I got my case yesterday. It's a maxboost case and looks similar to the spigen. It is a very thin case so drip prtection probably wont be that great but it looks and feels great so I'm not too worried. Not making an excuse for the poor design choice by Samsung or anything, but a good case that distinguishes the buttons from one another solves that problem fairly easily and cheaply. I use this one and it does the trick. I can easily feel whether I'm touching the volume rocker or the bixby button because they're very clearly separated.
Sidenote: Drop protection is surprisingly good too. Yesterday my S8+ fell from the mount on the handlebars of my bike, smacked off the asphalt, and I ran over it with my rear wheel going about 15 mph.

It was this stupid ass case. So pissed. It even has that bump up top n bottom so nothing hits the screen.

I've got this case and find that it works rather well. It fits fine with a screen protector, is very minimalist and doesn't add much bulk to the phone and looks pretty sleek.
The s8+ feels great in the hand, especially coming from a Note 3. I would say I'm on the smaller side for how big a male hand is, but it's much easier to grip around the phone, even with a case on. I'm currently using this case: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XS66SFG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and even with it on, it's still significantly thinner than the Note 3. And I don't have to worry about the metal edges getting damaged. I'm careful where I put the screen though. Also, with the case, it makes finding the finger print easier.
While it is a fair amount taller, I actually prefer it. The screen is gorgeous and makes up for the height. I watched a review recently where they said the regular s8, with it's curved edges, gives little amount of flat screen real estate, compared to the plus. Because of this, you're seeing a lot more glare on the screen. I can see where they are coming from, but to each their own.

It worked perfectly. It didn't mess with the protector. The protector doesn't go all the way to the egde, it is maybe a millimeter short. Therefore, there is the smallest gap between the case and the protector. I'm super pleased.
