I don't think it's important to make a big deal about this, especially given that they acknowledged the bigger GFWL problem. As others have said, Dark Souls is a game that is very clearly designed for a controller. And if you're a PC gamer in 2012 and don't have a cheap $15 USB gamepad for playing the countless games that come out that play better with a gamepad, well, maybe it's time to get one.

Games like Indigo Prophecy and GTA3/Vice City/San Andreas don't support the X360 Controller properly. The standard for when they came out was the Logitech Dual Action: <http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Dual-Action-Game-Pad/dp/B0000ALFCI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1279370805&sr=8-1>

GTA Vice City & San Andreas also have little companion apps for "Advanced Control" that allow you to properly remap the buttons (the game itself doesn't support any gamepad I've ever used properly).
San Andreas and Vice City

Please note, the San Andreas version app won't work with the Steam version (v3.0) since Rockstar was nice enough to lock down the exe and make it panic quit if any other executable tries to hook it.

If you get the Dual Action, you can also check out the X360CE, which allows you to fake having a legit 360 controller: <http://code.google.com/p/x360ce/>

I have three of these and they are fantastic and the price can't be beaten.

I have one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Dual-Action-Game-Pad/dp/B0000ALFCI

Not made any more, unfortunately.

You mean something like this? or this?

Actually no, it has to do with how the input works. This controller is likely the type most of japan has which use direct input rather than X-input, so it can only assign numbers to the buttons rather than a simple face designation.

I actually played a lot the translated version of Cave Story with those kinds of controllers.

I use this. For the price, it works great. You just plug it into a USB port, select it in Project 64's controller configuration, map out your buttons and you're good to go. The only issue I have with it is that the four main directional buttons (not the d-pad, but the four buttons on the left side) are a bit too sensitive. I'm sure there's some fix out there, but I've been too lazy to find it.

Good luck!

Adding another code to the pile.

Also, link to Amazon reviews which confirm the replies seen here that the analog sticks are both poorly designed and poorly manufactured. This results in malfunction after a few weeks or months. There's plenty of games that don't need the analog sticks though, including most emulators.

This is the one that I use, there's an even less expensive one that doesn't have the analog sticks, or if you're looking to go fancier they have wireless/rumble options as well. I say all of them will do the job for SNES.

As for netplay, I've had the best experience using ZSNES, but the latest version doesn't support it, you'll have to grab v1.41 off their downloads page. Hope this all helps.

The F310 is the model after mine, The one I have is this, I don't think it has Logitech support any longer:

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Dual-Action-Game-Pad/dp/B0000ALFCIhttp://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Dual-Action-Game-Pad/dp/B0000ALFCI

I'm going to be pretty pissed if I have to buy another joypad just to get newer games to recognize my joypad.

u/pezdeath · 1 pointr/gaming

yes that will work fine. When you go to map the controls, you will pretty much have to map it like a gamecube controller (c buttons to right stick and z to one of the bumpers)

You could go with a cheaper controller if you want to save money: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Dual-Action-Game-Pad/dp/B0000ALFCI/

This is what I use, I have had it for 4 years and it's held up pretty well. Or you can buy a cheap one. I can't vouch for the quality.
