Skills. It's all about skills and confidence.

First you want to figure out what kind of badass you want to be.
Badass fighter?
Badass Hacker?
Badass guitarist?

Once you figure out what kind of badass you want to be, you need to start learning the skill set of the badass. Take time everyday to teach yourself random aspects of your badass field of choice. For instance a guitarist might spend one day learning a song in one tuning, only to tune his guitar to DADGAD and relearn the old song just so he could have the skill and knowing of how to play the same song in different ways.

Now specialty badass' are badass, but you can also be the "all around" badass. The "all around" badass has to spend time learning every possible skill set that can impress women and men. Riding choppers, getting a pilots license, learning to ride a unicycle, learning a foreign language, working out, learning a musical instrument, having a basic understanding of many topics, and confidence.

Now books and the internet are the wannabe badass' best friend. For instance, if you pickup the ASVAB training book, you can learn the basics of electronics, chemicals, and mechanics that can help you appear like a badass if you ever need to use your newly formed skill sets in front of the poor non-badass people. You can also read books on body language and conversations so that you can not only appear like a badass, but talk like one to.

It takes a lot to be a badass, but it's all about improving your own character into a badass form of itself through tough learning and practice. Good luck.

It would help to know what trade you are applying for.
I've taken both the CFAT and the British Psychometric test for the Royal Marines and scored highly on both.

After re-learning all the basic math skills, the math part became my strongest area, I'm not going to say dont worry about that area because I don't know what you might be applying for, but it is a lot easier than you think it might be.

Surprisingly I though I scored the lowest in the spacial area, even though I always though of myself as being particular skilled in that area the test showed otherwise. It might be worth a brush up in that section for you regardless of how strong you might think you are.
To be honest the first part with the words was probably the hardest, but you can typically guess fairly easily. (I probably only recognized 1 word in the whole section =P, but still scored fairly well).

I used this book as a study guide. It might be to late for you to give it a read, but for any other redditors that come across this it is the only book you will need to ace the test. One part in it really breaks down the English language, which would have made the first part of the CFAT lot easier if I had bothered studying it.

Ha, no problem! I'm actually getting this study guide so hopefully I do well.

I picked up a study guide from the store, but I grabbed this one. I doubt it really matters. As long as you have a pretty solid math/english foundation, you'll be fine. You probably just need to brush up on some formulas. Personally, I just used it for the non-AFQT sections (electronics, etc.)

I figure studying was worth it. Even without studying, I would have scored high enough to qualify for everything just the same; it was just a point of doing the best I could. Good luck.
