Something like this. What you used is more of like an ink. This type of marker dispenses an opaque acrylic paint.
I wouldn't recommend sharpie for the line work. When the light catches sharpie it gives off a weird sheen instead of a matt black and can offset the painting. An Acrylic Pen will do a much neater job and match the rest of the paint.
Yeah, acrylic dries really quick so it doesn't take too much time. Make sure you paint in good lighting so you can apply the paint evenly.
