He's passive aggressively punishing you. The only road is to call him out on it every single time calmly and then enforce boundaries for his inaction or passive punishment.
With PA expressions of anger, they will push so YOU have the angry response that they cannot or will not have. Then they can blame you for it.
As for having these patterns entrenched from birth? Sure. He's probably used these methods to cope with angry or powerless feelings since childhood. Doesn't mean you have to put up with it though.
