I would suggest Hyrule Historia over Legend of the Hero. Hyrule Historia is an official Nintendo product with their art and whatnot included. The other book appears to be more of a fan thing; I am not familiar with it. The downside to Hyrule Historia is it's a bit of a promotional product released prior to Skyward Sword, so it's sort of heavy on the Skyward Sword content.
If he wants a cool display piece, I know many people like the various Zelda figma action figures. They are good quality and well made, in my opinion.
Other than that, Etsy has Zelda items. You are almost certainly safe to order something custom on there and know your friend doesn't own it yet.

This figure looks cool! I'm not really into the Zelda series, but Minish Cap kicked ass. I appreciate how the painting form isn't some bullshit pre-order exclusive even though they get away with this shit
Also, the bass-boosted "SWIVEL HERE" killed me in real life
