Microsoft made a USB adapter for that reason. So you can still use it just gotta get your hands on the adapter. They were giving them out free to people who had a kinect but i'm not sure it they are still free.

The question of where to buy still applies I guess. Looks like you can buy the necessary bits on Amazon, and they're...surprisingly cheap...

You need the Kinect Adapter and a lot of spare USB3 bandwidth.
I didn't realize the Kinect had come down so low in price. I might pick up a 2nd unit.
Buy the adapter, amazon Canada has them and should ship internationally. I got mine from them for 30$ Canadian but that sale has been over for few days now.

They removed the proprietary port in favor of more USB ports. Going forward, devices like Kinect apparently won't use simple, keyed ports anymore and will just use standards (even if that means separating power or using two USB ports for instance).
The Kinect will officially have a converter for USB 3.x that also allows people to use it on PC. Pretty nifty, and though less wieldy it's my preferred option as I've bought a Kinect for PC already for development.
