I wouldn't call it perfect close but no cigar. Still doesn't feel right in the hand the way an xbox controller does.

My favorite PS2 controller was this one http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-PlayStation-2-Cordless-Action-Controller/dp/B0001VNNE8

That was the perfect PlayStation controllers I think.

Back in the day I had a wireless PS2 controller made by Logitech. That thing felt fantastic. It even outlasted the PS2 itself somehow. The PS3 controller actually felt like a downgrade.

Edit: I found it

The only 3rd-party controllers I have ever liked have been these logitech PS2 controllers. So freaking sweet.

The best wireless Playstation 2 Controller hands down is Logitech's entry.

Look for one of these wireless Logitech controllers. Fantastic controller and no cords. Just make sure it includes the receiver that plugs into the controller port.

if you can get the Logitech Wireless controller for cheap, I'd get that one. Mine, which I've had since the PS2 days still works great.

The Logitech Cordless Action Controller for PS2 is the best one that I have used.

I got one of [this](Logitech PlayStation 2 Cordless Action Controller https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0001VNNE8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_cMpGzbEK1NH3S) last year for $20, used but in pretty good condition. The controller is super comfortable and the batteries (AA) last for a very long time.

Make sure it states that it comes with the receiver in the description before ordering.

I had this about a decade or so ago and it was amazing. Expensive to find now:

This one:

And I don't think there's a wireless controller for the N64 yet

Don't buy cheap replacements because they break more easily and generally don't last as long.

I recommend getting an official replacement manufactured by Sony themselves, but if you're feeling venturous and are considering going off-brand, try the Logitech G-X2D11. (Not recommended for fighting games mainly because of the d-pad)

I'm not exactly sure, but think these would work as well: https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-PlayStation-2-Cordless-Action-Controller/dp/B0001VNNE8

Third-party controllers tend to blow ass. The only good one I can think of is this.

Not all 3rd party controllers suck. I bought a logitech ps2 controller back in 2005, it's still going strong and is one of my favorite controllers; it's the 1st player controller.

Best third-party controller ever: Logitech PS2 Cordless Controller http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-PlayStation-2-Cordless-Action-Controller/dp/B0001VNNE8

You know what modern day controller is excellent? The Logitech Cordless Action Controller for the PS2 and original Xbox. It had the most comfortable vibration and ergonomics I have come across. On top of that, the battery life was extremely long (I could easily get 100+ hours of gameplay out of a pair) and the wireless worked flawlessly.

If you are a PS2 or original Xbox aficionado these are must have periphs.

Edit: Apparently I am not the only one who thinks so, their prices have actually GONE UP since they were released. I'm glad I snagged a couple used ones from Gamestop back in the day when they were selling for about $15. If you buy a used one make sure it has the receiver with it or it will not work!

I would definitely recommend this if it weren't so pricey nowadays.

This became my daily driver back in the day when I had my PS2 across the room from my bed and was scared to have it fall in the floor from pulling the controller too far back.

It's only the best controller of all time:

It was wireless while the DS2 wasn't. Better construction quality, longer lifetime, buttons responded quicker and better made analog stick. Also an opinion, but better ergonomics.
