If you thought that was interesting in a corporate hell hole kinda way, I highly recommend reading Married to The Mouse to learn more about how Walt Disney lied to the Florida legislature in the mid-late 70s in order to buy up the land at a lower price than the state would've sold for Disney World by saying he wanted to build what he called the Silicon Valley of the East Coast - a planned high tech city that was to be called EPCOT - but instead he built Disney World. And the crucial part of the sale was that Disney was buying this land up to incorporate it into a town which meant that they could legally petition for tax dollars to build out their infrastructure. They were taking so much state money that Orange and Seminole Counties took Disney to court in the early 80s (I believe it was) because they were losing out on state funding that was going to Disney to upgrade their hotel utility infrastructure.

I fucking hate Disney.

So basically what you're saying is that

  1. you do have a major homelessness problem;

  2. you do have a major child abuse problem (I would know--I've been cleaning up that mess for the past 10 years and have devoted most of my career to helping needy children and families in Orlando, so please, before anyone says I fucking hate everyone and everything here, consider that). Florida is ranked third in the nation for child abuse reports behind California and Texas. That's from the US Department of Health and Human Services, not me. And here's another tidbit: http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2009-05-31/news/severe_1_abuse-identity-father

  3. I never said "there's nothing here but I-Drive". Look at my post history. I just recommended Bikkuri Sushi to someone. I know there are good places here. I never said that there weren't. I said it's a city that has the potential to be way more than it is and is cut off at the knees by its administrators who care more about maintaining tourism than caring for the people who actually live here. Don't you agree with that? And why is that such a horrendous thing for me to say? You all want to get butt hurt and act like a bunch of frigging animals and call me a piece of shit for stating facts?

  4. I've tried plenty to "integrate" myself. And I've partially succeeded. I like a lot of places here. The climate, poor organization, widespread commercialism that drowns out individuality, and the road systems are not my cup of tea, but I don't think I deserve to be called a "cunt" and a "bitch" for that. Why am I not allowed to say I don't like it here and that this town can be better than what it is?

    Maybe my perspective is so much more different because I've been working in the trenches here for the last six years. I know the problems in this town intimately. I'm one of the ones who speaks out to try to fix them and I am on the front lines with the people who are hurting. I'm not asking for a gold star; I just want you to understand that I see a very, very different side to this city, and it is a very ugly one. I'm not making some blanket statement about the average citizen here; I'm criticizing the people who run this place.

    So don't tell me I don't give a shit. I guarantee you that I have spent more time, energy, and heartache on this town than most of the people who are calling me names. I give a ton of shits about people a lot of you (not you, but some of you) probably spit on and call filth. Excuse me if I'm pissed off that your mayor and Rick Scott and Marco Rubio consider it more of a priority to shell out millions of taxpayer's dollars to import a soccer player than to fund social programs like the ones you've mentioned. Excuse me that it makes my blood boil to hear a bunch of little big-fish-small-pond shits in Winter Park laugh about all the "niglets in Crime Hills" (that's a direct quote, by the way) and swing their last-season Coach bag as if they shit pure gold. The ego in this town is fucking laughable and there are kids suffering because of it.

    You're absolutely right. I'm just a cunt who just likes to shit on everyone's good time and I don't give two fucks about this city.

    That last part is actually right. I don't give two fucks about this poorly organized, tourist trap, chain-restaurant ridden city. I do give a tremendous amount of fucks about people living and suffering here, of which there are many. While a lot of you are sticking your heads in the sand and chanting "Orlando FUCK YEAH", I'm out actively trying to improve it.

    But I bet he or she is just a miserable piece of shit cunt that should die, too.
