Not at all, go for it!

The stand-up desk is a Kangaroo Elite. The monitors are a couple of Dell E2211H's, with one obviously flipped portrait. (current model is the E2213H)

The utterly beautiful thing about this dock, is that I unplug it from the usb, the monitors turn off. Plug it back in, BAM they're back, in their proper positioning and everything. Only bummer is having to move the apps back to the screen you want, unless there's a trick I haven't found.

A new nifty thing I've found today, likely with the 8.1 upgrade, is the Start Screen will stay in place while you work on other monitors, even with a Metro app open on one of them. This makes it a little more compelling to use the Live Tiles at a "glance-and-go". We'll see.

End of the day, unplug and into its case it goes, along with Type Cover. Come in in the morning, plug it up, BAM. Roll on.

I've had my Surface Pro 1 since launch. The powder coat paint tends to flake off with use. This has been true of about any device I've had with similar paint. Mine has really started to come off around the stand hinges and power port from much use. I ended up just getting this case and not worrying about it much. One day I'll get bored and flake off all the paint. The metal underneath looks pretty nice.

I have a Surface Pro 2, and the second, lower level that the kickstand can go to is pretty good for using on your lap. Can't speak for the first gen surfaces though.

Alternatively, I have this case which takes the kickstand out of the equation completely and allows you many more options when it comes to angling the screen. I love it.

I too bought this case. The multiple angles are great, and makes it much easier to use on your lap.

But I have to say that I'm concerned about running cpu intensive programs in this case because it makes cooling less efficient.

I have one of these cases on my Surface Pro 2 and it has worked very well for me when lying down.

This one might work for your purposes. It encases the back and incorporates its own stand which is adjustable. It doesn't cover up any ports, and comes with a loop to hold the pen. I love it for my Pro. The only complaint I have is that you have to remove the keyboard in order to fold it completely flat while open. It will still fold closed with the keyboard attached though. Still better than anything I've found.

I have this. It works really well and adjusts to pretty much any angle. Freedom-case seems to be the go-to option around here, but I have had no problems with mine and it's cheaper and ships faster.

In all seriousness, just be alerted to overheating issues. If you're concerned about breaking the surface, you may want to consider a different container to carry it about in until it's ready to be deployed.

Thus far I have ordered the following:

Type Cover 2

screen protector

64gb mem card

extra power supply so I can leave one at work

extra pen in case i lose it

This portfolio cover

usb 3.0 hub for travel (I already have a usb dock for work)

This is the one that I have. I believe they have an updated one with a holder for the pen and a larger opening at the bottom.

Logitech has some really nice ones on amazon. They range from $20 to $80. I've heard that the best one is the K810 that has back lighting. However, even their $20 ones I've heard type extremely well. I plan on reading more reviews. While the K810 is nice, for me, I'd rather get a nice mechanical gaming keyboard for that price.

As for the case, http://www.amazon.com/Manvex-Microsoft-COMPATIBLE-Keyboards-Multiple/dp/B00BYTGLFY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1396737371&sr=8-1&keywords=surface+pro+2+case was a nice looking one to me because of the stylus holder. Seemed convenient to me. There's another one that is more than half the price, but some people had fitting issues in the reviews. http://www.amazon.com/Premium-Microsoft-Surface-Windows-Version/dp/B00BVGF6QU/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1396737413&sr=8-6&keywords=surface+pro+2+case. I'm debating on what to get right now as well, so if you find something interesting let me know!

The only one I know of is this: http://www.amazon.com/Manvex-Leather-Case-Microsoft-Surface/dp/B00BYTGLFY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1408247908&sr=8-2&keywords=surface+pro+2+case

I bought that one a while ago, but I had an issue with it due to the positions of the magnets (they've since fixed it). The magnets were located such that the type cover would stop functioning which was very frustrating.

From what I remember, it added several positions and was much easier to find the position you wanted than this Freedom Case since it just slid from one to the other.

p.s. I just noticed that the amazon link has the word BOOBY in it ;)

I use this one: http://www.amazon.com/Manvex-Leather-Case-Microsoft-Surface/dp/B00BYTGLFY

I don't keep it on 24-7 but if I'm taking the surface out of the house I put it on for protection.
