Something that helped me was this book: Mars and Venus Starting Over: A Practical Guide for Finding Love Again After a Painful Breakup, Divorce, or the Loss of a Loved One.

Its a little cheesy / more touchy feely than I'm used to... but the main points are good - and have been brought up by my psychologist as well, so I trust it more.

The quick & dirty is: if you don't allow yourself to grieve fully, you'll be stuck in anger / anxiety for a long time. Sounds like by moving away you maybe avoided some feelings in the moment (can't blame you!) - you might need to process things more fully to get back to your normal self.

Give it a try. Audiobook was good for me. Audible gives you a free 1st book if you aren't a member.

Good luck!

I'm so sorry for your loss, my thoughts and feelings are with you.

You have two tasks to handle right now, a practical one and an emotional one. They depend on each other so start dealing with both and they will feed each other (this is basic psychology).

There's been plenty of practical tips in the thread so this is a short one about your emotions.

Start dealing with your grief today! Grief is the key to short- and long term health. Grieving will let you breathe again. It will help you think straight and act responsibly. It will make you smile and laugh again, it will allow you to love and care for other people again. Grief will end your fear.

Schedule time with your friends and your parents friends. Ask them for memories of your parents, good and bad, it will be emotional but thats the point, letting stuff out that needs to come out.
There's a good book for this, cheesy but effective. It's called "Mars and Venus Starting Over" by John Gray. It's a quick read.

Hope this helps.

This is awesome advice. There's nothing like meeting new friends! I would also suggest you check out Mars and Venus Starting Over by John Gray. It has helped me work through my feelings, both positive and negative, to get me to a place where I can remember them and feel them without it ruining my day. My best friend recommended it to me after I went through an awful breakup several years back and it was my saving grace. It helped me remember the good things, forgive her and forgive myself for the bad things that happened, and most incredibly, it helped me find peace. PM me if I can answer any questions about my experience with the book.

You have the strength in your heart to get through this and like bluehoursky said, you will love again!
