I use this one. It uses a landline and you program the numbers you want it to dial. It's setting are dial 911, or dial a list of 4 numbers, or dial 4 numbers and if you don't get a response dial 911. They also sell wall buttons. I prefer these and have one by the bed, at the desk my S.O. Sits at the most and in the bathroom. It's set to call me twice, and if I don't answer call a friend twice and if there is no answer there, it will call 911. I like it because it works as a speakerphone and we can talk back and forth. When it first calls me it lets him speak for a min and then a voice comes on that says something like "this is an emergency call dial 5 to connect". This is how the phone knows it connected to a human instead of voicemail. You dial 5 and then you can talk freely. The pendant is muffled if it is under a thick shirt or sweater. I still have him wear it but the wall buttons are what he uses most of the time. He uses it for everything from "I'm scared and don't know what is happening" to I need a drink. While he is no longer left alone it allowed him and me more freedom when he could be left alone. No we use it as more of an intercom, I could change to a true intercom system but he can use this so I don't want to rock the boat. It also allows me to make the occasional trip to the corner store without great fear of the repercussions.
Also unlike life alert etc there is no monthly fee.
