I picked up a Sidewinder with the two thumb buttons above and below each other. I'm very happy with it. I don't even need a mouse pad on my shiny-wood desk. Link to Amazon.

I got it on sale, though. The more budget model, the X5, I think is the same thing without the little LCD display, which is worthless in my opinion. You can find the X5 for like 25 bucks Amazon again

I keep it at the middle DPI (800 I think?) but bumping it up to whatever the highest one was (2100?) is really helpful on things like mining in Mass Effect 2. I think it also has some pre-made macro you can assign to a button that makes you spin around 180. I haven't used it because I have all the buttons mapped to something else, but I could see the appeal to prevent backstabs in TF2.

I use the MS Sidewinder X5. I've had mine for about two years, I love it.

It has weights that you can swap out, the spare weights are stored in a little box that also holds a spare set of mouse feet. In that same box there is a channel to run your mouse cable through. I have the heaviest weights in mine and it feels great.

It has two thumb buttons and three programable buttons on top to set DPI on the fly. I have mine set to 2000 dpi, 1600 dpi and 800 dpi, it's really handy.

It's on sale on amazon right now (link above) for $35.50 (reg 79.99). I also had an old wireless Logitech MX1000 which was great (recharged by resting in a cradle) and the Logitech G7 (had two batteries, one goes in mouse, other goes in hub to charge - really fast to swap batteries when the one in mouse died). I'd recommend either of these as well.

Not quite a mousepad, but I have a Microsoft Sidewinder as my gaming mouse. It comes with adjustable dpi, weights, and different pads to put on the bottom of the mouse to adjust for friction. So instead of looking for a friction mouse pad (which maybe you could try flipping a mouse pad over to see if that'll work, since it's not 100% resistant), try changing the pads on the bottom. link to the bottom of the Sidewinder and the Sidewinder description

I have unnaturally huge hands and I haven't really liked any mice except the Microsoft Sidewinder. If you don't have big hands, though, I couldn't recommend it.

I highly recommend the Microsoft Sidewinder especially if you have large hands. Really solid feel, perfect tracking, several dpi selectors, excellent scroll wheel, customizable buttons, comes with replacement feet and moveable weights, and not very expensive.

Although this model and this model are both out of stock apparently on newegg. I bet you could find them elsewhere.

Left-hander right-mouser checking in at 400 DPI. Starcraft II and Diablo 3 at 400 DPI. Why yes, my mousepad is the size of my desk, and my mouse weighs as much as a hockey puck. I actually bought half a dozen Microsoft Sidewinders off ebay when my first broke because they were discontinued. I tried other mice and they're way too light.

True story: I didn't know there was edge scrolling in Starcraft II until some months in and I started watching streamers. I never swung my mouse far enough to touch the edge...

Edit: I also can't play FPS. I dunno if this is a common lefty thing for lefties that can't use a mouse left-handed (I've been right-mousing since I was like ... 7.) Way too much shake at the kind of DPI that I can reliably spin around. Either I can't turn or I can't shoot. Sucks.

I've had a Microsoft sidewinder for about 7 years

I like the Microsoft Sidewinder mouse. It fits nicely in my hand, and it's quite rugged.

I use a Unicomp Space Saver keyboard. It's a buckling spring model. I'm considering getting a Kinesis Advantage Contoured keyboard, though, as I would like to use my thumbs for more than the space bar and the <Alt> key.

So subjective this issue. Out of the 10 - 20 mice owned/used over the years, the MS Sidewinder is by far the best. It has dynamic DPI adjustments. The girlfriend does not have to struggle to use my "ultra sensitive" mouse, she just pushes a button and presto, I think it is "stupidly hobbled."

I have liked some Razer mice though.

I love my Microsoft Sidewinder. Its a great mouse, it fits my hand perfectly, the macros and the speed controls are fantastic and easy to access. Buttons are easy to access and the weights you can add work pretty well, ive never had a weighted mouse till this one.

Ok, so im going to assume that you just want something that is a good mid range product. Keyboards and mice are really a personal preference type thing and everyone will like something different. Based off of my personal experience, the Microsoft sidewinder x4 is a great keyboard. It's not expensive, its layout is good, and it has some nice features. My friend has the x6, but he and a few others have experienced issues with it.

As for the mouse, i currently have the Cooler Master Inferno, and i love it. It feels good, supports multiple profiles, and allows you to customize many things via the software that comes with the mouse. The only complaint that i have is that it doesn't feel as solid as some of the other mice that i've used. Also, although it claims to be made for MMO RPG games, it isn't. That's not really a problem for me, but if you want a mouse for an MMO i would recommend the Razer Naga.

My friend has the Microsoft Sidewinder, and it feels the most solid out of the bunch. I'm not sure if they still make the one with the metal scroll wheel and side buttons, and i've never tried the x5 plastic one. I like the features on the Inferno, but i like the solid feel of the Sidewinder.

I can't give as too much help with the monitor just because I'm not exactly sure how much you're willing to spend, I'm not as experienced with monitors, and there's always deals for monitors. The one that I'm currently looking at is the Asus VH236H. It has a 2ms response time, 20 000:1 contrast ratio, and a 1920 x 1080 resolution.

The microsoft sidewinder is unique and worth a look. Most mice you hold, but that particular one is one of the few that you simply rest your hand on, because it is massive. The side buttons are also interestingly placed, and it has grown on me.

I'm a fan of the MMO 7 by Mad Catz, gaming with it for about 4-5 months so far. Very study mouse, lots of buttons and plenty of extra pieces to adjust the mouse to your hand or grip style. Haven't had any of the issues that other people have mentioned; sensors work great and the software is easy to use. It may be a little pricier than Logitech or Razer, but after trying them all side by side in a store I decided to go with the MMO 7 because it just felt better.

Upgraded from a 5 button Microsoft Sidewinder mouse, which I really liked but you may be hard pressed to find one now.
