I use these as well. One clipped to the top of a door, and the other underneath a curtain rail. I was really happy I found these because my apartment doesnt have the space for a tripod, and I wasn't looking forward to setting up those stripper poles that others have mentioned. Have you looked at using clamps that attach to the shelf? Something like this will help.
A heavy bookshelf is actually a decent non-drilling mounting solution. Buy some shelf clips similar to these.
