Sounds like you might like Ben Bova's Planet Series (Mars, Jupiter, Venus). Good stuff, and the science is all very grounded. They are not really connected in any way, just thought of as a series due to the titles and him intentionally working his way through the solar system planet by planet. You also might like Eater by Benford.

Reminds me of Mars: by Ben Bova every time I see this.

Might I suggest Mars by Ben Bova, The Gunslinger By Stephen King, The Plague Of The Dead by Z.A. Recht, Neuromancer by William Gibson and Demon Haunted World by Carl Sagan. I wanted to keep going, but I was getting too excited recommending books.

1.) There could be, there is just so much about Mars we do not know. Ever since I read the book "Mars" by Ben Bova, where he puts forth the theory that the anicent martian race lived in cliff villages similar to Mesa Verda, I have always wanted to see if it is true. I mean Valles Marineris is freakin huge, who knows what is there. As well, some of the other canyons on mars have been thought to be formed by some type of flowing liquid. So it is possible IF there was flowing water/liquid of some sort on Mars at some time, maybe they built in the cliffs to be near it. IDK, It is just so exciting!

2.) I will concede that point, but the pictures that OP posted makes it seem the archway is fairly visible. There doesn't seem to be any excavation around that area.

EDIT: FFS does nobody understand the word "THEORY"

>Theory: noun - a supposition or a system of ideas intended to explain something, especially one based on general principles independent of the thing to be explained.
>Theory: noun - an idea used to account for a situation or justify a course of action.

Also, for those who are saying it's Science Fiction. Science Fiction is just a precursor of Science Fact. Over the last 50 years, how many things have we read about in SciFi that has become real? Just do a google search and you will see lists after lists of ideas that were first thought of in SciFi that has become real.

>“Science fiction is the most important literature in the history of the world, because it's the history of ideas, the history of our civilization birthing itself. ...Science fiction is central to everything we've ever done, and people who make fun of science fiction writers don't know what they're talking about.” ~Ray Bardbury
