A proper gamepad. For whatever reason there seems to be this aversion to gamepads from the new PC gamer (read: "PC Master Race") crowd. For whatever reason these people see gamepads as an affront to PC gaming, and all games must be perfectly enjoyable with a keyboard and mouse, no exceptions.

I think almost every PC gamer should have a 360 gamepad among their primary gaming peripherals. Personally, I find them most useful for racing/driving games, as well as third person games like GTA/Saints Row/etc that involve a lot of driving. Also works well with platformers, fighters, etc. The best part is that because specifically the 360 controller is natively compatible with Windows and is so common, most games ship with native compatibility right out of the box.

best for the price

*edit - to be clear, i own 4 xbox360 wired (for local partygames and sometimes RL with friends) and one xboxOne wireless. The xboxOne is far better in terms of feeling and build quality, but he said he doesn't want to spend all the money for it, so i'd recommend the 360.

This is the desktop equivalent to the $550 alienware, the CPU is a bit better here. Alienware has an i3-4130T and a GTX 860m, which are low consumption equivalents to the parts I linked. Add $27 for the controller. Before rebates, and including the controller, the price is almost the same.

It is actually strangely worth it for an alienware, you get a steam OS instead of windows, it's a pain to upgrade (or impossible) but you don't have to build and it's more compact. On the other hand, you could get much better performances out of $650 before rebates for instance, so it's something to keep in mind. And you get some money back from the rebates.

I had several controllers in the past years but none of them was as good as my beloved Xbox 360 controller.

If you want it wireless, you need to buy the adapter and the controller so I rather recommend the cable-version for 27$.

u/scoobydooami · 11 pointsr/patientgamers

For sheer game compatibility, the Windows Xbox 360 controller. If a game supports a controller, that is usually the one. You do have to make sure to get the Windows one, not the Xbox one, because if you got the xbox one, you need to purchase an add'l adapter.

Steam has its own controller now, as well. I have been seeing mixed reviews on that.

I had a similiar issue, my old stick was naturally a little loose and hyper sensitive, so just resting my hand on it caused it to input roll because it was loose enough that the idle weight of my tiny little hands was moving it. This resulted in having to make the deadzones WAY bigger than I wanted them to be.

If you're in the market for a new controller heres some options from least to most expensive as well as amazon links for buying them.

Xbox 360 Pad: $28

  • Pros: CHEAP, works, comfortable
  • Cons: Not enough buttons
  • I own one and have played Elite with it

    Steam Controller: $50

  • Pros: Cheapish, works, comfortable, plenty of buttons, overly customizable software options to ensure it just works with everything!
  • Cons: Touchpad in place of traditional D-Pad/Right Joystick can be janky in some games and some people just downright don't like this.
  • I own one and have played Elite with it.

    T-Flight HOTAS X: $50

  • Pros: Cheap, well made, works with PS4 if you're a PS4 commander
  • Cons: No mini analog stick.

Xbox One Controller + Wireless PC Adapter: $63

  • Pros: Upgrade to the 360 version
  • Cons: Wireless, so batteries.

    Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS HOTAS: $108

  • Pros: Cheap for a HOTAS, well made, mini analog stick on throttle.
  • Cons: Mini Analog stick is in a weird place (subjective)
  • I do not own this, but I would buy it if I needed another HOTAS

    Xbox One Elite Controller: $140

  • Pros: upgrade over the standard xbone controller
  • Cons: paddles can't be mapped to unique button presses but instead just can be set to emulate other buttons on the controller

    X-52: $150

  • Pros: Looks like the joystick and throttle in Elite.
  • Cons: No ministick on throttle.

    Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS: $449

  • Pros: All Metal Construction, very solid piece of hardware
  • Cons: No Ministick on throttle, No Twist Yaw on the stick, HOLY SHIT BALLS EXPENSIVE, your husband/wife might be angry with you for buying this if they aren't into this kinda thing.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

Okay with the all in one box stuff out of the way there are some good mix and match options from CH Products which I'll list below. My current set up is CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Pedals, + HTC Vive for headtracking (or ED Tracker for headtracking when I don't want VR)

    CH Flightstick: $75

  • Pros: Solid Build Quality, Ambidextrous
  • Cons: Ugly, not a lot of buttons, no twist yaw

    CH Combatstick: $94

  • Pros: Solid Build Quality, thumb button.
  • Cons: Ugly, no twist yaw

    CH Fighterstick: $116

  • Pros: Solid Build Quality, 4-way Hat thumb switch
  • Cons: Ugly, No twist Yaw
  • I own this and this is my primary stick for Elite

    CH Flight Sim Yoke: $120

  • Pros: Can double as a driving wheel!
  • Cons: No triggers, not a lot of buttons, some players have reported yokes don't work well for twitchy flight gameplay like combat.

    CH Pro Pedals: $121

  • Pros: Solid Build Quality, Very Responsive, doubles as gas & brake pedals for driving games!
  • Cons: Pedals are a bit close together, some male players have reported this is uncomfortable, the springs that recenter the pedals are really strong and take getting used to.
  • I own this and it is my primary yaw pedals.

    CH Pro Throttle: $123

  • Pros: Solid Build Quality, very responsive throttle, mini analog stick,
  • Cons: Throttles Physical Range is a bit short, no center indent or tension control, Kinda ugly, mini stick might require high deadzones.
  • I own this and it is my primary throttle

    CH Eclipse Yoke: $201

  • Pros: Good for Flying & Driving, plenty of buttons, and flappy paddles for yaw or gear shifting
  • Cons: No triggers, might not be ideal for combat.
  • I want one.

Also note that the joysticks and throttles from the Thrustmaster FCS and Warthog can be bought separately making them worth considering as options here.

FINALLY I will leave you with a word of warning. The Saitek X-55 and X-56 might look tempting, but they have shoddy build quality and will break on you. I used to have an X-55, and I've seen the inside of the X-56 and they both have the same problems. They are a time bomb, do not buy them. Also someone will more than likely eventually comment saying they own one of these devices and have had zero issues out of them, lucky them I hope they never have an issue, but Saitek is known for terrible Quality Control and with the exception of the X-52 buying a Saitek product is not worth the gamble even though Logitech now owns them and is known for great build quality, there are too many items from when Mad Catz owned them floating around in the wild.

The wired xbox 360 controller is probably your best bet right now. It's the most popular and the most well supported in games, as well as being well designed. Unless you want to wait for valve's own controller to come out, I'd recommend that.

u/rarelypost · 10 pointsr/patientgamers

Get an actual 360 wired controller for quality and dependability. I bought mine 4 years ago and it's still performing like new.

Amazon currently has it for $27. Just make sure it's from Amazon or you could wind up with some cheap Chinese knockoff from a third party seller.

u/excral · 9 pointsr/cemu

The Xbox 360 controller is a great all-round choice at $26.75. I can't really help you if you want to pay less. There are some actually good no name controllers but it's hard to find them between all the trash that's sold.

u/SwiftStriker00 · 9 pointsr/buildapc

If you can explain to your son the difference behind the brand image and the actual performance, then go with the custom build every time. Some other things, you don't need to spend $150 on a controller. Go with the $70 ones they work fine. Better yet get a Xbox 360 controller for $27. He will prefer a mouse and keyboard for minecraft and the shooters anyway.

I'll make a deal with you. If you go with the custom build, I have an extra windows 8 key lying around that you can have. It is a free upgrade to 10 so your brother can use the key to go from 8 -> 10. PM me

u/Z3stra · 9 pointsr/witcher

I would say a controller is more comfortable. I played Witcher with both, and i felt like the game experience is better with the controller.

So maybe buy a xbox controller for PC (it isn't expensive), and enjoy the game! :D

u/Casters4eva · 8 pointsr/buildapcsales

Amazon also has the wired version for $30.49 if you don't have a receiver for the wireless controllers.

u/tasteofflames · 7 pointsr/GameDeals

If you have a wireless 360 controller already, snag you one of these. If you don't look around for something like this, you might be able to find a better price elsewhere.

u/dutC4 · 7 pointsr/pcgaming

A "good" steering wheel can run around $250 and headsets that don't have either poor mics or poor speakers are very uncommon and pricey. I recommend the controller by far, Xbox controllers use "xinput" and are plug and play with almost every game out there with exception of 10+ year old games that have a problem with the triggers being an axis instead of a single button. You can get the 360 controller quite cheap ex: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-360-Controller-Windows/dp/B004QRKWLA/ or go for the Xbox One controller with the same input system and a much better d-pad: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Controller-Cable-Windows/dp/B00O65I2VY/ (any wired Xbox 360 controller will work and any Xbox One controller will work with a micro usb cord of sufficient length).

I might suggest 2 things:

  1. Buy a long HDMI cable and hook your PC up to your TV, like this one:

    https://smile.amazon.com/High-Speed-HDMI-Cable-Supports-Specification/dp/B00RYRJYDG/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1465925065&sr=1-1&keywords=50+foot+hdmi

  2. Buy a wired XB360/XB1 controller with a USB extension (or a PC wireless adapter for them) like these:

    https://smile.amazon.com/Microsoft-Wired-Controller-Windows-Console/dp/B004QRKWLA/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1465925169&sr=1-1&keywords=wired+xbox+360+controller+for+pc

    https://smile.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1465925250&sr=1-6&keywords=xbox+one+controller+pc+adapter

That way, you can use your PC (Steam's Big Picture mode is fully controller supported) while sitting on your couch playing games. You can get the whole setup for under $50 either way you choose to do it. You get all the power of a PC with all the convenience of a console. Not sure why more people don't do this, but I HIGHLY recommend it.
u/dahakon · 6 pointsr/GameDeals

Note that you can still get the $25 XBOX 360 controller if you choose "Amazon" from the "Other Sellers" column on the right hand side of the page. You might need to wait a bit longer than you would normally though.

Just a heads up in case someone really wanted the 360 controller. I hear very good things about the Playstation controller.

They also sell a little wireless adapter so you can use the controllers you already have. This is what I use to play many games on my PC.

There are also playstation controllers that will work the same - and several third party companies make functional gamepads.

All the glory of PC Skyrim + mods from the comfort of your couch/armchair/bed!

The Xbox controller is great, I have 2. Many games in Windows support them natively. But I think the dpad is a weak point.

I haven't tried this Logitech gamepad but it is very popular.

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-940-000110-Gamepad-F310/dp/B003VAHYQY

I wouldn't buy a very cheap gamepad, when quality gamepads aren't that expensive and can last much longer.

This is for PC, I don't know about ps3.

u/Jahandar · 5 pointsr/pcgaming

Get an XBOX 360 Gamepad, I am a PC-only gamer and don't own any consoles, but I have this gamepad.

They are the easiest to get working, are well-made, have the largest base of games that support it natively (including Arkham City), and if you've played much xbox you're probably already comfortable using it.

Congrats, but do you really think someone is going to drop $120 to buy 4 XBOX controllers at once?

Either you've got a lot of money to spare or you got those controllers separately, over a decent period of time.

Do you really think everyone else has the same access to resources as you do?

u/Corgitine · 5 pointsr/dragonage

If your PC can run it well, absolutely no reason to not get it on PC. It is supposed to come with controller support (source) so you can choose between the precision of KB+M or the convenience of controllers, while Frostbite 3 is mod unfriendly it's always possible some dedicated fans might find a way to mod it (meanwhile it is practically impossible to mod it on console no matter how dedicated the fanbase), you can choose to play it at your desk in front of the monitor, hooked up to your TV, or if we're lucky we might be able to use Steam to stream it to a laptop, etc.

Only downside I can see is 1) if you don't already own a XInput controller, you'll have to buy one if you want to play with a controller (Playstation style controllers go for $20, XBox 360 controllers go for $30, allegedly you can also use your XBone controller but not wirelessly), and 2) if you haven't upgraded your PC in the past few years it may take a while to find settings that it runs well on and you might have to significantly tone down the graphical quality to get it running well. If you're worried about that, I'd say just wait, don't preorder until the system requirements are out (they might already be, but quick googleing isn't turning up any official sources), and then compare to what you have and go from there.

u/eyeEX · 4 pointsr/buildapcsales

I think the one linked is a regular XBOX controller. The xbox controller "for windows" is $36.39. I'm not really sure what the difference is or if they are interchangeable or not.

Just pay $30 for a Xbox 360 controller. It works like a charm; outstanding handling; every game I played so far (didn't play many emulators tbh) immediately recognized it.

u/overkill136 · 4 pointsr/gaming
u/teddyzaper · 4 pointsr/pcgaming

for $27 u too can have a controller! (If you think about it, most games cost more than a controller)

u/tokenwalrus · 4 pointsr/gamingsuggestions

My only personal recommendation is the Zelda and Pikmin series. Otherwise you can just google for the best games on Gamecube, Wii, N64 etc. and download the ROMs.

This is my recommendation for a gamepad.

u/Asmor · 4 pointsr/pcgaming

Amazon has Xbox 360 controllers for $33.

Native support in Windows, and it's been adopted as the de facto 'standard' controller for computer games that support controllers.

It wouldn't have to be exactly that, but just something that can easily be bought and put together that beats either system.

u/Dioroxic · 4 pointsr/residentevil

I think you can use some DS4 for windows programs to map keys.

If you want a simple solution and don't mind spending a little cash, get a wired xbox 360 controller for windows. They are $27 USD on Amazon and are literally plug and play with 99.99% of games on steam. I've never had a 360 controller not automatically work perfectly for any steam games. If the game has controller support, a 360 controller works perfect every single time.

It's just a great controller to have lying around. Used mine for years and years. Still works fantastic.

Reason why? Microsoft owns xbox and windows. Drivers and support is all there. Super duper easy for game devs. Always works.

Many games work with one of these now....

u/frobnic8 · 3 pointsr/GirlGamers

TL;DR: Xbox 360 if the game you got really need a controller.

What games did you pick up? Many, many games for computers work just fine with a keyboard and a mouse.

If you have a two-button mouse with a scroll wheel, you're pretty much set.

That said, there are some games which work better with controllers.

For those, the Microsoft Xbox 360 controllers work well. You don't need the "for PC" version. They are all USB controllers straight out of the box.

As /u/Casey234 mentioned, the Steam controller is nice if you don't like the idea of using a keyboard and mouse. It tries to work both as a controller and as a keyboard/mouse combo for games. It's a pricier, though.

Here's some links if you need them:

Something like: http://smile.amazon.com/Microsoft-Wired-Controller-Windows-Console/dp/B004QRKWLA
(or the wireless version if you prefer. I own four and have used them with both PC's and Mac's just fine.)

Or the Steam Controller: http://store.steampowered.com/app/353370/ if you want to avoid a mouse and keyboard as much as possible.

u/jaconphil · 3 pointsr/hardwareswap

>Stop making shit up. $30 is the high end price for gamepads, you can find them for much cheaper. $60 is the cost of a gaming keyboard or mouse. Not a gamepad.

Less making shit up and more estimating given the range of prices I have seen. I've never seen an xbox-360 or PS3 controller for less than $30.

>Plenty is a bit vague and meaningless. I would posit that the vast majority of PC gamers either have a dedicated gamepad for their PC or swap in a 360 controller (or a PS3 controller with a bit of tweaking).

I would have said the majority, but since there are no actual statistics about it I went with plenty instead because I am not in the business of relying upon anecdotal evidence and lying.

>I personally don't know a single one that doesn't. I was the last adopter of my circle of friends and I became a sworn defender of the gamepad immediately afterwards.

None of my friends have hooked up their xbox controller to their PC. The ones who do have a controller also have a console and just buy console games on that. Few of my online friends have a controller sitting next to their PC. It does depend on what games they buy on PC too though, most of them try to avoid buying bad console ports.

> I couldn't even imagine playing a game like Darksiders with a keyboard + mouse and it's one of the best games I played this generation.

I couldn't couldn't care less about Darksiders to be honest, it doesn't interest me at all. Although it is good to hear that you really enjoyed it :)

>It's incredibly whiny and pathetic to bitch about buying a cheap peripheral to get a quality experience on hundreds of games

Have you ever read your own posts?

>(yes, there are literally hundreds of PC games that have dramatically superior experiences with a gamepad).

There are literally thousands of PC games that don't support controllers and are good games (and quite often are deeper and more complex than most console games).

While there may be hundreds of console ports available, those I have played I've had very few issues with. Some of them have worked extremely well with a keyboard and mouse because the developers actually put some time and effort into the PC port (Mafia II, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Call of Juarez, Borderlands, Bioshock, Hitman: Blood Money, etc).

Psychonauts, Batman AA and AC, AssCreed 1&2, and Burnout Paradise all work best with a controller. I use one of these, but some prefer the PS3 controller or cheaper Logitech solution.

u/Kromherjan · 3 pointsr/Nioh

> but at least they should have put a big red label on the store page saying: This game requires a controller

I agree! It should be clearly labelled, because even if I don't agree with it completely, there is a certain expectation that any pc game should work with M+KB, and hiding information like that just infuriates consumers.
I also concede to your original point, that mouse control in menus would have been nice, at least.

Why would one own a controller as a pc gamer?

Sure you don't have to own one, especially if you don't plan on playing any games, that benefit from it. However a lot of pc gamers refuse buy a controller out of principle and I disagree strongly with that point of view. Why would one limit oneself that way?! I think I bought a 360pad the day I bought my first game, that was said to be better with controller (might have been Dark Souls... maybe) and I haven't regretted it. Occasionally I pull it out for a platformer or something. Again if you didn't need one yet, sure, whatever. But in the long term there will eventually come along a game that will benefit greatly from owning one and I think that's the point in time, where buying a controller > complaining, about a game not/barely supporting M+KB.

Whoah I rambled there. Some of that is more of a general sentiment, than specifically addressed at you. For context, I guess :-)

Suggestions?
Well the absolutely safest option is an official Xbox (or Xbox-like) controller from Microsoft, like this
It's the easiest, because with it being a Microsoft product, the chance of you running into any driver/compatibility issues are non-existent. Also XInput (the specific button scheme) is the most widely supported by pc games. Not every game is able to display button prompts for PS-controllers, for example. You could of course also go with any other XInput controller by third party manufacturers, but I don't have any experience in that regard.

u/Trey5169 · 3 pointsr/BeamNG

Just as an FYI, if you're using space as a throttle, on most basic keyboards, you can't press space and left arrow at the same time. This is true for any game; if you've ever played a flash player (browser) racing game that used space for boost, then you'll know what I'm talking about.

Also, way back in the day, I picked up a wired xbox 360 controller. It's pretty good for the game. Quite short of a real life steering wheel, but it's a great cheap alternative, especially if you can't turn properly.

Edit: It's less than $30 on amazon.

u/CptnKickass · 2 pointsr/Nexus10

There's USB controllers that are the style of generic, N64, NES, SNES, Xbox, PS, or whatever else you want. You can use them via a cheap micro USB to USB adapter. I use the N64 and generic ones myself.

u/TitaniumDragon · 2 pointsr/gaming

A wired 360 controller is $26.99 on Amazon. 360 controllers have more buttons, two analog sticks, and rumble features, and I think might be more pressure-sensitive (not sure if SNES controllers had pressure-sensitive buttons or were just on/off).

Really, that's what you'd expect.

Wireless controllers are much more expensive because they contain batteries and wireless stuff and a charger.

So what you're paying for is having a chargeable wireless controller.

Ok, so to answer these:

1: Nope, there's no "in game achievements", just the Steam/XBox/PS4 achievements.

2: The raids don't really have a confirmation as to how frequently they will occur. So far we had two last weekend and one coming up tomorrow, but there isn't a confirmed schedule or anything.

3: Currently raids are the only "update type thingy", but there have been confirmations that more "event" style things will be coming in the future, not tied to DLC.

4: Yes and no. There is one for skills; a list that shows the descriptions of all the super, ultimate, evasive, and transformation attacks in the game. However the names are censored out until you unlock them, just the description. Items like outfits do not have a collection screen; they just show you how many of them you have in your inventory. However, if you USED to have one and then sold it/turned it into a QQ Bang/have it equipped to a different character so you cant use it, it will still be listed, just with a 0 next to it instead of a 1, 2, etc. based on how many you have.

5: The main story is only single player; you physically can't have an "MLG team" to do it. Parallel Quests are also all able to be played offline, though you can also bring on 2 CPU partners to help. Expert Quests can also be played offline. Vs matches can also be done offline/against the computer. The only things that REQUIRE online are the Raids and Online Vs matches. As far as achievements go, you DO need some people for them, just because 2 achievements involve going online to a vs match for the first time, and then winning 7 vs matches.

6: Raids are completely new to XV2. The only post launch special events from XV1 were a few "world tournaments" where you fought in online battles to raise a ranked score; and DLC wich brought on playable characters, new moves, new PQs, new story missions, and new mentors.

7: Well... you CAN play it on a keyboard. But I HIGHLY recommend just buying a Wired XBox 360 Controller.. It's just significantly easier for a game involving flying around in 3D space, and as long as you have a USB port free it'll work.

8: Well its not like the raid rewards are "poo", theyre just cosmetic. I for one enjoy the cosmetic side of things since I've been a Dragon Ball fan for a long time, and it's the most immersive experience for that purpose yet. Though if you're just hunting achievements, you're fine missing the raids for now.

Easy to do when microsoft still sells them: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Wired-Controller-Windows-Console/dp/B004QRKWLA

The only risk on amazon is if some shitty 3rd party using amazon as a warehouse slips in fake ones, but amazon will quickly blacklist such a seller and give you a refund or replace it with a real one. That risk is generally quite low since the first person who ends up with a fake is going to report it and inventory will be checked.

u/Luminaria19 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

You'll either need this kind of wireless adapter or to get a regular wired controller.

u/Blais_Of_Glory · 2 pointsr/pcgamingtechsupport

Did you install the drivers for your controller? If you did and its still not working, get a wired Microsoft Xbox 360 controller or wired Microsoft Xbox 1 controller. You can see it's much cheaper to get the wired 360 controller. If you absolutely want a wireless controller, you could get either the wireless Xbox 360 controller and the Windows Xbox 360 adapter or wireless Xbox 1 controller with Windows adapter (old version) or wireless Xbox 1 controller with Windows adapter (new version). Since they're made by Microsoft, they work fine with Windows. Logitech also makes a few good controllers, the wired Logitech Gamepad F310 and the wireless Logitech Gamepad F710. I personally have a wired Microsoft 360 controller and a wireless Logitech F710 and from my experience, the official Microsoft controllers work best with games. I hope that helps.

IS the 360 controller an ACTUAL wireless 360 controller with the charger pack usb cable connected to it or a 360 controller for windows (not wireless)?

Many people plug a 360 controller into their PC with the charger cable and expect it to work as a game pad. It does not, it simply charges the game pad.

For it to work on PC you either need to buy the 360 gamepad for windows or a special adapter:

Adapter: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2

I guess I'm going against the grain here, but Dark Souls. Skyrim lost it's magic really quickly and I got bored. I've got 180 hours on Dark Souls and is the only game I've hit 100% achievements on Steam.

The difficulty it throws at you will change the way you game. It's tough, but fair. You'll seek out harder games. You'll crave it. You'll never pick "Easy" or "Normal" again. Even my brother said "Dark Souls ruined all other video games" for him.

Grab an Xbox controller for $25 and call it a day: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-360-Controller-Windows/dp/B004QRKWLA

I don't know how attached you are to PS3 controllers, but you can but an xbox controller pretty cheap. I got the wireless for PC version for 20-30ish about 2 years ago, and it's still in great condition. Right now you can get a wired one on amazon for 35. http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-360-Controller-Windows/dp/B004QRKWLA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1419055172&sr=8-1&keywords=xbox+controller+for+pc&pebp=1419055427639

If you play on LE instead of SSE, you could probably run it easily on a cheaper machine. Also the USB Xbox 360 controller works just fine (it's what I use for Skyrim) and it's still affordable these days. You don't even need to customize it; all the controls are set automatically, because the game and controller recognize each other.

It says partial controller support because there's no way to quit the game with the controller. I can't speak to the Xbox One controller, but a wired Xbox 360 controller plays the game perfectly, from my experience. I assume the Xbox One controller works just fine in other games, though? You might try quitting the game, unplugging your wireless adapter (I'm assuming you're using one; I don't think I've seen a wired Xbox One controller), plugging it back in, re-syncing the controller, then starting the game again. If that doesn't work, all I can really say is that I do know that a wired Xbox 360 controller will work, and they're relatively cheap on Amazon if you don't have one:

I vote 360 controller, no questions asked. Currently playing through Skies of Arcadia Legends and have the buttons mapped letter for letter (A is A, Y is Y, etc). Even though the B and X are "switched" it works perfectly as I naturally want to press the right button for B. For $30 you can scoop up a wired controller from Amazon.

>Do they both work the moment they're plugged in?

The drivers are automatically installed once you plug them in, no 3rd party software is needed.

>Also, do they have wired versions of the controllers?

Xbox 360, yes. Xbox One, I don't believe so. The Xbox One controller has a micro USB port that works when plugged into a PC.

The Xbox 360 wireless controller doesn't work when plugged in to a PC, so if you go with an Xbox 360 controller, either grab a wired one or buy this with the wireless one.

u/UltraFlyingTurtle · 2 pointsr/buildapc

For controllers. wired Xbox controllers have generally been preferred as most games that have controller support work best with that controller. Wireless ones sometimes have issues (I own both Wireless and Wired and they've worked fine for me though). Be sure it works with Windows like this model:

https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Wired-Controller-Windows-Console/dp/B004QRKWLA

Also, because many PC games don't have controller support, I highly suggest looking into getting the Steam Controller. It's programmable and has user-submitted profiles to handle games that require traditional keyboard and mouse control, like RTS games, strategy games, etc.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/353370/

When you say playing online, I guess it depends on the game. For fast twitch games, I imagine you'll be at an disadvantage because of the faster accuracy you can get more moue and keyboard setups, but for MMOs, slower FPS team-based games, you'll be fine. I played the FF14 MMO with a controller.

A quick google search tells me that it's possible to use a PlayStation controller with a PC, but I don't know how well that works. I got myself a Xbox 360 controller for PC (it's an ordinary wired Xbox 360 controller with a USB adapter) so I could better play certain games on my PC, and as someone who grew up playing PS1 and PS2 along with a little PS3 I think it works excellently.

Just curious, why are you building a gaming PC if you would rather play on a console?

I only own wired 360 controllers. They are $26 on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Wired-Controller-Windows-Console/dp/B004QRKWLA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1483631878

Most of the Happ buttons use Cherry Switches with 3 leads, NC / NO / Common. Almost ALL arcade machines only used two, Common and NO. NO Means Normally Open. So when you push the button, NO becomes Active. This is the connection you would send to you microcontroller input. These are also the same leads you would use for Joystick input.

The Common leads on ALL switches can be daisy chained together and then only 1 wire would need to go to the Ground terminal on your controller board.

FYI, NC means normally closed.

If you are only going to own one controller, it's hard to suggest something other than a wireless XBOX 360 controller, imho.

They seem to be becoming the standard for "controller support", and most games will work by default. Emulators that don't support Xinput can be made to work with X360ce.

Although if you intend to use it with a laptop, the wired version might be better. It's not like you are going to be playing on a couch across the room from your laptop, right?

So I tried switching the sticks around and did the memtest86. When I switched the sticks to A1/B1 they had the same performance as in A2/B2. Still 4 GB reserved, my mobo still says it's in single channel mode while CPU-Z says dual channel. When I used only one stick in A2 here's what task manager showed. Looks like the reserved memory dropped to 47.0 MB and the available memory is still 4 GB. And here is CPU-Z. So basically it looks like I'm getting the same performance with using one stick as with using two, correct? That seems like a problem.

I then did the memtest86 with the sticks in A2/B2. Here is the summary and here is the benchmark graph. The summary says my total physical memory is 4 GB, which appears to back up what I saw in task manager. Is my mobo not using both sticks? I don't know how to interpret the results of the graph.

> Can you think of any other hardware connected which might need to reserve so much RAM?

Aside from what's in the list in the OP, I have this kbm and also a wired Xbox 360 controller that are regularly connected. It says 128 MB RAM are needed for the controller and I am unsure about the kbm.

>try testing with default Bios settings or clear CMOS, or update the motherboard Bios.

How would I go about doing this stuff? Should I download the BIOS from their website?

Edit: I updated the BIOS to 3.40 but it still says the memory is in single-channel mode. The hardware reserved RAM is now at 4.1 GB.

Edit 2: Here is the page file usage. Don't really know what to make of it.

It's definitely not a make or break. I've played with both and the keyboard works fine, though a controller does make it feel much more natural/fluid (though this may just be because I did play it on xbox before PC). It may be worth it if there are other games you would use it with - they're $33.00 on Amazon and possibly cheaper on eBay. (game + controller would be a little over the price of a single game at standard cost)

As an aside, Dark Souls is currently my single favorite game, above even nostalgia bombs like any Zelda or Mario games.

To be fair if I sell my GTX 780 and get a 970 then it'd be less than $50, but I would still need to wait until the oculus goes down in price, at least to $500.

you can buy a usb 360 controller specifically configured for pc, or you can buy a wireless controller and use microsloth's wireless receiver with it. all i have are the wireless controllers so i go the receiver route. the Play and Charge kit does not work with the controller on the pc, either

I've had a Logitech F310 for a while and it's been fine so far, pretty cheap as well. But if you want you could pump out an extra $15 USD for one of those wired xbox 360 controllers. The Logitech controller may be cheaper but it seems to have dead zones (which could lead to problems when playing platformers or fighting games) so I'd recommend going for the xbox 360 controller if you have the cash.

Sorry, I don't recall how much it was, as my friend bought it a while ago. I think it was around $20-$30?

At that price point I strongly suggest to just buy it from amazon.ca new. An authentic wired Xbox 360 controller from microsoft is $32+tax right now: http://www.amazon.ca/Microsoft-Xbox-Wired-Controller-Windows/dp/B004QRKWLA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1451022349&sr=8-1&keywords=xbox+360+controller

Yes. And you can also get the Xbox 360 wired controller for PC. I find its pretty much the same as the Xbox One controller, but cheaper.

u/iNToXiQator · 1 pointr/PS4

$100 ?

On Amazon you can buy ten windows 7 copies for that money.

$10 Keyboard , $10 Mouse , $27 Controller - all this is as pricey as a year of online gaming on Playstation - Monitor price = TV price

u/mankindforward · 1 pointr/oculus

If you don't have a gamepad (Xbox or Playstation controller), you should get that ($30 on amazon - http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-360-Controller-Windows/dp/B004QRKWLA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1421006743&sr=8-2&keywords=xbox+controller). On Windows, if you have an Xbox controller, it's plug-and-play. For Playstation controllers, you have to run some additional software and then it pretty much behaves the same way. Many VR devs are targeting gamepads as the primary control interface--it's just really nice for smooth locomotion or jetpacking and many people (hundreds of millions?) already own one.

If you want something cool to play with now that is relatively inexpensive, you can try the Leap Motion ($80). It's not perfect but there are apps like Weightless that allow you to use your hands with fingers to interact with objects in zero-G. We'll be supporting Leap Motion soon.

When CV1 comes out, I anticipate that Oculus will do something with the Nimble Sense tech that they bought. Most likely we'd get it built into the HMD. We'll definitely support that since the reliability and responsiveness seems quite good.

Now that I think about it, I did notice the ps4 controller wouldn't work when I tried that with Nidhogg, although the ps4 controller does work with steam big picture mode.

So yeah, maybe only that specific controller is supported, which is a bummer. Going to try a third generic controller right now and I'll let you know how it goes

edit: ya generic controller didn't work either, so that settles it: only the xbox controller is supported for this game! its soooo fun with a gamepad though, i'm tellin ya

I found Castle Crashers to be much easier to play with a Windows compatible Xbox controller instead of the keyboard. It's very old school arcade style and I felt it needed a joystick to really make it work. My fingers were aching by the end after using the keyboard but it's doable without the controller. However lots of fun, visually looks great, and 50% off on Steam right now!!

u/MiddleClassSeaBass · 1 pointr/videos

You guys are novices. You need to buy one for $33 off Amazon and then you make $7 for doing almost nothing.

u/Aberu · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

There is a Micro Center in Denver Tech Center, about 1 hour away. Based on your budget and needs and how you want to do some pretty intensive stuff (streaming and video encoding while gaming), just to future proof as much as possible and get the most for your money, I would go the i7.

As for the versions of Windows debate. You get no performance advantage going from Windows 7 64 bit to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Ultimate is the same as enterprise edition (so it has bitlocker encryption, and unix application support). That being said Windows 8.1 actually beats Windows 7 on performance. With SSD Trim support, multiple optimizations for gaming, etc... Windows 8 does better than 7 by a little bit. I hope I can convince you to go with 8.1 instead of 7, also because 7 will fall out of support soon'ish, AND there are rumors that seem reliable that 8.1 will get a free update to Win 10 (Win 10 is freagin awesome so far, I'm using it in the technical preview form). Also the most common reason to get the more expensive builds of Windows 8.1 or 7 is if you are joining a Domain or you need encryption to comply with security standards, which if this is for home use you will never ever have to worry about that. Hit me back if you think this would become your work computer, because if so, we might as well get 8.1 pro. Anyways let's look at the build...

This is what I would go with on that budget with your usage scenario.

i7-4790K cpu

Best lga1150 processor at the moment, and overclockable if you want to mess with that in the future.

Hyper 212 EVO Cooler

From what I have seen, best cooler at the moment for the price. Huge, not too loud, just a great value all around. I paired it with the best performing thermal compound on the market. This little 12 dollar buy means many degrees celsius.

Fatal1ty z97 killer Motherboard

This motherboard can handle quite a bit of overclocking. It also supports 3 way SLI for that future proofing. All for a decent price.

G.Skill Ripjaw X DDR3-1600 CL7 2x4gb RAM

I really wanted 16 gb of RAM in here, but it just wasn't in the budget. If you are willing to go over by 50 bucks on your budget bump it up with an extra set of these.

Samsung 840 EVO 250gb SSD and Seagate Barracudea 3 TB HDD

Great value/performance/size SSD paired with the best price/gb ratio hard drive out there. Basically future proofing all of that video editing and stream archives. Don't trust the cloud, store it on here!

MSI GTX 970

This is in my opinion, one of the best GPU's at the moment.

Fractal Design Define R4

This is so much case for so little price. It has silencing built in, which is great for streaming (don't want the computer whirr to be picked up on your mic, people won't watch you for very long!). It's spacious and has wonderful cable management.

Corsair CSM 750

This PSU has enough overhead for at least one more GTX 970 in the future and it's one of the highest rated at the moment with great internals.

Optical Drive

Cheapest optical drive, just for OS and compatibility reasons.

OS

Windows 8.1 has better performance than Windows 7. If you can't budge on Windows 7, I'll change it out, but trust me, Ultimate is a huge waste of money for you.

Monitor

Got a similar sized monitor so you can have dual display (you'll want that for streaming, makes it easier to interact with your audience).

Wireless Adapter

Cheap but good brand (intel is great) of wifi adapter that is compatible with 802.11ac (future-proofing).

Keyboard, Mouse and Headphones

Decided to go the matching route since you cared about how cool the setup looked. The Chroma series looks bad ass and each peripheral are really well made.

Webcam

This is the best webcam for the money, I bought one when it used to be 90 bucks, great deal on this guy.

Controllers

These are highly compatible, comfortable, intuitive controllers. I always suggest these because they aren't that much more than otherwise crummy products and are well made and pretty universally appealing.

u/ReliablyFinicky · 1 pointr/RocketLeague

If you don't want to switch, you don't want to switch... That's fine... but I bought an Xbox 360 controller for $28 on Amazon (free same-day shipping) and I can't recommend it enough.

u/kevinbstout · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I know you're specifically looking to use the Joy-Cons with your laptop, but seriously consider picking up a wired 360 controller - https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Wired-Controller-Windows-Console/dp/B004QRKWLA/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_63_t_0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=M9FY9WQ1PF568CN4Y4K2 It's the easiest, highest quality plug-and-play controller for the PC in my opinion. When I travel with my laptop, that's what I end up bringing. Also, Skyrim recognizes the 360 controller natively, so you'll even get the button prompts to change.

u/Rosettachamps · 1 pointr/RocketLeague

Good ol' reliable 360 controller thats relatively cheap. If you care about your performance in the game, and want to win and improve as much as you can i would switch. But if this is just to play with friends a couple hours a week and not be competitive (by that i mean wanting to win and improve, not necessarily tournaments etc) youre probably fine on keyboard

CPU

The basic standard for a higher end gaming pc these days is a modern i5. Intel’s i5-4440 is the base i5 of their latest CPU release, and will perform excellently.

MOTHERBOARD

Gigabyte makes quality pc parts and this mother board has a modern chip set, onboard USB 3.0 headers and six sata 6 Gb/s ports. Besides the sata 6 ports this motherboard isn’t that feature rich, but it is more affordable board and you will be unlikely to use those extra features anyway.

RAM

A basic set of 1 x 8GB RAM stick. Nothing to fancy but it should do the job well.

SSD

Once you experience a SSD you just can’t bring yourself to continue to let others suffer. The Curial MX100 is a well-reviewed modern SSD that has very good performance. It will make your boot up times super-fast, your OS will feel snappier and anything installed on it will open so much quicker.

HDD

1TB should be plenty of space for a good amount of games. But if you find it is not enough, you will have three open sata 6 ports for plenty of expandability.

GPU

The R9 290 is the best high end “bang for your buck” card right now. Now you could go with a cheaper R9 290 but it might not have as nice of a cooler on it. Sapphire makes some of the best coolers for AMD cards and should perform great while staying cool and silent.

CASE

Corsair knows how to make a good case and the 200R is a great case at a great price.

PSU

A well trusted power supply that will be enough to power the thirsty R9 290, plus as an added bonus, it is semi modular!

Optical Drive

Technically it is entirely possible to go without a disk drive now a days, but I think they are nice to have.

OS

I understand that you already have access to an OS so I did not include it in the price.

Monitor

For 1080p 23” really seems to be the sweet spot, big enough you can see it easily, but small enough that the pixel density isn't to noticeable. One thing to note is that this monitor doesn't have built in speakers, so you would have to use the headphones to hear any audio coming from your pc.

Keyboard

More of a basic keyboard but it is decent (especially for its price)

Headphones

A solid pair of head phones with a balanced sound signature. They should do well for music and games.

Additional thoughts

The only thing I would really consider "missing" is speakers and some sort of game controller. I especially recommend a game controller if you plan on playing either of the dark souls games. If you happen to have a wired xbox 360 controller you can just download some software and simply plug it into a USB port. Or if you have a wireless receiver you can use wireless controllers as well. If you need speakers and a controller (at this budget) let me know and I will tweak some things. Just so you know a wired controller costs a little over $30 a wired is around $35 but the wireless reciever you will need runs around $11.

Let me know if you have any questions!

I don't know about the Mac, but here's my experience on the PC: There are a few variants of the X360 controller. One has a custom rechargeable battery pack, along with a USB wire. This variant will just charge the controller, but won't make it available as a device on the PC. Another variant has a wireless receiver that plugs into a USB port, along with the Windows device drivers to make use of it as a wireless controller. The last is a wired controller with drivers for the PC.

u/pwndepot · 1 pointr/buildapc

I don't know if there is a difference between those two or not, but I did purchase the first one in late 2014 and it's still going strong. I use it both for my computer and for my 360 console. Works for both.

u/de_baser · 1 pointr/FIFA

Exactly. You must have the dongle thing to recieve the Xbox signal, otherwise a standard issue controller will do. They usually sell together, like here: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-360-Controller-Windows/dp/B004QRKWLA

u/Mortimer452 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I used this guide to set one up just a few weeks ago. The RetroPie Wiki also has a pretty good walk-through.

I advise having a USB gamepad or controller before starting. The EmulationStation software is challenging to navigate with a keyboard, it's really designed to be used with a controller. I use a USB Xbox360 wired controller and it's working great so far. You'll still want a keyboard hooked up for command-line stuff like running updates and configuring your wi-fi settings.

u/zakphi · 1 pointr/gaming

but that cable can still be removed, i want something like this but for the xbox one

u/LordDeathDark · 1 pointr/forhonor

tl;dr, but as far as I'm concerned, this is still the de facto PC controller. Plug-and-play ready for systems as far back as Win XP (Service Pack 3 required), and it's the most widely "accepted" controller by games, many of them even recognizing it specifically and giving input commands based on its buttons.

I've seen a number of people, such as Oroboro and TrueTalent, playing on PC and they're playing with controllers and getting their prompts in that "language", so I'd recommend trying that. Sucks that the Steam Controller doesn't work, but XB360 controller is solid.

Definitely get a controller!

1v1 is best if you want to practice pure ball-control, a mistake will mean a goal for the enemy 8/10 times, because you don't have a teammate to cover your ass. This mode is all about having control over both the ball and your car.

2v2 is in my opinion the most fun mode. It is very fast paced and you will have to balance offence and defense very well.

3v3 is all about team play, and it can be hard to score goals because there will usually be at least 1 player on defense. Learn about rotations!

4v4 is a mess and you should only play it when you are drunk and with 3 friends.

u/Mephiska · 1 pointr/macgaming

Don't buy a 3rd party controller. You don't save much money, but you do end up with a much higher likelihood of compatibility problems and lower quality of parts.

Either get the official wired controller or the wireless version for another $15. Both work great with the tattiebogle drivers.

There is one 3rd party device that works though. You can also grab a used official wireless controller from gamestop and use this generic wireless usb receiver on the mac, works perfect with the same drivers on Mavericks.

Actually I think you are misunderstanding where my frustration comes from. The Xbox 360 controller was actually marketed and sold as a console and also a legit PC controller with officially drivers https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Wired-Controller-Windows-Console/dp/B004QRKWLA I just assumed that since I had this controller , any game I purchase on Steam will be playable using it (this is coming from a console background where owning a Dual Shock 3 meant I could play any game that was on the PS3 included ported legacy PS1, PS2 games).

I guess the controller that would have better suited my needs is the Steam controller.

If you have $75 to spend though, the Razer Sabertooth is fantastic.

Although the regular controller for $30 is just fine.

Hey dude, I just did my build for around 550. It was originally supposed to be 500, but I found myself spending a little extra because great components were on sale.

First, I would HIGHLY recommend being open to buying things a few parts at a time while they have reasonable sales. Sites like Newegg have frequent sales on parts in all price ranges. I got a 60 dollar case for 30 dollars, which allowed me to put more money into my CPU. Hell, if a part you were going to buy is on sale you might be able to significantly scale back your budget :)

GET A FREAKING SSD. I decided it was time to buy a SSD after waiting all this time to make the upgrade, it is probably the most notable difference as I have never had such snappy performance in my life (and my previous PC wasn't exactly low end). Down the line, assuming your case is easy enough to work with it's easy to toss a cheap large capacity HDD in and use it as a permanent storage device.

I would highly recommend building a system that supports DDR4 memory. DDR4 isn't expensive these days and when you build with the LGA 1151 chipsets you have superb upgradability.

Xbox 360 controllers (wired only) are the PC standard game controller, they can be found for under 30 bucks and can be found very cheaply at used game stores. You might even already have one. No matter what anybody says, many games are best suited to a gamepad, particularly action games, platformers, fighting games and plenty of other genres. The ability to choose when you want to play a game with M+K or with a gamepad is one of the things that makes PC gaming so great!

I've noticed, after years of watching PC sales on mouses and keyboards, that you can often find very good sales on these that can save you a ton of money. Read reviews, as there are plenty of keyboards that box above their price range.

The better framerate is amazing though. DSFix has a hotkey to flip between 30 and 60, and 30 feels like a slideshow compared to 60. I honestly can't imagine playing at 30, not to mention the even lower framerate experienced in Blighttown.

>$60 controller

Less than half of that, but yeah. Controllers are great for a wide variety of PC games, so they're a good investment anyway. I don't imagine many people are buying one just to play DaS.

>having to get mods to make it playable at all

Installing DSFix is literally extracting files to a folder, really not a big deal

>having malcolm reynolds fucking up your characters.

That's DaS3, though..? I'm just talking about DaS1 here.

Anyway, there are tools available to backup your savegames and autokick cheaters. I haven't encountered a single cheater ingame anyway, so it's not like this is a common problem, at least not in DaS1.

The only thing really worth complaining about on PC is the weird collision issues, like sliding down ladders will occasionally drop you through the map, irregular surfaces become harder to walk on, that kind of thing. When this type of stuff comes up I need to flip into 30fps mode to get past it.

I don't know if I should cannibalize parts from this or sell off the entire thing.

you spent $25 on a knock off controller for your PC, when a real microsoft xbox360 controller which is officially supported by microsoft on windows only costs between $25-35?
(EDIT: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-360-Controller-Windows/dp/B004QRKWLA/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1407971501&sr=1-3&keywords=xbox+360+controller $4.14 more...)

i mean did like EVERY review on the front page giving 1 star and in all caps saying "DO NOT BUY THIS CONTROLLER!" didnt even give you the slightest bit of hint?

u/AdmiralCrab · 1 pointr/Surface

Wired Controllers usually connect to the computer through the usb slot.

Wireless Controllers usually connect through Bluetooth, but some like the wireless version of the Xbox 360 controller require a receiver to connect and work with computers.

Most controllers that are made for PC are plug and play, meaning once you've plugged it in, it's ready to use for controller friendly games.

You can find out whether the game has controller support by checking it's store page on Steam, it will show on the bottom right of the page.

If the game isn't set-up for controller use, you usually set up custom controls for the controller using a program like JoyToKey.

The Xbox 360 Wired Controller is what I use, but there are better alternatives if you have the cash to spare.

That's good to hear, I've been super curious with the steam controller for a while- I've just been hesitate cause it seems a little bizarre. If it works with Witcher super well then I think I'll love it, I might get one along with a 360 controller. Thanks again for your help, I would have went with a PS4 controller otherwise (which is 20 more dollars then this 360 I'm probably gonna pick up)

u/StradlatersFirstName · 1 pointr/BeamNG

The wired Xbox 360 controller sells for less than $30 and you'll never need to worry about batteries again. Also it's pretty much compatible with every game on Steam.

Less than the game on steam, honestly if you're going to play on the pc, you should own one. Dark souls isn't the first game to be better with a controller, and neither will any Souls sequel.

u/Donkeythebard · 0 pointsr/Steam_Link

my just xbox controllers do not work, but my xbox for windows (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004QRKWLA) works with the steam link.

wired or wireless does not matter in this case.

u/inclination64609 · 0 pointsr/pcgaming

I got this one. It was the cheapest one I could find without going into MadCatz territory.

u/muchcorrupted · 0 pointsr/springfieldMO

It's $25 but it's from Microsoft, meaning it will last much longer than that off brand crap. I know this isn't used, but it will suit your needs.

Use a controller. Sorry, that's the BEST option. I'll leave a link in case you break down and go that route. :)

This is what I added to make flying and riding speeder bikes tolerable.

...except that the #1 selling PC controller is the Xbox 360 Wired Controller.

THAT AIN'T FALCO 360

(Edit: I'm saying that the Steam Pad looks nothing like the Xbox 360 controller [except for the pattern and color of the face buttons], just to clarify)

Why does linus act like PC gamers can't game causally?

its really easy for any one interested:

  1. buy a PC for the cost of a current gen console
    using tools like;

PCpartpicker, logical Increments,/r/buildapc,/r/buildapcsales if you need help building consult; Carey Holzman,NZXT's guide or /r/buildapc

  2. pick your OS:

Either; Windows 7/8.1 or linux/Steam OS or for advanced users hackintosh with OSX or Windows 10 preview.

for a smooth console like UI use big picture mode in steam or Steam OS for Linux

  3. Pick for Favorite method of control:

The keyboard/mouse,Xbox one and Xbox 360 all have native support for advance user the PS4/PS3 controllers will need rebinding software.

  4. Find some causal games you enjoy

bonus Find some Roms and boot up an emulator to play all the classics' of your childhood

    Edit: words
u/nuclear_turkey · -1 pointsr/pcmasterrace

PC - $410

KB+M $10 - $30

controller - $30

windows 7 $40 (free if linux or steamOS)

TOTAL - $510

basically the same price as ps4p + 2 years of online

sony can probably manufacture an equivalent of this pc for $350-$400, i dont think they will be maing much profit off of the console itself, doesnt most of their profit come from PS+ and licensing cost for games anyways?

^(please bear in mind i threw this list together very quickly, probably quite easier to get amore powerful system for less.)

u/AGuyWithABrokenPC · -1 pointsr/pcgaming

how about using a wired xbox 360 controller?

they are great for car racing games, and you can use scripts that allow you to move the mouse pointer with the analogue sticks.
