I didn't understand mechanical keyboards until I tried one. It's awesome. Just feels crisp. Not really sure how much it matters for games, but as a general keyboard I recommend it.

I used one of these keyboards before and it was great. Far prefer the feel of mechanical keys now though.

I am not sure if anyone actually buys into them but Gamer Glasses and snacks - wtf are those.

u/Skuzzle_butt · 8 pointsr/buildapcsales

Wtf you're right...

As of now, I'm selling my Sidewinder x4 for the low low price of $90 USD. Get it while it's hot.

u/NismoGrendel · 5 pointsr/buildapc

I just picked up a Microsoft Sidewinder X4, it was only $53 so I figured I'd take a chance with it.

The keys feel pretty good, backlight has a few different light levels. It's supposed to have very good anti-ghosting. I haven't had a chance to play all my games yet, but it performs much better than the old Logitech wireless cheapo I had in Bad Company 2 and Black Ops.

It's a solid board and I'd say its a good deal for +/-$55.

u/Lewkylewk · 5 pointsr/buildapc

Under $40? That'll be hard to find (yet not impossible), if i were you i'd fork out another $7 and grab a Sidewinder

u/Iheartbaconz · 3 pointsr/pcgaming

Microsoft Sidewinder, cant really say anything about it, but its cleaper then what I bought and most of MS's hardware usually works well.

I have this logitech, but its an older model they still sell It has a Red backlit keys as well.

You would be hard pressed to find a mechanical backlit for under 50 used.

Microsoft Sidewinder X4

I have the X6 but it's a tad more pricey.

u/pdaddyo · 3 pointsr/tonightsdinner

It is a great keyboard, I have one too. Link for the interested.

u/bdnicho · 3 pointsr/gaming

A good keyboard can help avoid key ghosting/blocking. I have a Microsoft Sidewinder x4 and I love it. It's not mechanical, which some people love, but it's also not as expensive. I got mine for around $45 a couple years ago, but it looks like supply might be dwindling as it's now up to $75.

As far as a mouse goes I haven't find a need for anything super fancy. Unless you're playing FPS's competitively most mice will do. I find having at least two thumb buttons essential, but not much other than that. I have this $10 mouse and, so far, it works as well as any mid range mouse I've tried before.

Edit: I split my time between MMOs, RTSs, FPSs, RPGs, and action games, so my hardware needs cover most gaming uses.

u/xSTARKx · 3 pointsr/pcmasterrace

You can't really get a good Mechanical Keyboard for 50 bucks but the cheapest one is around 65 bucks and well its quite good for the money. And guys what with all the hate and downvotes?

I found a similar keyboard on Amazon made by HP and I used that to base measurements off of. I do not know what you use your computer for but unfortunately most backlit keyboards are geared to gamers. I've never used any of these keyboards but they are from respected manufactures. If I were you I'd read through a couple reviews on each to get a better understanding of what to expect from the keyboard.

Cooler Master Storm Devastator w/ mouse $29.99

This one is .2" longer, .4" narrower, .4" taller than your current keyboard

Corsair Raptor k30 $39.99

This one is .9" longer, .9" wider, .4" taller.

If you were to up your budget $10.

SteelSeries Apex Raw $49.99

2.97" longer, 2.5" wider, 1.05" taller.

I have used this one and I can say that I didn't care for the keys but I do use a mechanical board so take that with a grain of salt.

If you were to up your budget $25-30. (At this point it might be better to start looking at low end mechanicals.)

Corsair Raptor k40 $59.99

1.8" longer, 2.5" wider, .8" taller

Logitech Illuminated Ultrathin $59.99

I don't think the dimensions for this one are right because Amazon says it's 3 inches tall but it's sold as an ultrathin keyboard?

Microsoft SideWinder x4 $68.80

2.1" longer, 2.4" wider, 1.4" taller

Most schools have access to dreamspark, you can get windows 7 at a discount. The microsoft sidewinder x4 is a very good gaming keyboard. It has extra macro buttons along with media keys.

Heh I'm still using my saitek eclipse 1. I had purchased a Razer Tarantula a while back, but the D key stopped working. o.O But, I was looking into the Microsoft Sidewinder x4.

I would reccomend the saitek eclipse

I almost got this one a few days ago looking for a good blue backlit keyboard. All the other blue blacklit ones were either poorly rated, had bad ghosting, or were over $100 dollars.

I ended up actually getting the Microsoft Sidewinder X4 after realizing that red lighting won't hurt your eyes in the dark and the awesome reviews for the keyboard.

I actually am building almost exactly the same computer. A couple of suggested changes:

  • I'd change to the MSI graphics card. It has better cooling and is a bit cheaper, as well.
  • I couldn't recommend a monitor more highly than this one for the price. It'll cut about $120 from your budget which could be put to better use, such as a set of 16GB RAM.
  • I'm not liking that keyboard for the price, personally. With this one on the market for half the price (as well as being backlit and mechanical), I wouldn't want to spend that $130 myself.

Other than that, I like the looks of it. My build is here, and you can kind of see the differences between our builds. I paid premium on the keyboard myself, but it was for a few other reasons.

Mice

  • Logitech G500 Programmable Gaming Mouse $57.39, probably the best bet for reliability and gaming functionality. I have 2 of these on different computers.

  • Logitech Corded Mouse (M500)$28.79

I can't personally recommend any Razer mice though I'm using a Razer Tron mouse at the moment. Every Razer mouse I've had, has had issues with the left mouse button randomly double clicking.

Keyboards, you can get away with a lot in the keyboard department as they all do pretty much the same thing. Here's a couple of options.

  • Logitech Keyboard K120 $11.97 It's just a standard keyboard, no bells no whistles. Not designed for gaming but will work fine for any game.
  • Microsoft SideWinder X4 Keyboard $47.70, Microsoft has been known to make the odd good keyboard here and there. This is so far as I know, one of them.
  • Logitech Gaming Keyboard G105 Call of Duty: MW3 Edition $64.99, Entry level gaming keyboard with programmable keys. If you can get past the Call of Duty branding on this device it'd probably be a pretty good keyboard for you and the programmable keys would work with any game.
  • Logitech Gaming Keyboard G110 $69.99, For $5 more you can get a game agnostic gaming keyboard with 12 programmable keys.
  • Logitech Gaming Keyboard G510 $99.67, Now you enter the realm of on keyboard displayed, these work pretty good for a lot of games. A friend of mine has one of these and it's served him very well. I've never seen the point of an on keyboard display as I've never used the one I've got for anything.

EDIT: I accidentally the whole description of a product.

If you plan on continuing playing fighters with a keyboard, you might as well get one that doesn't hinder or impede your play. Microsoft's Sidewinder X4 goes on sale on Newegg somewhat often at $40 w/ free shipping, and if you're serious about quality then step up to mechanical keyboards which often support NKRO. I just purchased a Ducky Zero with brown switches and it's fantastic, very glad I chose the keyboard rather than a fightstick.

u/Crynix · 1 pointr/gaming

It may not live up to your expectations, but I am currently using the Microsoft Sidewinder X4, and I think it's great. They keys haven't worn out after 2,623,196 presses and that's only after 4 months or so.

Keys even have an LED for your nighttime habits. I know its 7 dollars over but it is worth it.

Edit: seems to be a prime eligible used keyboard with just packaging defects...may be worth a shot.

For a better gaming experience i would recommend you GameBooster.

About your laptop's shape it is always good to keep it as cool as possible, this can be achieved by cleaning the fan and the interior any now and then. You can do this by carefully vacum the bottom of the laptop and if you think you are up to it open it and clean it.

About the keyboard i dont know if it is too shiny or anything but what about this one ?

If i did not answer your question or you want to know anything else just reply :)

By any chance is your username based off of this?

u/vvarpidgeon · 1 pointr/letsplay

It's fairly pricey but I use a Microsoft Sidewinder and I love it. Keys are quiet. My microphone sits on a stand on my desk and picks up the thumping of my fingers on the keyboard but not the actual clicking of the keys themselves.

My favorite keyboard, Sidewinder X4. Best keyboard I've ever used. It feels solid and I find the keys nice to type on.

u/Halequin · 1 pointr/buildapc

The Sidewinder X4 is probably the cheapest mechanical keyboard out there.

u/nistco92 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Asus VH236H Monitor

Logitech G400 Mouse (this is the updated version of the MX518)

Logitech K200 Keyboard

(Alternate Keyboard: Sidewinder X4)

If you want to overclock, you should spend a bit more money on the mobo and get the ASRock 970 Extreme3 instead. The Biostar mobo you have picked out has a particularly low end (2+1 split) VRM system, which can be dangerous for overclocking high TDP processors.

Are there specific reasons you want that keyboard and mouse? If not, you should also consider the Microsoft Sidewinder x4 and Logitech g400. They're the most popular choices for the $30-$50 price range.

You can save $17 with this PSU. At $53, you probably won't find a better deal.

>Wow I totally forgot to change the case, it's an Antec 300 case.

The HAF 912 is probably a better choice than the Antec 300 because the HAF 912 has much better cable management. The Antec 300 does look really nice, though.

u/MentalToast · 1 pointr/cigars

I was wondering if that was going to be noticeable. The keyboard is actually the Sidewinder x4 by Microsoft. I had the black widow, but it died :( , I don't play WoW anymore, I have just yet to get a free mouse pad that's larger than the Warcraft one.

you guys need to use a keyboard cover like me.

i have a microsoft sidewinder x4 keyboard

https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-JQD-00001-SideWinder-X4-Keyboard/dp/B002ZV51DI

that i bought several years ago and i have absolutely no issue with it because i have it bought a custom cover for it on ebay. and im still using the protective cover i bought for it years ago.

you spill a drink on it, no problem just wipe it down. dont have to worry about food crumbs or dust seeping inbetween the cracks, etc..

i take the cover off and it looks brand new, asside from the WASD keys being a big worn off.

Microsoft Sidewinder x4

They are flat keys but not as flat as lycosa/laptop keys, still very flat.

It's a quality keyboard and really comfortable from having tested a friends one :)

u/TunapathaN · -1 pointsr/keyboards

A friend of mine brought this up. It has the features you want and is more in your price range. However, I can't voucher for the switch quality (the feel of the keypresses.) I've never used one, from what I'm reading though it sounds bad.

u/bossmcsauce · -4 pointsr/gaming

no need to pay more than about $40 for a keyboard though. i mean.. don't just pick up whatever shit dell you can find, but the Microsoft Sidewinder X4 is more than good enough. it's the best/most pleasant keyboard I've ever owned and used. I can't stand when I'm playing a game on a mechanical that is really loud, and I can vaguely hear the buttons through my headphones... really distracting and breaks my immersion.
