 for the roughly the same price as a 1440p 21:9.

u/Spacechicken82 · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

If you upgrade GPU's every year, you might as well go with the higher resolution now. The 1070 can already handle the 3440x1440, but you may just need to lower the video settings from Ultra to High or possibly High/Medium mix depending on the game you're playing. Plus, having the extra screen space outside of gaming is nice to have.

For the price point you're looking at, these are worth considering:

Dell 3417W - 75Hz OC

LG 34UC88 - 75Hz OC

Acer XR342CK - 75Hz

Another one worth considering that offers 144hz @ 2560x1440 and 100Hz @ 3440x1440 is the relatively unknown Microboard M340CLZ brand found here. Some people swear by it on here but I have not tried it out myself.

Finally, there are at least a couple more 3440x1440 100Hz monitors due for release in a few months. One is the ASUS MX34VQ and another is the AG352UCG.

Good luck and welcome to the UWMS!

Monitors like the X34 allow for overclocking very simply out of the box - just select a frequency in the monitor's on screen display.

The Philips does not do this. Might be possible with other software in Windows, but I wouldn't expect it to be likely to work.

Wikipedia notes a little computation for scanning frequency vs. refresh rate here in terms of CRTs - specifically talking about the calculation using the horizontal scanning frequency - sure it works a bit different now, but... I think it still applies?

Using the info from Philips' site, I get about 65Hz as the max possible, and having one at work, I know the display itself only identifies as being capable of 60Hz.

If I were you, I'd consider this LG monitor instead for 60Hz, or one of the Acer models for 75Hz or 100Hz.

u/warrengbrn · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

There is another option... https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UC88-B-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01B9IDL4I/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1468374944&sr=1-1&keywords=34uc88

Not sure why the sudden price hike but it sits around $750 most of the time. Its got freesync and 75hz.

But you'd have to cross over to team red ;)

u/edhells · 1 pointr/Amd

For the ones who like it a bit more curved, the LG 34UC88 (98 if you need thunderbolt) is the way to go. All other specs are pretty much the same, for a slightly lower pricetag.

u/kylesatwork · 1 pointr/techsupport

You're gonna want to pick up 3 of these, https://www.amazon.ca/LG-34UC88-34-Inch-Led-Lit-14700510/dp/B01B9IDL4I and expense them of course.

Watch the video on the amazon page. It shows a guy with two of them side by side.

What is the difference between these two monitors, besides the fact that the LG 34UC88-B is curved?
